When you enter a Scandinavian home, you are met by a chaos of shoes in the hallway.. We always take off our shoes before entering the home! 😂Hygge is making your home warm and cozy, especially in the wintertime! In the summer - we want to be outside, enjoying the "friluftsliv". 💕 We grow up with hygge, it can be memories of your mother lighting the candles at night, makin hot cocoa when the snowstorm is howling outside. We feel safe and embraced inside. We do white to let the early spring light dance on the floor and the ceiling, as we go months of the year without much daylight.
I’ve tried many times to get myself and my family to take off shoes when we enter. I love the idea however it is such a tough transition unless of course I’ve taken my dogs for a walk in the muddy woods.
@@mustlovedogs4005 I have trained my dogs to understand - "go to the bathroom". They sit and wait outside of the shower, for me to open it! 😂I do have a small cordless vacuumcleaner as well, to remove sand. No one enters beyond the hallway with shoes on their feet.
One of the best videos. I find myself drawn to Scandinavian design, mixing new & old, the imperfections, and natural textures and light. Thanks for detailing this style and the story it tells in your home.
Just great! The real life, the Hygge life. So beautiful and relaxed and classy. Thank you, dear Valentina. Just one complaint, can you give us this videos every day? Twice a day? Just love you, your family, your style, your passion. THANK YOU!
Thank you so much for this! Our children have all reached school age, we've just extended our house to give them all their own rooms, and I've been struggling with how to style my home for this new stage of our lives. The idea of how I want to live my life in the space and "finding beautiful in the practical, and using beautiful practical pieces to decorate with really spoke to me. I love collecting items especially when we travel, but also hate clutter. These Scandinavian videos have completely changed the way I am going to decorate and buy moments from our travels.
What a magical and entrancing video. Understand the light. We lived in a cottage with tiny windows and I spent so many hours feeling low, but now we have light all day and the joy it brings is amazing.
I was so victorian in my home decor.... after subscribing to your channel for the last 2 years, you have totally made me fall in love with scandi design and I've been slovvly re-decorating.. I'm loving the black and white... sprray painting has kept me busy during covid restrictions. I was a busy beaver!!!!!
As an American living in Sweden I have grown to really LOVE Scandinavian design and style! Yes, I have lots of white and light grey walls! Just love your channel and all of your design ideas! Thank you for another great video!
I can appreciate the hygge and wabi-sabi concepts paired with diffused cloudy, romantic days on tropical coast vibes. I also pairing vintage, natural and DIY handmade decor.
I heard the quote that in the winter the fireplace replaces the sun. It resonates so much with me. I feel a bit of heaven is touching me when the sun comes through the window.
I should have been born in Scandinavia because I feel so at peace with that style. With regard to infusing life into your home, I feel like we miss that so often in the US. Seems we struggle with life filled but not messy. I think seeing prefect homes and rooms on social media sometimes contributes to our inability to find a happy medium.
I 💯 agree. Real life isn’t perfect and trying to be perfect at home can really rob people of their joy in their homes, I hope we can be a beacon of the perfectly imperfect!
Honey, if you talked about scandi design every single day, I'll be here. if you make this your focus, you could be the American-scandi expert, and become real famous.
I hope you don't get tired of hearing, "I love this video!" Because once again... I love the video! The pictures you chose are gorgeous and your Secrets are great. This thought came to me while watching you today... The closer we are to nature and the more we reflect it, the more beautiful we are. And, the reverse is also true. A 'perfect' environment is artificial, not congruent with the human spirit, and doesn't reflect us well. A couple things I try to keep in mind, when choosing decor (and clothing) are: 1) How do I FEEL in it? 2) How do I LOOK in it? And, adding a TWIST is key for me in all aspects of life. Thank you, Valentina!
I live with 300+ sunny days/yr which definitely keeps my mood up. I do appreciate the more yellow light from indoor lighting to contrast the bright blue. Great video- I love Copenhagen!
This was wonderful! 🌿Thanks for making a Scandinavian playlist too! It’s a huge inspiration for my home. Not only do I enjoy everything you have to share but your positivity and personality make me smile! Congratulations on 100k 🎉
Our family has also been expats in Europe. Through that experience I have come to love a home that has character and history. My favorite styles are French, British Colonial, and Scandinavian. Love your content. 😎
I just love to hear you talk about scandinavian design (and design in general)! You really have such an interesting and inspiring view on the mix of different interior styles since you lived in different countries. Perhaps since I have lived all my life in Scandinavia I don´t really understand the uniqe way we design our homes, but after watching several of your videos on this topic I´m starting to really appreciate it! Also thank you for all the beautiful photos in the video from Scandinavia, Denmark, Sweden and also Gothenburg where I live! I have followed Alvhem Mäkleri several years now, where some of the photos where from, and they really show the most beautiful views and appartments from my hometown! Hugs from Sweden
I´m half Danish, half Greek. You totally "got" the Scandinavian way of life. When you said "they bring in stones and sticks" I felt spied on 😂 and, like you said, I had never even thought about it!! I´m going to check out your vids about Spain to see your take on the Southern European lifestyle (my other half!)
I love the mix- the ‘tension ‘ between the old / historic/traditional and the new/ contemporary / modern. The blend adds interest and is so personal to the individual. Here’s to cosy -Hygge- And to light, clear bright spaces!
I have been following your channel for a while now and in the last few months just have grown to love your passion for design, colour and how interior design interplays with our lives. I am just about to start the journey of choosing a palette of colour for my tiny home post divorce and feel much more confident to start this journey.
I'm Swedish living in Australia and the points you raised can be seen in my house here: Big windows White walls Wooden floors Indoor plants Modern furniture but with old pieces too Mysigt (Swedish cosy) with lots of candles everywhere Love my house!
omg this! I am not directly Scandinavian but it's definitely in my blood because my house looks like it belongs in Sweden or Denmark haha. I actually look quite Scandinavian too. so it might literally be in my blood hahaha :)
I feel you. When we came to Australia (from Philippines) it was winter. Spring made me realise how much I missed that warm sun rays when it touched my skin
Can you do an in depth video on how to add old to new? I love the interest that brings to a room but I struggle finding the "old" things that would add so much character. As always, love watching all of your videos!
My home is extremely Scandinavian inspired but I actually wasn't aware of all of these philosophies - and yet I incorporate basically all of them. I suppose it makes sense why I've always been so attracted to Scandinavian design.
Bonjour Valentina, I love how enthusiasm you have and share the scandi. design /way of life, etc. It is fun and refreshing and interesting. Thank you for sharing !! Happy Easter / Happy Spring !
Your Scandinavian and japandi videos you made totally inspired me. I am re designing my living space. As soon as the sofa comes in, I should be finished. I want to share it with you. Thx for your inspiration!
I adore this so much. I have been seeking a minimalist lifestyle, but your channel has been such an incredible inspiration in elevating our home and creating "those special moments", greenery from outside, *that feeling* that I love! And it spills into our guests when they visit. And that's a bonus I never even considered. This Scandinavian style can be so chic, but totally inviting and warm. Love it. 😍💕❤
Great video. I love a moody room so much but I also love a crisp, white room with beautiful moldings and historical. Jenny Mustard just did a video about life lessons being Swedish. She was saying that ever since you are born in Sweden it’s engrained in you for balance. She said it’s called lagom. I think that’s why the stylist would drop the shoe or mess up the pillows ...balance not too perfect because life can’t be-there is a balance between beauty and daily life happening. When i actually think about it-that’s a beautiful way to live, in my opinion. It’s so eye-opening to me, not being raised this way, in America. You should watch her video it’s lovely.
As a scandinavian I just loved listening to this. Haha the whole light thing is so true, I feel like my bf who isnt scandinavian thinks im crazy for caring so much about windows. Its the first thing that I look at, and if the windows are small or just very boring it just ruins the entire space for me. Never thought about it being related to many months of darkness, but it probably is why haha..
Just finding this. Go deep! I love how you connected deeper things to this design style. It makes you different from other "just buy this" design channels. Thank you.
I love everything you said about light and cloudy days! I've been really concerned because we've just bought our first house (it's still being built) and we live in the Pacific Northwest and our new home is in a particularly rainy area! This made me look at things in a different light, and now I'm super excited for my moody washed out dreamy lighting! 😁
I LOVE it when you share a video Valentina💕. This is definitely the style I have been gravitating to this past year. I enjoyed farmhouse style and still appreciate it but the more minimal home surroundings are just so relaxing and soothing to me. I so enjoy everything you share...thank you for all of the inspiration friend😊. Oh and I would LOVE to see many more videos about scandinavian style, some dupes for this style and home tours too!
My first apartment was Scandi design, then after we got our forever home, I thought we should be more mature and design it with more traditional furnishings. After 40 years of marriage, I was really wanting to return to my Scandi "roots" and I'm so glad we did! We spent 2020 in Covid isolation, so I used that time to watch your videos and select furniture and decor to change the house. I have added Copenhagen to our travel bucket list! Thank you for your design instruction and ideas!
I've tried to incorporate this whole esthetic into my home - I find it interesting about the 'mess' though. I was just watching another Scandi channel and she really IS Scandi and she has nuthin' on the kitchen counters and it was a moment of where I was like 'wait - is this Scandi or Minimalism?' I think sometimes the two get confused. You always have the BEST Inspo photos - I literally stopped in the middle of the video to move some stuff around. I live in a pretty dark place actually, and white walls were so bad in here - omg - it was horrid - but what did work to get the Scandi vibe was the lightest lightest ice grey - completely changed the vibe. :) xoxo as always.
Hello Valentina Great content. Would you consider doing a Spring porch decor transition...Loved your Fall porch makeover...Finding ALOT of farmhouse style...😳
I love your channel. The way you present it, both your enthusiasm, so entertaining and genuine. Also love that you’ve lived in different countries and bring that experience to the viewers. The whole channel is a breath of fresh air. ❤️ and I just bought the black and white vase at Hay. Yeah I know I’ll have to stop watching you 🤣
Thanks Valentina for this great video! I loved it! It is not just about the style but also finding the balance and harmony that so many of us need so badly this days. And I'll go for full-on sun!
I grew up with minimalist Swedish Modern and it never felt “homey” to me (the giant lamp and ashtray were IT as far as “accessories”) so of course I had to rebel (!) with antiques and Shabby Chic, etc. HOWEVER-it’s aaalll different now years later and I love the clarity and space to breathe that this type of decor and lifestyle bring. Love all these tips and photos SO MUCH!!
My home is on a lake with floor to ceiling windows all around it, and 90 percent of the time it’s sunny and extremely bright, which we build ourselves. Beautiful home. But Sooo much light. I find myself craving overcast and rainy days. I paint the entire house over with dark colors in almost every room including the ceiling. I love a moody interior. By the way. Thank you 🙏🏾 for making me feel that I’m not crazy and alone for painting my trim and ceiling the same color as my wall. I did it year’s ago and my painters were horrified, I didn’t care. I love the way I fee when I’m in my rooms. Big thanks and much love to you. I’m definitely a moody girl.
I love lotsa natural light during the daytime, moody lighting in the evening, so that is how I have chosen lighting for our home. I like for each room to tell its own story, starting from the moment you approach the door leading into our home. We use a black and white theme in every room, and incorporate color with decor. I use one, similar color, in every room, to "tie/ connect" all the rooms. In Spring it may be the color green through the use of plants and green glass; in Fall, it may be the use of terra cotta/soft, brown leather...I LOVE your vlogs! They are seasoned, non-judgmental, and FUN! Keep 'em coming, PLEASE. 🖤🤍🖤🤍🤎💚 #THEValentinaFussell
Its honestly super cool to hear your take on Scandinavian design tied with having actually lived there, and picking up on things and tying the visible design with the culture. Like even breaking down the actual meaning of Hygge And I really like that quote, "A beautiful home is centered around the life you're living inside of it." And yes! The historical mixed with the modern. Design juxtaposition is like my favorite thing ever.
My mother-in-law is German and nannied in Switzerland for a while. Her home, here in the states, is very much like this. In my 20s I thought it lacked pizzaz and interest however now that I have raised children and so appreciate the simple things in life my tastes have transitioned to this style.
This style is where I transitioned to when I realized that modern minimalism was not for me. Now I love a mix of designs done with a modern aesthetic which is probably why I love your channel. I love your optimism about cloudy days and hoped that maybe it could change my perspective ... sorry but no - I need my sun! 😁
Thanks so much, for all your suggestions. Absolutely beautiful. Being Irish, living in Ireland, in a north facing home, that loses light but needs it so much. I am looking forward to creating and redesigning.
Beautifully said! I'm not a fan of the Scandinavian design style, but their design premises are universal: light, life, coziness....all huggable and happy feelings in our spaces. I TOTALLY understand your need for light, lots of windows and views to the outside. I lived in Anchorage Alaska for 20 years and suffered the darkness also. My walls are white and I adore floor to ceiling windows now!
A very good insight! It seems a home could be a sort of living art installation! I like the idea of form and function which the scandi style seems to incorporate! Also the importance of light and maximising it which is important in Ireland too!
I love the blend of old and new. Family pieces handed down over generations, or found things that tell a story is what gives a home a heart to me. I love new things as well, but trying to practice moderation in acquiring new things. I also love mixing high and low cost. Thrifting or some one of a kind piece of art and can be drawn to trendy mass produced objects. I guess I am saying I am eclectic leaning French/Swedish, and totally ok contrasting/complimenting with modern things. Do whatever you love is my philosophy. Love your channel. Congratulations on your silver award! Look forward to your videos! PS love your navy blue dishes....favorite color.
New sub here! would love to hear your tips on how to decorate and keep a nice space with KIDS! haha. I have 3, 3 and under and they are always getting into things like decor, coloring on walls, etc.
Thank you for introducing me to Scandinavian design!!! I LOVE the style and your content is helping me get closer to achieving that Hygge feel.... goals!
I love this!! This is so ME!! My culture my beliefs and my goal for my home! Living in Alaska we also have a connection to the light! Koselig or hygge is the feeling I want to create in my home
Can relate to the light issue coming from UK. Love a mix of new and old and as for plants, after seeing your perennial geraniums last year, I took loads of cuttings and now have lots of greenery indoors.
I agree with the previous comment. I found Scandi this year and am obsessed now. Question: light pine floors, greyish white walls, limestone rock fireplace (beiges, taupes) I have black accents in the room. I want to do a leather sectional.....started out thinking dark dark brown, and now thinking a little more subtle, softer brown and a lot less contrast than dark brown. ( I do NOT like the rust chairs and sofas that I see a lot in Scandi pictures. ps. just found you recently on youtube and really enjoy your ideas and suggestions
I am recommending taupe and light camel leather to many of my clients these days. It’s lighter and airier and yet you get all the benefits of leather 🖤🖤
Ahhh but the scandis love rust. If you check out Pineapple decor on TH-cam they post a lot of Scandinavia design and I noticed how mush rusty brown the scandis do in pillows and bedding. It is interesting.
I am Danish and I smiled. It is SO nice to hear hygge and Scandinavian living described by one who gets us. Who understands.
Yes soo true! Härligt...
Who understands what?

Thanks Valentina for this great video! I loved it! It is not just about the style but also finding the balance and harmony that so many of us need so badly this days. And I'll go for full-on sun!
Yes, now more than ever we have to carve out that balance when we are doing almost everything from home!
I live for all your videos! Thanks for all the inspiration and uplifting messages. Your videos are totally my style in life and in design.
That makes my heart so happy!! 🖤🖤🖤
Skandinavien design it's so beautiful
I love cloudy days and muted colors too. We are building a new house and I’m definitely going Scandinavian ❤️
Oh how exciting!!
@@HouseofValentina ❤️
I love Scandinavian design, but also black and white photos and super color saturation in floral design or a painting as well.
The view in your video today is gorgeous! I absolutely loved everything you spoke about in today’s episode!
Thank you and thank you! 😘
Yay!! Love your practical tips and your fresh way of looking at - and living - your life! Look so forward to your vlogs every week! xoxo
I love these times we get together! 🖤🖤
My home is on a lake with floor to ceiling windows all around it, and 90 percent of the time it’s sunny and extremely bright, which we build ourselves. Beautiful home. But
Sooo much light.
Salutations from CT. I really love your channel. One thing I learned about Scandi is that they combine old and new, that is amazing, I love it!!!!!

That sounds so hyggelight! 🖤🖤🖤
@@HouseofValentina you're the best! Lol
I loved all the pictures during your presentation, love light for sure and white walls. Loved everything
Thank you so much for this video, I completely relate to your love for the sun and natural light!!☀️
My mother-in-law is German and nannied in Switzerland for a while. Her home, here in the states, is very much like this. In my 20s I thought it lacked pizzaz and interest however now that I have raised children and so appreciate the simple things in life my tastes have transitioned to this style.
💚🤎💚🤎 love it! You’re such an inspiration. 😊
I have decided to go for a Scandinavian style with my new home 🏡😍🙏🏼
Bright sunny room all day, everyday. Love your channel! 💖
Yes absolutely a connection with nature💕
I love combining modern and vintage.
I love the soft diffused light.
This style is where I transitioned to when I realized that modern minimalism was not for me. Now I love a mix of designs done with a modern aesthetic which is probably why I love your channel. I love your optimism about cloudy days and hoped that maybe it could change my perspective ... sorry but no - I need my sun! 😁
😂 I understand! I’m a rare person that looooves cloudy days!
I can gake it for two day, no more
Thanks so much, for all your suggestions. Absolutely beautiful. Being Irish, living in Ireland, in a north facing home, that loses light but needs it so much. I am looking forward to creating and redesigning.
I came for Scandinavian design and stayed for your wonderful personality and taste!
That is so kind! Thank you and welcome!
I like a mix but primarily modern with a fabulous antique piece or two.
I just always love your energy in every video. These were amazing insights.
You know I love ALL your videos, but this could be my fave!🖤🤍
Thnku so mch for sharing your valuable knowledge with us.. Scandi style rocks🤩..
Stay Blessed Stay Happy Always 😘🤗🥰🧚♀️🦄🌈🧿
I’m so excited 😆
We are living in Denmark 🇩🇰
Xoxo
Eeek! I miss it so much! We have a long list of things we want to do, see, and eat when we get to visit!
I love your enthusiasm! And your aesthetic!
You definitely have your hands full and even those ours weren’t that close in age, we have learned a lot along the way. Thanks for the fun suggestion!
Soo cool recognizing places from your hood
Yeah we really miss it but hope to visit just as soon as we can!
