The whole "game manager" title is a complete misnomer. I would rather have a QB throwing for less yards as and being able to make plays when needed rather than a QB that puts up alot of stats but doesnt know when to turn it on and off.

When you have the lead and your defense is playing well you have to know how to manage that. Why help the other team get back in the game with risky throws just to pad stats.

Brady was basically the ultimate game manager. Never flashy, just knew what to do when to do it and did it perfectly. Now Mahomes is learning to play smart like that...plus he still has his insane arm and houdini escapability when he needs it. The past 2 years might have been the Chiefs' weakest years compared to what could come. Just need a couple better receivers and to keep the defense together. Craziness

The issue I have with the dame manager title is as follows. For me game manager tag has not been associated with just managing the game. It has been more so associated with managing not to lose the game because your ability is not going to win the game. The difference being that if a quarterback has the ability to lead you down the field he is both a game manager and a play maker. Whereas just the game manager you hope doesn't F things up while he tries to manage the game as he will not be able to get you back in it.
People need to start saying ‘conservative and not elite’ instead of game manager. lol.
Will Purdy reset the market with his QB deal? No and that’s when everyone will say Cam is right. Purdy is a smart mid level QB with a lot of talent around him.
That’s all it is. He’s an average to above average QB on an elite roster with elite talent, and what makes him good like Jimmy G, Alex Smith, etc, is that he is very coachable and will be limited on turnovers. Is he going to go off script and win a game with his arm? No. Is he going to be looked at as an elite prospect and lead the league in yards? No. lol. Unless Deebo and Auyik are getting insane yards after the catch and padding Purdy’s stats with fink and dunks on crossing routes.

I haven't watched enough 49er games to say one way or the other, but Mahomes is definitely more of a game manager this year, especially since the Raiders game. They got to the SB leaning on the defense and not turning the ball over like they had been most of the season. Mahomes is just doing what is required of him. That said, he can turn it up a notch and become the dynamic player we're used to whenever he wants. They started out the Ravens game that way then took the foot off the gas and went conservative when they were up by 10.

It's circumstances, obviously Mahomes can win games by himself if the moment calls for it.

It has a negative connotation. I remember it used to be pocket passer and mobile Qb. But now if you don’t have wheels they think you are lesser than the other QBs.
A qb job consist of managing a offensive , via, coach calling plays, qb observing the defense, with the possibility of calling a audible, at the same time watching the play clock , knowing the strengths and weaknesses of the offense and defense , and then distributing the ball to the best possible venue in which is determined by who’s is open .

The game is littered with Big Stat QBs who never piloted a team to a championship...and winning championships, not piling up big stats, is what athletes and teams are paid to do. This is a result of making the quarterback position more than what it is. Which is a game manager at its core. What is the quarterback doing on the field? Distributing the ball to the skill positions, calling plays, managing the time of possession etc. sounds a lot like a manager. That’s all it is. Tom Brady has shown that above average athleticism is not needed at the quarterback position. Having a big arm, being able to scramble for 50+ yards is a nice addition but can you deliver the ball accurately and on time to your players? That’s the main thing.

Exactly. The Cheifs are more like the 2019 49ers with a great defense where Mahomes makes the smart necessary throws and has a less explosive offense. The 49ers defense is not what it is in 2019 but their offense is highly explosive and can put up points a lot like the 2019 Cheifs where Purdy likes to layer throws 20+ yards. These are actually reflective in the statistics on how they have switched places.

@@Thebob6 True but I think the Cheifs defense has been underrated due to the focus being on Mahomes when it has allowed the 2nd fewest points all season without giving up a single game of over 30 points all season. The 49ers defense while good has been getting hyped up more due to their reputation when they do have more notable weaknesses this time around. I agree and expect a very close game.
A message stands out the most depending how you deliver it. Cam delivered a message with anger and resentment. Even though a game manger is basically a Qb with a high IQ. That use to be the biggest complaint to give for a QB , by talking about their QB IQ level. The media will never blame Kyle Shannhan for that Super Bowl lost, he took the football out Jimmy G hands in the NFC Championship Game ran the football for 285yrds with Raheem Mostert had 220yrds that day but got away from that philosophy late in the Super Bowl in 4th quarter. Now that he got Brock Purdy, and Christian McCaffrey is he going to run the football with conviction against the Kansas City Chiefs defense to keep Patrick Mahomes on the sideline that's the whole purpose of running the football. If Kyle Shannhan would've done that in first Super Bowl, and score one more time they win the game after having a 10 point lead late in tge 4th quarter.
