I have a 2014 Silverado 5.3 with 93,000 miles. I get 24.2 AVERAGE MPG. Hauling two quad's I average 18.7 MPG. I off road it very often and drive it hard. I have not had one issue, just 3 recalls. It rocks!! What a piece with all of the problems you have had...

Proud owner of a 2016 Ram Bighorn edition. This by far is the best Truck i've owned, and i've owned several i'm 54 yrs young. Its towing power and reliability is unmatched, in the half ton class. I pull a 28 ft, jayco camper. The 5.7 hemi never miises a beat, and the 5.7 sounds like its pissed off when i'm in the throttle. Very Nice truck!

Keyword “interior”, I don’t think people buy trucks so they can be sitting like a little princess with all their gadgets and pointless buttons. People want a truck that’s gonna last 200k+ miles with the least maintenance, and the only way your gonna get that is with a Toyota Tundra or maybe a 5.3 Chevy. Everything else on the half ton market starts shitting out at 100k, electronically and mechanically

Chad Weinberger 200k miles on a 1500 with no substantial fixes? Everybody I know who drives a 1500 has had nothing but problems, and the people I know who drive new Ram’s only have them because they got an insane deal on them at the dealership(because they are all steamy piles of dogshit compared to almost another other half ton). The only actually reliable ram truck’s I’ve seen are the 3/4 and one tons with Cummins’. But that’s just my biased opinion. At the end of the day, 200k miles on a truck with no major fixes is pretty damn good regardless of the brand

I just jumped shipped from a 2003 GMC Sierra. Had it since 2005. Was a2003. Been an alright truck but some elec issues at times. Rougher ride but got me around. Now I went to a Ram Longhorn. Obviously no comparison. Tried all three. Ford,GM and then Ram. Without a doubt Ram was the truck. Knew friends with Ram and had really good success. 2010 and up. Truly it wasn’t that hard of a decision. Up to 2 grand more for the upper end models from Ford and GM but worth every penny. If you like floating on air when driving on the highway it’s the way to go. I drove in 85 kilometre winds and it handled so great and blew me away. In winter.

This is my first Ram and I'm loving it so far. And the shift knob everybody seems to hate, I love. It's a Truck for hauling, hunting, fishing, it's a limo for weddings, and everything in between. I bought a new 2004 Ram 1500 Laramie that I kept for 11 years. Loved that truck. I sold it to a co-worker in 2015 for $13,000.00 after buying a 2015 Challenger SRT 6 speed. Kept my Challenger for 2 years then started to miss my truck especially when I would see it at work on occasions. In 2017 I traded my Challenger in for a new Ram Laramie 1500 white with two tone interior. It's been nice having my truck back and I get lots of compliments on how sharpe it is. I too would like to trade in one more time but like you I'm not sold on that front end. It doesn't have that aggressive looking front end like the previous generation Ram. But I am leaning on trading if not this year differently next year. Ram is the only truck I will buy.

  • @harrylime5147
    @harrylime5147 5 ปีที่แล้ว +11

I think they’re only giving you 6000 or $4000 for your truck on trade at the Dodge dealer, because, they generally discount their trucks by almost 15% without a trade. They usually get a lot of the discount $ right back if you finance through the finance company they want you to go through.
I had three Dodge dealers competing for my business. I had a 42,000 miles 2008 GMC Canyon 4 x 4. Retail value was $17,500
I was actually driving on my way to buy a new tradesman/2017 six cylinder I had picked out.
Cash difference out the door, $24,000.
I got a call from another dealer that I only called, I never visited the show room. I told him I’m on my way to buy a truck at this other dealer. He said, the standard line, give me a shot at you I will save you thousands more
I was in a hurry to get this done on a Saturday but I stopped at this other dealer anyway which was out of my way by about 10 miles.
He brought out a gorgeous burgundy big horn hemi with heated steering wheel and seats, sprayed in bedliner, running boards, chrome bumpers and wheels, trailer package, list on the truck was $49,400 on the sticker.
I told that dealer that I’m on my way to another dealer right now if you don’t give me the deal you said you would over the phone, I’m not gonna waste time here, I’m not going to allow you to double-team me with you and the sales manager, pull the trigger and tell me the deal right now or I’m on my way to the other dealer.
He reduced his truck from 49,400, to $39,000 even, and, then he gave me $17,200 for my truck on trade, which was only $200 lower than the Kelley blue book average retail. Trading in actually saved me over &1200. Tax because, I didn’t have to pay sales tax on &17,200 of the total price. Only on the cash difference.I had tried for three months to sell my truck myself , Lots of calls, no reasonable offers.
To get that deal, they required that I finance a portion through Chrysler financing., Which saved me an additional $500.
So I wrote them a check, and financed $10,000, which I paid off 2 weeks later, when the paperwork finally arrived in the mail..
So after all the taxes were done, and I told them I’m not paying for prep, freight and set up, Scotchgard on the seats dealer add-ons ect... and especially I am not buying an extended warranty. The guy that does the final paperwork in the back room office kept pressing that. Pressing, pressing to get me to buy the extended warranty. I told him I would not have bought the truck if I thought it would break down , and if he didn’t stop pressuring me to buy the xtra warranty, I’m leaving right now, and I stood up.I had already been at the dealer for three hours.
My total out the door was $22,400 and my 2008 GMC Canyon trade-in, for a brand new, was not a demo, four-door ram Big Horn. I took it straight home and spent five days rust proofing it with fluid film. I pulled the headlights out, the tail lights out, took off all the wheels and covered the disks with plastic bags, i. Removed the fender plastic wheel well liners, and the dealer added on running boards so that I could be sure to get fluid film between the floorboard brackets and the frame.I took the spare tire down, And hand coated the rim which is steel with fluid film.I had bought rustproofing tools for getting fluid film up the door posts & the windshield posts all the way to the roof. Because those rams I see running around here in western Pennsylvania we throw salt on The roads in the winter, those ram trucks rust out faster than any other brand I have seen. No part of the truck is spared from the salt. The rocker panels, the fender wells, The doors, the tailgate, the hood, even the bumpers..
I am writing this now that I have had my truck for 2 winters, 18 months. I climbed under my truck looking for any corrosion. None. I was under the truck before this past winter to do a reapplication of fluid film and to find areas I may have missed when I first got the truck. Nothing no rust.Everything was still shiny wet looking.
When I first brought my 2008 GMC Canyon home, and I was doing the first oil change at 1500 miles, I saw almost complete rust coverage on the insides of both chrome bumpers on that truck six weeks after I brought it home. I took it straight back to the dealer, and they said, there’s nothing we can do until it rusts a hole in the bumper. I read the owners manual for my GMC cover to cover, and in the manual, there was a statement that if I rustproof the vehicle, I void the warranty. I thought that must be a good sign that General Motors has a lot of confidence in their anti-corrosion coatings so I didn’t worry about it. was I wrong. I actually got rid of that truck with very low miles on it because I was told by the guy who does my annual state inspections that the frame where are the rear bumper attaches is weak from corrosion. Entire undercarriage of that truck you could scrape pounds of scale rust off of. I lost the brakes two times from rust, and fuel lines. The fuel line corrosion problem cost me $1100, Because it happened above the fuel tank and affected the fuel pump which had to be replaced also. It happened on a trip so the vehicle had to be towed to a garage. While the gas tank was down on the ground, the mechanic showed me, he looked up under that GMC and said this is a crime what the salt is doing to this vehicle. That’s why I got rid of that truck, and that’s why I spent five days undercoating my new ram.
The Dodge dealers are the ones that were the most willing to negotiate, and give the most generous trade-in value. I did stop at GMC and I didn’t really like the new trucks, and I couldn’t find anything out about them because they had two different women salesman. They didn’t know anything. They didn’t know if the truck had a positraction rear end when not in four-wheel-drive, they didn’t know if the ABS or the traction control could be turned off manually, they couldn’t even get the hood open so I could see how hard it might be to change the oil, or spark plugs..And they couldn’t give me a trade-in value of my truck towards a new one Because the manager had gone home for the evening.I never went back, and I bought the ram the next day at the Dodge dealer

As a truck salesperson...there is some truth to getting more for your trade when trading up to same make (Ram-for-Ram) vs Ram-for-Ford. The Ram dealer would prefer your 1-owner truck with all service records. It provides evidence for any pre-owned Ram prospect they are getting a decent truck.

It doesn’t necessarily matter if you go to a dealer that sells your current brand vehicle new or not. Sometimes that’s a bad thing because the same lot is selling new versions with all kinds of incentives. It’s really just the difference between dealers and not what brand is on the sign. You can really make a lot of points back and forth but at the end of the day it mostly doesn’t matter.

I traded an 11 ram crew cab in beginning of 16 for my 15 gmc 1500. and I got 19500 then with 33k. but it was st model with only the 4.7 . I got it used in 13 with 6500 miles. for 20500. it was one of those I had to trade it in while I basically didn't lose money on it.

I traded my 2014 F150 SLT 5.0 gas, crew cab with about 78,000 miles at my local Ram dealer and got $18,500 towards my new 2018 RAM 2500 Tradesman 8 foot bed, 6.4 HEMI gas crew cab. Having said that, my local Ford dealer would only give me $15,500 towards a 2018 250 SLT with 6.2 gas. So it depends what and where. I have been a Ford truck guy most of my life, but I am impressed with this 2500. The towing is the biggest benefit over the Ford F250. I did not need a diesel since I am not on the road that much. I think diesels in town kind of suck, They are made for the over the road. I think the difference is the RAM dealer does fleet sales whereas the Ford dealer does not. Now these are local dealers in my hometown. Many variables to this scenario for sure.

While i like the older GMs, i dont know how to feel about the new ones. As long as it has a v8 (or a small turbodiesel), and the price is right, i feel that both the ford and the ram would be good trucks even though rams 8-speed is a more proven transmission.
When at some point i can afford it, id trade my ‘10 dakota (3.7l v6, 4-speed auto) for (most likely) a ram ecodiesel or a ford (mini) powerstroke cause ive always wanted a diesel truck, but dont need a 3/4 or 1 ton. That said, the dakotas a phenomenal little-ish truck, just a tad thirsty :).
