Great video of finishing these nice saddlebags. I know my comment comes over two years later but I do a bit of restoration of steel tools and I think after getting that surface rust off a good coat of Johnson's Paste Wax gives it protection from flash rusting. I recently removed surface rust from a bench drill press and used paste wax and it has help up well as a finish for the bare steel under heavy use. Just apply it to the steel like you did that shoe polish to the leather and hand buff it with a cloth. Apply as needed.

I need to repair & restore the leather bags on my 1999 Harley Road King. I'm going to try this out before replacing them. Thanks!!

I realize this was 3 years ago but since you are pretty handy, I wonder what parkerizing those book ends would have looked like.

Nice work - especially the bonus at 9:20 - 10:44!
I have some *very* stiff and heavy leather saddle bags that I need to reshape. Seems that neatsfoot oil would be part of the process - thoughts?

This was excellent! I thought he was going to use a leather conditioner but they didn’t even need it.

G L Hello, I find that most of the boot/shoe polishes contain enough conditioner for most leather jobs.

+Jorge Vasquez Go for it. They are leather and you can’t really damage them. Something I should of mentioned in the video is if you have zippers like these bags did or even snaps you will want to add some powdered graphite to the zipper to keep them working good the same with snaps. Thanks for watching the video.
