I put 95K miles on a 2014 1200GS and sold it to buy a 2021 KTM 890 Adventure R. Sold the KTM after 10K miles because it's a pain to pick up because it lays flat and bought another 1200GS. At 72 I'm not getting crazy in the dirt and GS does fine on fire roads!
I’ve used TT products, both as OEM and aftermarket parts, on many bikes and have always admired both the thought that went into their development as well as the production quality. If you do drop the bike and are bothered by the occasional scratch on the crash bars, a bit of elbow grease and a Scotchbrite, or something similar, removes the marks. I think the inner flex plate and outer bolt cover design of the bash plate are great. There is a common refrain about not wanting to mount crash bars directly to engine casings, but I have to say I have never actually seen any damage due to that design. By the way, I apply a dab of assembly paste when installing crash bars in order to minimize any risk of thread damage.
Thanks Ian. Helps my selection process to see the various choices of crash protection actually installed. So far, I am partial to the looks and design of the Wunderlich Ultimate engine bars which per their website should be available the end of May. Would love to see a video of a set of those actually installed once they come out. Also hoping to see a set of Machineart Moto head cover protectors if/when they come out (and wondering if when fitted the MM covers would still allow the Wunderlich Ultimate engine bars to still fit). Also, not sure if your bike was on level ground or the effect of it being on the center stand, but, the oil level your sight glass did not appear to be visible when you showed the that area to view the skid plate install. As we know new bikes sometimes eat a bit of oil until they break in so it might be worth a quick check. Cheers and thanks.
Ian, i always love your job descriptions, keep it going. Love the Touratech racks, I have them on my 2017 Afica Twin, very handy always helps me with lifting the bike up off the ground.
Ian - first of all - another GREAT video !!😀😀👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍 Now - we ( I believe, I speak for the majority of this channel viewers ) are NOT so very retarded 🙄- we CAN tell someone who's presentation is motivated ONLY by 💰💰💰💰 from one that gives a PROPER and realistic information ! - What I mean is - we DON'T mind if you get paid ! - it's not a bad thing, as long as the content does not suffer from "fake news" sickness. You, really, don't need to "apologize" for getting/not getting money..... ☝☝🧐
I've had my Trophy for a week. On the 2nd trip with it. Just a little over 1000 miles in her now. Loving the bike. Traded my 21 GSA (low) for it. I went with the Touratech Panniers racks and luggage racks as well as their headlight protector. My Trophy has the Enduro package so already had the BMW lower engine guards. They match well with the Touratech racks. I'm assuming the BMW engine guards are probably made by Touratech, I don't know.
After you tip over and need to tighten/replace the mirror, NOTE: The lock nut on the mirror is LH thread. Ask me how I know (not from the owner manual.)
R1300GS has a very unique design. It is in a different category of design from that of all other GSs released to date. Therefore it does not let aftermarket parts easily go with it well. This head light cover is a typical case. I do not think this bike accommodates it, and to make parts that match it will be very difficult. The only one who can make such parts that perfectly fit this bike will be the one who designed this bike.
Touratech really took off where BMW marketing ended with my OilHead. The nextgen OilHead really must have kept TT limited to baggage and protection. TT really experimented with materials and I think this latest WasserBoxer accessories are a culmination of real world feedback.
Great chanel always good review, question with that crash guard, the point where it just rest on the frame, will it wear or damage the frame with the vibration of the engine or the rough terrain ? And do you think the high part or fairing guard something that should be considered ?
You think upper crash bars are needed? Seems unlikely that the upper part of the bike would hit the ground, perhaps off roading it would...what do you think? Thanks for your awesome channel, I am a fan. Keep it up!
Thanks for this, Ian. Just took delivery of the case racks , top rack and bottom crash bars. Waiting on the upper crash bars and I am curious what you think of them ? Not yet available for you either?
How did you handle tucking away the cabling when you removed the Vario mounts when you installed the pannier racks? I have yet to find a way other than duct tape.
I’m struggling to choose an engine guard - options are SWM / Givi / Wunderlisch (and as an outlier Altrider but they’re really expensive). I only plan to put engine guards and not a tank guard. Any advice please in choosing between the above 3? Touratech is an outside contender but don’t think I get them in my country easily. Thank you.
@@BigRockMoto Thank you. I am now getting access to Touratech as well from one retailer in my country so it’s come squarely into the shortlist! Would you say it’s better than the Wunderlich or Wunderlich trumps Touratech too? Thank you again for your time responding to this. Cheers.
Looks like they didn’t take in consideration of accessing then oil filter cover. Seems like a miss if I take my bike to the dealer to work on it to do oil changes
I would recommend doing some type of giveaway. Kinda BS that these guys are giving out free stuff even though they are sold out on their website. If they stop giving free stuff to everyone maybe they might have some in stock.
SW-motech makes nice tank bags but their racks and bike protection are not something I can recommend. They seem to want to expand beyond luggage and shower TH-camrs with parts. It’s just not their realm and engineering is not on par with others like touratech. 🤓
This explaining that u don’t take money for reviews is getting tired man. If TH-cam only requires you to throw the paid promotion tab in the left hand corner and or put a disclaimer in the beginning of the vid then do that. Plus it’s coming off a lil Kellogg ceo-ish. The paid promotion tab is there. We see it. U say they gave you the product for free then say you didn’t get paid. U got paid in product and u make content with it. U get in free product to promote it. No shame in that. But to try to spin it as something different it honestly seems weird. You are probably a top 5 moto TH-camr/journalist. But this last 8 months I feel you’ve gotten away from what you cut ur teeth doing: moto reviews and comparisons. Now damn near 2/3 videos are about a fuck ton of accessories. Some very redundant. Ima still watch cuz u have the best BIKE REVIEWS. But the other stuff it’s taking over the channel. Is your revenue up doing it this way?
There is a huge difference between taking money in exchange for a video and taking a free item. So I like to be clear about what my relationship is with companies. As for having more product videos, yes, this is the evolution of a TH-cam channel (for better or worse) and affiliate sales income is the only way I can grow revenue. I have always been transparent about all this. If people are upset, I'm sorry but I have to make a living. I am more transparent than most content creators. Making this particular video is a business loss, the time spent is not worth the tiny revenue generated, but I do it because I think it's useful.
@BigRockMoto, you should save this reply…I’m sure you’ll have to answer this question only about a billion more times…on every single bike/gear/product review you do. I appreciate the content very much and has helped me with many decisions.
I’m super happy you’re spending time on accessories. More important than the actual bike reviews imo. So many accessories it’s hard to know what to buy. Saves time and money with these vids. Lots of places to get bike reviews. Keep up the good work! Cheers
Sorry Ian. Love your channel but I will never buy another BMW. Too ugly and too expensive. I will also never buy a bike over 900cc. Except a Goldwing. Wake me up when you review something smaller😜

Tourtech gear seems much better then my Givi racks. They are seriously rusty and corroded after 4 years beng parked in the UK rain.
Just brought the same bike and was unsure if I should fit upper crashbars this video just showed me they are not needed when the bike lays down
They do look like quality parts, no mention of the price and I guest they're not cheap but worth it i think
Touratech has all the best goodies aka farkles ha. The extra protection is great as you venture off the Straße into the Gelände!

Great review Ian, very informative 😀👍
A real world test of these crash bars would be on a concrete or tarmac surface outside Starbucks 😁

How about a comparison of the BMW and the Yamaha Super Tenere? Opposite ends of the price spectrum.
Thanks for this, Ian. Just took delivery of the case racks , top rack and bottom crash bars. Waiting on the upper crash bars and I am curious what you think of them ? Not yet available for you either?
Great content thanks
Love ur content, ian
Im buying a bmw gs but imbetween 1250gs and 1300gs which one would u recommend?
Notice you have the black dog pegs…I totally love those on my 1250gsa
Brilliant video I really enjoy your channel 😎😎😎
I ordered the same engine crash bar and radiator protector from touratech, just waiting for a shipment
I've actually never put on radiator guards before in 20 years of riding. Is that only something off-road riders need or have I just been lucky?
Yo, interesting👍But not my price & weight
Hello Ian, are the crashbars and luggage rack made from stainless steel?
Congratulations on the new position. Seems like more of a Title Promotion, but still… 😅
How did you handle tucking away the cabling when you removed the Vario mounts when you installed the pannier racks? I have yet to find a way other than duct tape.
Yeah it sucks. Tape for me. There's got to be a cleaner way
I don't trust crash bars and skid plates that bolt to the engine. There's too much risk of damage to the engine case.
Absolutely agree

The bike looks awesome. The luggage rack is ugly and the wheels look like Grom wheels. I have a 1250 GS and a Grom.
