"What does blind look like?"
When Anastasia Tas Pagonis was 14, she lost her vision. Now 17, the Team USA para-swimmer has become a role model and is ready to show her stuff at the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games!

Radar is more than just her "eyes" dog. He is her "rock" and he was a big factor in turning her life around. He gave her back her confidence and courage. They're very rarely ever apart from each other.

That's really amazing you found something for you. My mom's ex boyfriend was blind and he was very bitter at times. I think people don't think you're blind because your eyes do look at what your focusing on. People that have been blind all their lives mostly, their eyes don't do that that I've seen. They're off to the side, not straight. I think that's why. You're a beautiful soul and definitely an inspiration. Stay you!
Most definitely! There are two types of people in the world: Those who allow tough situations to completely break them and those who don't let those situations bring them down. We all have obstacles to overcome. It's about perspective.

She's amazing. I think she's taking the statement of "you dont look blind" in the wrong way though. I can see people being confused because in her eyes she doesn't look like she doesn't know where to look. Her eyes don't wander. I think that if she simply explained that she's not 100% blind but visuslly impaired to the point that she has "lost most of her useful eyesight" like she said in the video, people would understand better.
Maybe I'm wrong, but it seems that she doesn't have 100% pitch black eyesight, which is what everyone thinks of when we hear that someone is blind.
She has focused eyes because she has had vision for 14 years. You can be completely blind and still focus your eyes to sound if you have had your vision growing up.

I've known many blind people in my life. The thing is, I've never seen any blind person able to give eye contact like as if they were totally not visually impaired. It's even harder for them to look at the camera for photos/videos, yet she has no problem doing that. I'm astonished
Check out Molly Burke on youtube. She is blind and also can do this. She has a video about it.
Blindness has a lot of level;
Judging by how she wasn’t blind until 11, that is a major advantage, she probably have the basic idea on how things looked like and how to react to them.
I have a friend that slowly losing her eyesight and she can “technically” still see things, but she can only see them in shadows and shapes, never a clear image. She can still “look at the direction of the camera”, but she can’t see the camera.
It is VERY DIFFERENT from short sightedness (me), which can be fixed by wearing glasses/surgery, her sight problem relates more to her brain, which glasses and/or surgery can’t fix.
I worked one-on-one with a blind student for two years and she was able to often give me great eye contact, despite having no usable vision. As others have stated, it depends on many factors. In the case of the student I worked with, this athlete, and Molly Burke, all lost their vision as teens, so they had developed that skill previously. That’s how they know about eye contact, hair, clothes, makeup, etc. Also, there are many ways blind people modify their environment to be able to do things
As a blind person myself, it’s actually a very small percentage of the blind population that have zero vision, even though that is what most sighted people think of when they hear the word blind. It is actually much more common to be able to focus and give eye contact than not when blind. I’m happy she’s making this video so she can educate others on it and break stereotypes.
