Desert Center.... wow.. what a place.. 1 step away from hell. I was a corrections officer at Desert Center facility for nearly 12yrs.... was actually a great place to raise all our 6 kids though. The school there was K-12 and the education and socializing (community) was fantastic. My children weren't tainted by inner city/ concrete jungle life. Thank you for the videos. We now live in Oregon and it's nice to see current videos of the Desert. Originally, we are from Joshua Tree/ Yucca Valley and 29 Palms.

Hey Adam, The otter you were wondering about at Blair Station, is actually a seal. His name is Harbie the Seal, and he was the mascot for Harbor gas stations in Orange County. I remember seeing him, when I was a kid back in the 60s.
Some buildings are built elevated, because they don't leave enough open area to adsorb the runoff from rain. The new McDonald's in downtown Ocala was built this way. Underneath, is a drain field to handle the runoff, instead of it spilling onto the highway. It is about twice the size of the original McDonald's building on the site.
@@marksheridan5155 They put one of those prefab Checker's drive troughs in a nearby town. It closed within a month, because the sewer kept backing up. It was empty for years, until something was done to eliminate the problem. They likely installed a private lift station.

I love these kind of videos. I can see things through your lens that I will never be able to go and see or do. So thank you for that. I worry when you go in the abandoned houses, properties, and buildings. You don't know who can be squatting in those places. Always be aware of your surroundings. I loathe math and haven’t taken classes in years but that formula haunts me which is why I remember it 😂
That shed is referred to as a Quonset hut and the only way I know about that was Gomer Pyle USMC the old show. The Quonset is a faster way to put up a building and was popular at that time, I haven’t heard of anymore huts being after the 1960’s. Have a good day Adam and stay safe 😊

I was there when they filmed Airwolf (lived at the MWD pumping plant near by) the train inside may be from the movie "Tough Guys" it was filmed nearby on Red Cloud Road. You found a missing movie prop from the 1980's I saw the train (prop) in the desert right after filming then it disappeared. Happy to see it still exists.

You should look up the history of Desert Center and Stephen Ragsdale. He bought the desert in 1921. He built that cafe and mechanic shop soon after. He built those cabins for the people passing by along with the pool. You'll have more of an appreciation next time you pass by. Maybe, you will go see the former Desert Centers owner's summer cabin and his desert sanctuary next time. He used to run the mechanics shop until his son took it over.
The animal on top of the building is "Harbie" the seal. He was a mascott for Harbor Fuel Gas Stations in the 50's-60's that were prominent in California. GREAT SITE Thx!

It's sad how people are trashing places like this. We found an abandoned camp ground north of Globe, and it was the same way. People stop trashing everything. It would be nice to meet you, Adam. I'm sure you already have plans.
If you enjoyed the Whaley House in San Diego, and wanna see something similar in Phoenix check out Rosson House, other cool historic buildings you could tour are the Wrigley Mansion, and Tovrea Castle. Also Taliesin West, Frank Lloyd Wright's house in Scottsdale.
Good to know. I thought Phoenix killed most of their history. Really don't like it there and it is the closest city to me. Will look for the last remains of history if I ever have to visit again. Meaning if any good concerts come to town. 😎
We used to live right down the street from, Taliesin West. And had a company party at the Wrigley Mansion. Both beautiful in their own right!!! You recommended some good spots!!!!

It's hot and dry out here in the AZ desert. We have several lakes and beautiful places like Sedona. I have a channel and have videos on places like this, mining towns in AZ, and some California places as well if you're interested.

That section of the freeway with the Dinos and Windmills is always so windy going through there. I live part-time in Palm Springs, well Rancho Mirage, and live in Temecula. I go to Palm Springs a lot because my father lives there and working on opening a Pitfire ( offset smokers) BBQ restaurant there. Have a safe trip.

Desert center was once a busy place. Started going off early 90's. Hamburger stand, ice cream stand, gas station fully operational. The dinner was open 24. hours the old man had trains and military equipment that he dug up out of the ground ..
I feel like I just got back from exploring some deserted buildings in the desert. A lot of cool stuff just out there abandoned and forgotten. Great vlog! I like your new techniques!

Speaking of torrential downpours in the desert! I’ve driven through open desert before when monsoon rains were dumping and hundreds or even thousands of frogs came out of nowhere!! I don’t know if they were coming out of the ground or falling from the sky but they covered the road! I felt horrible because I couldn’t avoid them on the road but some were huge!! I live in Californias high desert in the Owens valley and old abandoned buildings survive forever with the dry weather unlike back east where the wet weather takes buildings down in short order!
I enjoy watching yours videos, seeing so many towns from the past.. it is sad that people today feel they can vandalize these properties., why can’t they just leave them alone.
Very nice trip Adam and I loved the fact that you did as you always do you got of the beaten path and show some things that I would have never seen if it wasn’t for you and I found it very interesting but what is even more fascinating is knowing that a lot of the abandoned places you showed were at one point thriving with business and now they’re just an empty shell and in a way it hurt to think of what once was and to be honest with you I’ll never understand why so many places have to go by the wayside and are left untouched for years when half the time these places are sitting on prime property I’ll never understand now with that peace ☮️ love ❤️ and happiness to you Adam and I’ll see you on the next awesome Adam the daily woo adventure peace ☮️ out ✌️
Cool vid !a side note,the green restaurant at about 34 min is a former Stuckeys travel stop.I recognized the shape as they were all exactly the same. Stuckey's was an early chain of travel stops that predates our Bucees,QT's etc... They were everywhere when I was a kid in the 1960's
Interesting bookstore. No worries , you won't see anything too unpleasant. Also, Slab City is an RV community btw. Out west, you can see far out and it stays pretty warm during the day.
Adam - If you are in downtown Phoenix, lots of good 1960s Psycho filming locations. Also, I recommend cartel coffee for a piping hot caffeinated beverage
Long, straight, enmpty roads in a very windy desert...so fascinating. Must be eerie at night (even when there are stars). You mentioned Airwolf! I watched it and it captivated my attention when it first came out. That scene with Stringfellow Hawk (Jan Michael Vincent's character's name) where he was playing a cello, alone, in the mountains beside a lake with a hawk (namesake? or was it an eagle?) soaring by... artistically, it spoke of solitary searching. Right, that area is prone to flash flooding. I don't think it has anything to do with obscuring dinos.
Flooding was my guess...Also so they can be seen from the opposite of the freeway that crosses in front of it.

The Quonset hut comes from Quonset Point Rhode Island in North Kingston the former home of the Seabees the Navy construction corps.

I ate at the dinner in Desert Center in 1988. I remember the staff being very nice and the food wasn’t bad.
We just drove through this area! As desolate and dry it is, I love visiting. Sad to see pieces of it dying out everytime we go through.

Very nice trip Adam and I loved the fact that you did as you always do you got of the beaten path and show some things that I would have never seen if it wasn’t for you and I found it very interesting but what is even more fascinating is knowing that a lot of the abandoned places you showed were at one point thriving with business and now they’re just an empty shell and in a way it hurt to think of what once was and to be honest with you I’ll never understand why so many places have to go by the wayside and are left untouched for years when half the time these places are sitting on prime property I’ll never understand now with that peace ☮️ love ❤️ and happiness to you Adam and I’ll see you on the next awesome Adam the daily woo adventure peace ☮️ out ✌️

Cool vid !a side note,the green restaurant at about 34 min is a former Stuckeys travel stop.I recognized the shape as they were all exactly the same.
Stuckey's was an early chain of travel stops that predates our Bucees,QT's etc...
They were everywhere when I was a kid in the 1960's
That was the squeakiest train I’ve heard in a long time. I enjoyed the long shot of that brake dragging iron horse. I really like the desert vlogs.

Wow! You were in my neighborhood! I live in Desert Edge. One time I was low on gas, and had to pay the high price at the Golden Lantern.
Interesting bookstore. No worries , you won't see anything too unpleasant. Also, Slab City is an RV community btw. Out west, you can see far out and it stays pretty warm during the day.

Long, straight, enmpty roads in a very windy desert...so fascinating. Must be eerie at night (even when there are stars).
You mentioned Airwolf! I watched it and it captivated my attention when it first came out. That scene with Stringfellow Hawk (Jan Michael Vincent's character's name) where he was playing a cello, alone, in the mountains beside a lake with a hawk (namesake? or was it an eagle?) soaring by... artistically, it spoke of solitary searching. A moment passed.

those sheds are quonset huts and so sturdy they are still used today, a ww2 relic , great video adam thanks

Adam and Willie Nelson, On the road again... I learned a little bit about Quartzsite, AZ after the area was featured in the film "Nomadland" with Frances McDormand. I think the birthday suit guy from the bookstore sang a little song in the movie too
