Regarding the zipper-less pillow, perhaps instead of storing it in the off season you could use it as a base to stuff into other zippered pillow covers. Win win!

Valentina, I love your experimental side and how you share it with us! Thank you for all of the work you do and for the joy you bring. My house is so much more beautiful - so much more of a home - since I started watching your channel. I absolutely love creating a space, as you would say, that makes me feel like me when I walk in. What a warm hug it is! You’re awesome!!

Loved this, Valentina! One thing I will NEVER buy again is colored or patterned furniture. I am one of those people who tire very quickly of those things. I will only buy neutral furniture and if I want color, I can add that in with accessories.

Enjoyed the video, but I thoroughly enjoy the last few clips at the end. Keep putting those in, so relatable and fun. I'm having to rethink my entire home. What to keep, what should go. After being married for 54+ years, hubby passed and I have lots of decisions to make. I won't do them rashly or quickly, but someday in the near future decisions will have to be made. I don't want to move, I love my home, old 1890 farmhouse, but I'm so over "stuff" that's been hanging around forever. One day I'll start to shake things up. Some precious memory pieces will remain and the rest can go.

Condolences to you on the loss of your husband. You are very wise to take a breath before you start to throw things away. Going through the loss of someone you love, you aren’t thinking as clearly as you may later. Good luck on your new journey! 👍

I loved this conversation. Especially about the deeper emotional impact of the things we keep around. I personally feel guilt buying something new or changing things up. Like feeling bad about spending money on things that are just "superficial." But you struck a nerve when you were talking about "holding yourself back" with the life you want. Wow

    • @olivias669
      @olivias669 2 ปีที่แล้ว +7

Girl, take the leap. Your environment is a reflection of who you believe you are. You deserve to build a space that makes you feel confident, proud and serene. Turn your guilt into grace and gratitude and pass on what is no longer serving you! Facebook Marketplace is a magical tool. Goodwill is a magical place! You have the power to cultivate joy within yourself and others by releasing the *stuff* that's been hindering your trajectory. You are worthy of it. Best of luck!

I am making the house we live on for the last 15 years, finally my own and I stumbled upon your channel. Well, it is so down to earth! My grandma was an interior designer and I miss her now, but here I have found so much wisdom now that I needed, plus your minimalistic style and use of afordable items is perfect. Thank you for making this wonderful world of interior decoration more understandable and available to a lot of people that only “fill up a space” but are not “making it their home” Greetings from a Colombian in the Netherlands. This was great! I just moved to a new state after a huge life change and now getting rid of almost everything I PAID to move! My practical side cringes and feels guilt over “waste” but it’s a totally different house, environment and life I want to embrace. The old not only doesn’t fit but feels stifling. As I allow myself to shed the old and purchase new things that do fit, there’s this shift that feels like metamorphosis. Holding onto things that don’t serve anymore doesn’t make you better, it keeps you from moving forward. If I had the move to do over, I’d sell/donate almost everything!

  • @patriciakelly69

I love your videos. I was so pleased you made this video. I have made so many mistakes over the years. I’m in my 70s and I love home stuff but I have been often lured by shops and music and the smells of products that are set out to entice. Watching you and others that I follow iv learned to think and make better choices using a mood board to decide colours, furniture etc. The worst products over the years have been cushion covers. I am the Queen of terrible cushion cover choices. But I’m getting better at choosing. The one thing that I’ve have in my home that I have not been able to donate is a China cabinet that my mother left to me. It’s been over 50years since she passed and I keep it under the stairs. Occasionally I have an impulse to get rid of it. I take it out, but then a day later I panicked and put it back. It’s totally ridiculous. It’s moved with us so many times.
25 years ago we moved to Spain from England and it came with us, although most of all the other furniture we bought is long gone. I know the memories of my mum will always be with me, but even though I never wanted the cabinet i can’t let it go. It’s a case of out of site is out of mind. Love to you both , you’re so lovely. Xx 😘

Thank you. I am getting rid of the the giant coffee pot I've had in my basement for 35 years! A freebee, it's one of those metal drip style with the toggle spout at the bottom, they're always at large gatherings where you're going to need about 40 cups of coffee. Special request: since you have moved so much and needed to start from scratch. Can you give us more advice on doing the same thing? Like strategies for building on things so you don’t need get rid of so much later?
As an example, I heard a tip to buy patio tables and chairs first, so you could have something to use right away, and then really take your time to find what you really want and save enough for it. And you can still use your patio furniture afterwards.

Everything you touched on I’ve been there done that. You are not alone; I invest in oversized quality items that bring me joy-no knickknacks. I mix traditional, modern, and contemporary decorations together throughout my home. Which I think gives my home an elegant look. I do the same thing when it comes to my clothing. I buy quality clothing, which keeps me from purchasing item’s I’ll never wear. And when it comes to food, it must be fresh quality food because what we put in our bodies will affect our health later in life. I rarely dine out and never eat at a fast food restaurant, because cooking at home for my family and friends brings me much joy. I hope you don’t mind me sharing. You both are an inspirational couple who care about your viewers. 💞💕

Thanks for the kick in the backside. There's lots of stuff I will never use, wear etc that is just taking up space. This is going to be a sizable load going to my neighborhood second hand shop. It's all just stuff that keeps us from something better. We deserve better. Great video.

I love that you gave permission to release things given from family. I keep everything. A stranger gave me a pen and I kept it until it ran out of ink.

Valentina and Jack I love being on this journey with the two of you and your family, your both an inspiration to how decorating can be Fun without all the headaches that come along with it, You take that away from us with all your beautiful tips and tricks on how to style something without breaking the bank, it’s the little things that make a home come together and You Two have done exactly that on your channel, I always hit that Like button before I even start watching because I know it’s going to be Great. You’ve inspired me to bring certain things into my home that I would never of thought of, just some branches off my trees into a lovely vase makes all the difference and I would of never thought of that, the vase would of still been stored away in my cupboard now it’s getting used and looks lovely with my Magnolia branches sitting in it that cost nothing. Keep up the Great work and you’ll be at 500k before you know it, You guys surely deserve it for all you do. Cheers from Nellie from Queensland Australia 🇦🇺….on a side note, not many stores here have a return policy, so your lucky over there 👉🏻🇺🇸. ❤️❤️

This video was so inspiring as I am in the process of pre- down sizing and learning to let go of stuff. I appreciate the " failures" being learning and educational opportunities and the opportunity to bless others. I am learning to keep the quality, keep it simple and use nature to decorate. Thanks for sharing.

Always enjoy seeing both of you together. ♥️ I love this video and 1000% agree. You have to try things and get some things “wrong” to learn your true style. Preach girl. Yes let’s mix styles to create more interesting rooms. Mixing styles has been an epiphany I have leaned just this year. 🤯 It is so freeing and makes for my perfect room that I can feel proud of.

Your road house is twice as big as my home. British homes are tiny. My husband loves your Paris train map, circa 1960 he said. 😅

Love this video! 💜 The last point about freebies is so important. Family members with good intentions want to give you a lot of free stuff, but it’s important to be able to respectfully say no when something is not your style. I usually go with “this is lovely, but I don’t think it will fit my space, but thank you!”

    Little items 🙄
I have recently gotten rid of TONS of small items that I had just ‘because’!
I love that because you’ve lived abroad you understand these issues that might not get when you live in America. Would love to see a video of how to decorate a small and multifunctional space for those living over the pond! Especially with colour… small dark space.. do I paint light, do I go for the dark dramatic look? Arggg!!!

Omg I have enjoyed and watched so many of your videos over the past year - I am an artist and my home is an extension of my soul. I have found kindred spirits in the house of V. I love your vibe and your passion - your partnership is so inspiring as well! Thank you for giving the masses the value of aesthetics and clarity of vision.

Ok. I have had my fun with quick comments. We visited a friend in San Antonio. They are an older couple so I expected to see many chocthkies in their home and I did but everything was meaningful and not overdone. I liked it. I have been seriously looking what we have in our home. Gotten rid of stuff. Bought new stuff. I think I am closer to finding my style. You guys have made me more sensitive to how we live and what is needed and what is not. Thanks a bunch.

Yes! I cannot say how much I felt you with the pillows/ cases with no zippers! I try to avoid it all costs, but, It pains me so much to buy a pillow with no zipper. I guess I could have worse problems, lol
