I love how you did this. The opening of the video is so clever and you used the absolute perfect song for the intro and outro. Much respect to Shadowgate and you.
Haha, thank you! I was hoping someone would be happy with the intro, it was a spur of the moment idea that I had morning of the review... took me way longer than I want to admit . Thanks for watching & the comment as always!
Love the intro, mate! That put a huge smile on my face, what a great touch. 😊 I agree with you on the soundtrack, I love just about everything - *except* - the "running out of torch" music. 🥴 But my favourite piece would have to be the one you hear with the the Cyclops, the water fountain, the Observatory and the room with the 2 braziers. As for the controls, I understand that to some they can appear "stiff" and "clunky", but with the limited controls on the NES gamepad, to me it makes sense. At first when I heard you mention those 2 words I started to feel the sweats and thought, "ooh, not looking to be a good score overall..." But then, *WHAM!* - 9.5 - the delight on my face couldn't have hit me faster. 😃😂 Fantastic re-review mate and couldn't agree more with your score. I will defend _Shadowgate_ to the death and I will fight anyone who rates it less than 9. 😉
Haha, I was hoping you'd see the re-review! Also, that's my favorite track in the game as well. Great atmosphere and definitely very reminiscent in spots/tunes in the Sword of Hope as well. Shadowgate for life! I actually might try the remake finally soon, been skirting around it for a while.
@@BitsandgloryHaha you're welcome! Now onto watching your playthrough. 👍 But yeah, if you get to do the _Shadowgate_ remake, I'm on board! I actually need to finish my own game sometime soon, I'm way behind... need a refresher course. 😆
Awesome review! Thinking on it again, I imagine if one grew up with this or other point and click adventures will definitely roll with this as a 9.0 or 9.5. If ya survived the King's Quest games, nothing can faze you. For those less invested in point and clicks or modern audiences, I'd imagine it's more of an 8.0 or even a 7.0.
Thanks for the comment & for watching! Yeah, I can totally see people not really enjoying this type of game/genre. Definitely not expecting the majority to give it a 9.5, but it's so special to me. Definitely one of my more biased review scores I suppose haha. King's Quest exposure is probably why I enjoyed Shadowgate so much! One of my earlier gaming memories was playing King's Quest IV with my Grandma (in this same basement). Good times.
@@Bitsandglory Fair! I am stoked you enjoy it so much and really appreciate you sharing that joy with us here on the interwebz. I tended to enjoy the point and clicks at a distance, watching my friend play, so developed a love hate with it. Enjoyed playing with one friend as it was like a joint brain puzzle. Hated the other because he would just PLAY AND PLAY AND PLAY while im sitting there like "Dude, let's bust out Heroquest or something." XD Picked up the Shadowgate remake. Its pretty damn fun!
@@fedupN I still need to get to that (the remake)! The backlog is very real and very long at this point, haha. But from what I've seen, it looks like I'll enjoy it!
That's fair, the Controls are pretty crappy and I can't really defend them. I'm big on two things usually: 1) Experimentation and/or Genre-Crossing & 2) Atmosphere - Shadowgate checks both of those for me. On my Top 10 NES list I threw together two months ago I had it at #8, but I think it moved up for me after playing it more and covering it again. Thanks for being a Member!

Geez this kinda game really takes me back
Thanks for the re-review!🎉
Seems to have that effect on a lot of people! They did something right, haha.
Thanks for watching & the comment!
Great review & great game!
Agreed and thanks for watching!
Tarkus is also the name of an absolute banger by Emerson Lake and Palmer, which I'm pretty sure most of those other things are named after.
#TheMoreYouKnow... the Tarkus lore grows deeper! Haha
5:43 Clips of people trapped in Jimmy's dungeon continue to leak online
lmao, he must be stopped!

I like the game, but I wouldn’t give it a 9.5
Id prby go with 7.5, maybe 8. Controls as you mention bring it down for me.
