It's another year and another build-off! This year, we're ditching a pair of strings and making the neck longer. That's right, it's BASS time!
In the fifth video of the series, I am hollowing out the headstock and introducing the neck to the body. It's really starting to look like an actual instrument now, finally!

I am a guitar builder (and now teacher) from Ireland, but currently based in the South of England working with Crimson Guitars. I am a teacher and a luthier and I am currently loving my job and the direction my life is going. My guitars are built by hand, from the heart and with love in every shaving.

Thank You for being a part of this. - แนวปฏิบัติและการใช้ชีวิต
The crazy grain directions in the carve out of the head stock area turned out t be a nerve wracking ordeal for you I'm sure. It worked out for you thank goodness. Looking nice.
i MUSt have that baby spoke shave! that thing is sick i am so happy with its existence right now! that head stock seemed to not want to be tooled congrats for winning
I absolutely love the headstock ! I'm all about something unique and interesting especially in that area
A pleasure to watch!
It looks great, Sean. Fantastic design!
Sean, looks really good. It looks like the headstock gave you some fits in the beginning, but came out super nice
Some good problem solving on the fly with that headstock bevel.
OMG it's a bass! So cool. Myself, not ready for a headstock cutout. Maybe someday. I am really enjoying this build. Maybe even more than the LP build for the first GGBO. Not sure yet lol
Like the headstock design! And thank you for showing how to work your design concept with difficult woodgrain and what it takes to do it.
Hi Sean! Loving your build videos, as usual!! Hoping to one day make it out to Crimson to take a course with you!
I love the smell of sawdust in the morning. It smells like........ victory.
That's awesome, but is there any danger of weakening the structural integrity of the head by cutting out pieces? Base or a six string?
I'm sure if you were to get weird about it, it must weaken the structure a little bit, but there is still plenty of material to keep the headstock attached. It's not too far off a Parker style headstock, but also with the addition of the lower section. So, plenty strong and I have no worries at all about it
I think that the headstock looks great but I wouldn't take this bass out on the road. One prang on stage and it could break. More bass work of art than a practical player to my mind. Just my two pennorth.
