I once was told that the people who are "newly rich" are the ones paying the larger amounts. Old money doesn't like to pay for services like this a good example would be the british royal family. You make minimum wage working for them and if you live on the grounds in the servants quarter, you make even less because they deduct the living expenses from your pay before you get it. A few years ago you could buy a Ferrari 250 GTO for around £7mln, today it's worth at least £20mln. The staff cost is absolutely negligible in the grand scheme of things.
The longer a butler works for a family they click with, ofc the salary will increase. If the wealthy family really like their butler and don't want to lose him/her, they may even shell out more and more money to keep their butler around for years to come. So it's not impossible if some butlers who are favorites of their employers may end up having salaries in the millions per year. Not everyone can be a butler or willing to be one, so it's like a good playing field for the middle to lower classes who are keen to change their fate. Just working as butler for 10-20+ years may give them more than enough money to retire before 50, or if they want to they can become self-employed afterwards. Maybe they'll be able to open their own shops or services after and work leisurely in their older age.
