I am presently having my '07 911 turbo being fixed for the "dreaded" P0021 engine light. The repair is being done in CA, by whom I wont say, but he said the repair would probably be around 20K. Does that seem out of line or about right? Thanks Spike G
I would never buy the 997.1 911 turbo, period. Only the 997.2 is worth looking at. Parts and labor are $$$ on these cars, but the most reliable version. This camshaft job is $8500 on the low end. A person could use the $8500 to get into a newer less problematic 911 and still have something newer.
I bet a lot of 997.1 turbos are driving around with a partially slipped cam and the owner doesnt know. Mine was fully spun on bank 1, no codes. I pinned the cams as a preventative measure, only to find out bank 1 was already spun. It's a big job for sure, but not impossible to DIY. Just takes patience and garage space. My turbo yas much better response at hugher RPM$ now. It's noticable from before. You just need the proper timing tools.
What's the cost of removing the motor, pinning these, and reinstalling? Just an average if you know. Have a small coolant leak, lines have been pinned but motor may need to come out to replace a hose, so might do this or send it to you to have it done. Thanks
