Half Blood Prince was actually really fun during its time. I absolutely loved and enjoyed its gameplay and the amount of things you could do, for its time it was something new.

I put SO MANY hours into this game just exploring Hogwarts and making potions and dueling! I honestly love comparing the two games! It makes me so excited to see how much more Hogwarts Legacy provides!

Duelling was surprisingly fun in that game.
My only complaint is that in half blood prince I really enjoyed them allowing you to brew and mix your own potion but in hogwarts legacy it just does everything for you.
Apart from that I love the game.
the main draw id hogwarts legacy is making ur own character. being an actual student. being in your choice of house. and being a open world rpg. thats what harry potter fans have been waiting for. not playing some movie but to actually be in the magical world. how many ppl are still waiting for their freaking letters from Hogwarts?
And the inmersive crowded school is amazing, seeing the school being so alive is amazing

Half Blood Prince is almost 14 years old now and honestly it did age quite well. Back then these graphics were amazing and the castle was mind-blowing.
I remember playing Half-Blood Prince when I was a kid and while I enjoyed it, I always wished we could get a game like Hogwarts Legacy since.

It’s crazy it took them so long to figure out there was a demand for that. They had everything already done but couldn’t make a dlc or anything with a new story and a character editor. And nobody ever modded the game ! What a missed opportunity!
I feel a bit let down that in Hogwarts Legacy there are no classes outside cut scenes. You never walk into a class room and see someone studying. Outside some missions, you can walk everywhere during the curfew, even in forbidden locations.
I halfway disagree with you. While you attend multiple classes, multiple different times they could have made them more interactive. I think the first classes you attend for most of the subjects all have interactivity but each one after is just a quick cut scene and a spell learned. That can be improved upon.
The classrooms are empty but I've found NPC's studying in the library and such at night and that made enough sense to me.
I will agree with you about the curfew. It's inconsistent. The library and staff tower are off limits at night during the missions and require stealth but if you show up at night outside of a mission you can just waltz in and nothing happens.
The big one for me is the curfew but considering the other sheer amount of detail they put into this game none of these issues really bother me.
@@connorwelch6265 I think the point being made is that there are basically no school activities outside of quests. Hogwarts legacy doesn't really allow you to live the fantasy of attending hogwarts as a student, the world outside of missions is very static and dead. There's no attending classes, no chatting with the other students, no hanging out in the common rooms, no sneaking about at night avoiding teachers.. nothing.
The game is beautiful in terms of executing the world itself, but is more like like a generic action-adventure title that just happens to take place in and around hogwarts rather than a proper hogwarts rpg.
I really hope that they are able to bring the nostalgic feeling of 1-3 back where youve been wandering around collecting beans and others things to than trade in for picture cards of famous witches and wizards.
I think part of that was that you were still a kid when playing those games.

Using Wii motion controlls for this game during potions class was my favourite part! Wand control motions were also super cool.
I got an extra copy of "Order of the Phoenix" just because of the wand control with the Wii remote...was it possible to cast spells by moving the remote in "Halfblood Prince" too or is it like in "Deathly Hallows" by pressing buttons?
I'll still order it for the Wii anyway, just because of the nostalgia :D

I knew Hogwarts Legacy was made by detailed obsessed fans of the books, when they showed the circular tunnel entrance into the Gryffindor common room behind the Fat Lady portrait.
When I first saw that, I knew this game would be amazing, because if they could include something as minuscule as that, they would get a lot of the big stuff right.

@@sorarescouts3782 It's a good game with lots to do, but lets not pretend that it's not just a glorified movie with ideas stolen directly from them. It's basically just all the movies but different characters and open map with fetch quests. In first games you had collectables that were fun to get now all you get is a paper with text. There's no hidden rooms that made you wanna look for them, constantly bombarded with cutscenes, talking, lore. It literally takes about half an hour or so until you're finally being able to play and even then the game is constantly holding your hand like no one has ever played games before. Other than a huge map there's nothing really fun to do.
Best Harry Potter game was in my opinion Prisoner of Azkaban. Those 3v3 wand duels were so fun. And I loved the horror element. I could never get past the part where you have to drag Severus while casting expecto patronus on dementors chasing you. That level was too hard for my young self.

Yeah, that shit traumatised me. I also remember certain things just being too difficult for me to wrap my head around lmao. Like, there was this mission that required you to cast Lumos and Flipendo in quick succession on these wispy creatures in a dark room, and I just couldn't pull it off. I remember my aunt had to do it for me.
Best for me too, the whole eery atmosphere and music, riding buck was easily one of my best moments in gaming
that was the game i played when i had more cognitive function than i did when playing philosopher's stone and chamber of secrets so i remember it better. still feel the echo of the vibe i had while doing the puzzles and switching between characters when thinking abt it
Very cool side by side comparison video! They have a ton of similarities as if the Avalanche developers studied the previous games as well to give it as sense of continuity.

I remember playing half blood prince on xbox 360 over 10 years ago and thinking "I'd love to play an even bigger harry potter open world". I've been waiting for this game for a decade and I'm so glad it's finally here!

I grew up on Half-Blood Prince, it was my favorite Nintendo Wii Game. Having to shake the remotes for different spells, and then the interactive way you can brew potions was so enjoyable! Quidditch in the game, while just a game of going through hoops, was so cool as well.
I will never ever hate it, and would probably still be replaying it now if my Wii worked.

Agreed. That's one thing that I think Half-Blood Prince really did well: the potions. It was my personal favourite activity in the game and it was something I hoped we might've gotten more of in Hogwarts Legacy, but I think it was fair enough that they didn't do that considering everything else they put in the game.

My boys had this game for the Wii (which I totally did t realize until a few months back) I was lucky enough to find it and play it for myself. It’s a fun playing for the meantime until HL comes out.

I remember playing ps1, and ps2 Harry Potter games and just loving around running around the small area of the school. Always feeling limited and imagining but never expecting the game to continue to this game. I pre-ordered the game and have been playing it and it's really fun just to explore.

Really wish they’d remaster the order of the phoenix and half blood Prince games. I must have played order of the Phoenix at least 30 times.
I had a bunch of fun playing some of the old Harry Potter games on PC back in the day, especially Chamber of Secrets.
It's kind of wild they made a game for EVERY book/movie. I feel like a lot of people might not realize that now.
As much money as that franchise made, it isn't very wild at all. It MIGHT have been considered a gamble to give quidditch its own game, though.

Half Blood Prince Hogwarts looks more like an actual castle, like an actual place you could find in a small town in Europe. Hogwart´s Legacy castle on the other hand... Looks more magical, more... ethereal. It is a lot more fantastical and in my head, closer to go I imagined the books. Harder to imagine being possible, but also more dreamlike, more alive and just... warmer and more welcoming.
Thats because the movies were shot on actual medieval architectural locations in the UK, so a lot of its castle design is a direct copy of real life locations smushed together. Legacy is inspired by architectural movements from Romanesque all the way to Art Nouveau (basically all the old architectural styles that put emphasis on detailed designs), but going far wilder and grander with the styles than they ever did in real life. Thats why it feels more magical and etherial, it takes familiar and displays it in an ultimate form of the styles expression that was never achieved in real life.
i absolutely lost it when i saw the castle with it's iconic three small towers attached to the big one. flying on my broom past that crooked wooden bridge also made me feel things

I played halfblood prince on Xbox when it first came out. Back then I was only 10 so my gaming skills hadn't fully developed. I enjoyed exploring the world and was able to latch on to the story. I loved potion making but was god awful at combat. So I always passed the controller to my big brother who is the biggest Harry Potter fan I know. He never lost a single duel.
Half blood Prince was so freaking good. That and prisoner of azkaban are legendary games.
Yeah the room with the mirror of erised is even featured.
The spellcasting in hogwarts has more similarity with combat in God of War and Spider Man: MM then what I remember from the old HP games. Just from what you posted the fireball spell is much more iconic then a zap of energy over and over again.
This is just the video I was looking for. After seeing some HL footage I got the urge to download and play HBP again these past couple days. I was amazed by how good HBP holds up. There are no loading screens and the castle feels giant despite the fact that there actually aren't that many areas to explore, with lots of places being interconnected. It's not a perfect game, the dueling is simple, the flying is annoying, and the potions are either the easiest thing in the game or horrible and take far too many attempts because some vials just like to explode. But overall i am thoroughly enjoying it. It also has so much more comedy and funny moments than I remembered. I hope HL takes every HBP gives them and runs with it.

Say what you wanna say but old Harry Potter games were gold, I enjoyed the games way more than the movies. I still think the controls on PC were ingenious, the way that moving the mouse in different motions will cast a different spell; it really made you feel like you had a wand in your hand while playing instead of assigning a spell to one simple key press, which I'm sad will be the case with Hogwarts Legacy
"Forced you to play through stars while calling it Quidditch" I mean, the stars are just pathways of where the snitch goes, and Harry is a seeker, the ony role he has in Quidditch is to chase and catch the snitch so naturally you won't be playing the full game, we have the Quidditch World Cup game for that (which I would die for a full remake or Quidditch DLC for HL)

What annoys me is the franchise could have been MASSIVE if they didn’t release the games alongside the movies. We could have had RDR2 or Skyrim level of play for the past 15 or so years. What a shame and what a waste. I hope Legacy lives up to the hype and doesn’t give us a Cyberpunk drop…
The hp game studios make bad games. So it would be great if they'll do something as cyberpunk. I think they'll do even less level. Cause they try to make a big open world. And too many mechanics. That need a lot of time and money. This is one of the reasons why there will no quidditch.
My favorite Harry games was first on the PS1-PS2 I’m beyond hyped for Hogwarts legacy got the deluxe edition preordered that I pick up February 7th can’t wait great content dude seeing this brings me back to the good ol days

@Benjamin Snow ooh, that's a good one... I'm not sure if any other Hogwarts in games is as comparable as Half Blood Prince is since it's the most accurate to the films. But if you have a Playstation and Dreams, there's a VERY beautiful rendition of Hogwarts, Hendril ( ASMR Weekly) has made if you want to compare another map. Graphically, it's way better than Half Blood Prince.
If you meant other video topics, which you've already covered beautifully, it could be cool if we could see the fantastic beasts compared to their movie counterparts, but that might be too short for a video... or a breakdown of the various different Ashwinders and Loyalists and the role each plays in combat. I know you have already touched on this, being our initial gateway to it.

OMG yes. So many Hogwarts Legacy content creator right now are unintentionally spoiling the game by diving too deep trying to dissect what the storyline is about, what this and that character do, what is the secret, what every achievements mean, etc. I just want to find out when I played the game not now. I want to be surprised by everything. Video like this is the kind of HL content I can watch right now. Great video Ben.
My fave HP game was Philosopher's Stone on PS2. Technically it came out after Chamber of Secret on the PS1.
i miss the ACTUAL brewing in potion class. in half blood prince you put stuff togheter and stir the pot etc. in legacy u just gather the ingerdients, press □ and then wait 2min.
I played all the hp games of the series and loved them. Especially harry potter and the order of the phoenix, because it was more of a open world-type experience than the others. Doesn't matter how good or bad the graphics were but i still love those games. It was like a dream come true for any potterhead to roam around Hogwarts.
Honestly that potion class from the half blood prince game looks more fun than the modern game.

Legacy version is more focused on quick crafting and implementation of those potions in gameplay, not slowing down the game play cycle anymore than it needs to be (house dormitories entrances are streamlined with no puzzle or password hassle), rather than the process of making a potion. The Half blood prince minigame was fine, but it would get old quickly with how many times you go through potions in Legacy.

@@yukian8026 los libros no tienen un aspecto claro, cada ilustrador a puestos un diseño diferente uno del otro. El del juego tomaron inspiración de las maquetas usadas en las películas que aunque cambiaron algunas cosas entre películas en general ya tenía un diseño reconocibles
Hogwarts Legacy has yet to be released, now I am not trying to shit on it but we all remember how CP2077 was uppon release.
Heck, it could even surpass our expectations but I still believe it is an unfair video but great effort non the less, and certainly entertaining-
Cp2077 was rushed. Avalanche clearly took their time polishing their game and fixing bugs. The game was originally supposed to come out in 2023.
@@geert12345 We cannot know for certain before we actually play the game, besides there have been other game devs in the past like the ones who developed CoDMW2, that respond to bugs with "we werent aware of the issue up until now" that clearly tells, they didnt give a f about the game.
No clue as to if CP2077 was rushed or not, I never followed up in the hype so I cannot talk about that, but as of now the game is great, the platform its sold on GOG gives you your own copy, not an online license like steam or epic games which lets u play the game without the luncher and offline, and while the world immersion is horrible compared to games like RDR2 the game it self is enjoyable and story certainly had me hooked all the way thru.
Only time can tell with Hogwarts Legacy.

Something that I thought was great about the order of the phoenix and the half blood prince of ps2 is that the spells were performed by making certain wand movements, while in Hogwarts Legacy we have only one wheel of selectable spells, I think I understand. For me, that small detail was a mistake on the part of the developers. Otherwise, it looks great.
I played Half Blood Prince so much as a kid. Insane how much games have evolved since then.
i want to see them do a remaster of harry potter because it would be cool to see it redone and polished it would be cool to see.

Did they relocate Hogwarts to…what? Africa? This is supposed to be SCOTLAND and the UK in the late 19th century, yet we mostly see black and colored characters.

@@Grinchillah It’s a game about a wizarding school in Britain in the 19th century. A wizard population would have looked the same like the rest. WHITE. That’s where Hogwarts is located and the grotesque high number of colored people totally destroys the British atmosphere of Hogwarts.

I think that the Hogwarts in Half blood Prince is Just cooler, especially the random moving stairs . I Miss them in Hogwarts Legacy

What's cool is that you get to see the Hogwarts that Dumbledore grew up in (he starts school about a decade after the game's events).
I've spent hours decorating my room of requirement. You forget about your quests sometimes. Great game. Never played HBP.

I played Half-Blood Prince in 360 when it came out. It was really impressive at that time cuz was the closest you can get to explore Hogwarts.

for 2009 game, HBP graphic is pretty darn good and i'm just very happy to explore hogwarts with that graphic back then when i'm still a kid
Man I was gonna buy the game when I bought a hefty gaming pc in a couple months but I couldn't resist. So now my laptop is on borrowed time till it catches flame from overheating
The only thing I think can be improved upon moving forward is creating a larger world in Hogwarts legacy. It's big as it is yes and it's challenging because the "world" is Earth so they'd have to recreate real places unless they visit other schools. But I think the world could be a bit bigger than what it is which is a small stretch beyond the castle. I think it's a great first step I would just love to see it expanded in the future.
hogwarts and the surrounding area (according to lore) sort of overlapped/are being overlapped. to non-wizard eyes, you'd just see some highlands and moors. it's like that apartment nestled in between the other apartments in The Order Of the Phoenix. the movie did an awful job portraying that but i imagine it's kinda like that, and also a bit like those tents they have in the beginning of Goblet during the Quidditch world cup and when the gang was on the run in Deathly Hallows. like a TARDIS. it's bigger on the inside. so even if they would expand, there's a "magical" reason to not have to model Glasgow on the edge of the map

Liquid luck is in the game. Though I'm pretty sure you can only get it if you pre order since as part of the bonus you get the recipe to make it.
