He probably cut the wire then bought a simple switch online and soldered the two ends of the cut wire to each side of the switch. That way, when the switch is off, the wires are disconnected from each other, and when it's on, it behaves as it did before he cut the wires. A nice idea 💡

This is a great video. It is irritating driving with my headlights on all day long. It is a waste of energy and will burn out your headlights sooner than they have to burn out.
It is great to control your headlights.
Cutting the pin will do the same.
Or you can use a needle or safety pin to push a tiny detent on pin #12 to remove that pin.

  • @wendyphillips5002

Yea if you don’t want to do all of that. And you want them off when you are parked...turn the car off..pull up your e-brake..and start the car. The headlights won’t be on. They won’t turn on until you out the e-brake down.

This worked great, thanks. But what i did was buy a separate DRL relay box on ebay for $10 and just snipped the #12 terminal on DRL relay box. This way I didn't have to cut the car's wiring- I'm a big framed guy and it would be almost impossible for me to climb under dash and clip the wire. There's not much extra wire. The way I did it I can just put the original DRL relay box back in if I sell car or just want to have DRLs again. Thanks.

I've been watching and doing a lot of research and e eeyone out there doesn't explain how to do this properly. I'm going to explain it to you and hopefully it'll answer all your questions instead of these people who make the videos don't even respond back or give a poop about you cutting the wrong wire.
Ok this will disable your DRL also know as daylight running lights so you can have full control over your headlights without all the automatic turn on stuff. This will work for the 9th generation 02-08 Corollas. I'm going to make this as simple as possible u like these so call guys making the videos not really telling you the whole steps.
*The DRL module box is located underneath the steering column. If you craw under it and look up you will see it. It's a black rectangular/squareish box. That is your daylight running light/headlights box. What you do first unplug the white clip, (now do this part which is very important) otherwise you won't know which wire to cut. After unplugging the clip what you wanna do is pull up on the black box and take the black box out before cutting anything. The black box is crucial because this will determine which wire to cut. On different years is different wires. But the main thing you have to do to make sure is no matter what year it is ALWAYS pin#12. After taking out the black box after unhooked it you look at the inside of the box and there should be numbers inside. Don't worry I'd you don't see pin#12 because it won't be on it. But they have the other numbers in there and you should be able to tell where pin#12 is. They skip every other number for some reason but you get it. So whether the wire you're trying to cut is all red with a tiny strip which is right next to pin#1 &2 which are the big fat red and beige color ones or the yellow wire JUST MAKE SURE you look inside the black box and see where pin#12 is located? Mine is a 2005 Corolla S and mine is red with the tiny stripe. All you do is just cut the red and white stripe wire and use some electrical tape and tape both of the cut ends. THATS IT!! THATS ALL YOU NEED TO DO! This is for the red and white stripe wire. For the yellow wire which is usually for 02-04 models I believe is the yellow wire and from what I see researching I find that you have to cut the yellow wire and tape the end and ground the one coming from the clip/module. I'm not sure about this since mine is a 2005 and I did not do it that way. But to be sure just MAKE SURE YOU LOOK INSIDE TYE BLACK BOX to see where pin#12 is in your Corolla? If you your pin#12 is the yellow one I advise you to just cut it and hop out and turn your car on and see if the DRL is disable? If so great it worked if not then follow the steps to ground the wore coming from the module/clip part and make sure you tape off the other end.
Ok, I hope this is more clear then some of these videos that are made on TH-cam and the internet. If you have any questions please feel free to ask? Thanks and drive safe and take care of your Corolla.

The uploader showed the black box and even told us it's pin #12. It's a bit ironic that you called out the uploader but don't mention how to ground the wire. I think the video and your explanation is fine, so there's no need to call him out.

This is a great option that allows us to turn off our headlights all daytime. We do not need our headlights on all daylight every day.
This way we have the option to turn on our headlights only when needed.
This way when it is getting or dark I just turn on my headlights like every other vehicle on the roads of the USA.

The problem lies with having your lights constantly running even during the day. The stock bulbs do put strain on the engine, alternator and thus could potentially be lessening your gas mileage , alternator life, and bulb life. Try adding LEDS in place of the stock bulbs and your engine will run a lot easier. Also, why is it so hard to flip a switch when you need the lights.

Go under the dashboard in the same place this guy was, and match up the sensor on the top, front left of your dashboard to the location under your dash to see where it’s plugged in. Just simply unplug the clip attached to the sensor. It’ll be a little hard to get your hand in there so I used locking vice grips

I didn't ground the wire on my 05 corolla s and after a few months, just out of the blue, while leaving the grocery store, my accelerator wouldn't work, I turned the car and everything off and started it back up, the issue didn't return at that point, I thought on it but couldn't draw a conclusion...later that evening, after taking off my transmission wouldn't shift out of 1st gear...so I stop, kill the car, start it back up and try to take off and the accelerator isn't working again...so i I restarted it and revved the engine before shifting to make sure the accelerator was working then, shifted into gear to take off, the accelerator is not working again, so I restart quickly, rev it, shift into gear while I knew the accelerator was working and it takes off, but yet again won't shift out of first...so I asked what was different when it first happened earlier that day than it was now doing. ..the only real difference that I could think of was the time...that only left me asking myself what could have been the same earlier as now...and it hits me, since it's dark now, instinctively I'm turning on the lights upon starting up...maybe I had turned the lights on the first time the accelerator didn't respond, ultimately concluded I had to have, because now the only way I can drive at night is with my hand holding the dimmer switch back to the unswitched bright location and my foot slightly on the brake, and after searching the web and not finding anyone else to have had such issues, I'm back here looking through the comments to see if anyone commented that they have as well.

Ive owned 2 early 2000s german cars before my 2005 corolla and for all the weird dumb nonsense the german cars have, at least the headlight controls actually do what it says and I can turn the headlights off

Of course it is a pain in the ass, using one hand and in the other the cell phone I could not see what you did and how, having cheap cameras that can be used in the forehead, I prefer that they light up so others can see me in advance, every madman with his subject

That’s ridiculous by law all cars built since 1990 have to have daytime running lights if you drive with your lights off and no Daytime running lights it makes it harder for other cars to see you because they expect all cars that have daytime running lights you get cut off more and might even have an accident I have a 1995 Toyota Tercel and I’m trying to figure out how to get the daytime running lights working it’s a lot safer it’s a low-voltage light and it safer for everybody

    • @omgcheeter
      @omgcheeter 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

First of all your wrong on that law. Many built after 1990 including the one you have does not have daytime running lights. Many people prefer complete control over their lights. If you want I have em on during the day good for you. If someone can’t see a vehicle during daylight, then they shouldn’t be driving. Your statement makes no sense
