What a amazing world we live in when a man like Streten can wipe all our problems away with a 48 minute video of replacing old BMW suspension bushings. Love it so much
That bushing puller kit is impressive. Nice work !!! Congratulations on the new press. I've struggled with that one you used at first for quite some time
Hey Sreten, great video - I always enjoy watching an episode while eating dinner. I wanted to mention something I noticed: The silver sockets are usually not designed to be used with power tools and the higher dynamic loads. Hazet makes some great power tool usable sockets and extentions etc. - may be they are kind enough to support you with a set for christmas :) Safety first!
You start watching this and by the 40 minute mark you realize that you almost spent an hour watching someone rebuilding rear suspension and it's worth it, also congrats on the 600k subs, keep up the good work
The E31 futuristic design and innovative engineering have cemented its status as one of BMW's most iconic models. Sreten, your E31 will be head and shoulders above the rest. I still pinch myself every time I drive mine.
The transparent dust boots are also TPU (thermoplastic Polyurethane). Most black dust boots are CR (cloroprene rubber). There are also black TPU boots as you are using, most likely Elastollan. Long term salt spray tests show that TPU is much better than CR. So I wouldnt look for black or transparent, but rather for the material. Great Video as always!
Thanks for the input! However, my real-life experience has shown that transparent boots don't last as long as black rubber boots. E39, E60... use transparent boots on the rear control arms, and they are always the first to fail.
@@M539Restorations Dust boots can be quite tricky, although one might think it's an absolutely simple and basic component. Especially the neck ring of the dust boot must be tight enough to seal, but loose enough so the ball pin can rotate without twisting and turning the boot. The latter leads to a failure at the bottom ring, since there are sharp edges and rough surfaces where the boot eventually rotates over. TPU boots are slightly stiffer than CR boots, so the neck ring must really fit perfectly, which it often does not.
As Sreten stated, Ed from V12Throttle is a blessing to the community! I'm lucky to live close and he has performed much much work and installed his high quality parts on my '91 850.
Good video, but I wish there were some visual and audio effects when showing the repeated removal of parts (as an example). Maybe a red glow and a sci-fi sound? Just a thought!
I like it that you always trying new things to make the video more interesting, and even more that you are open for suggestions. Keep up the great work my man!!!
Your videos are amazing! It's not just anyone who, in times of 1-minute videos, can hold our attention for almost 50 minutes (like in this video, or more like in others) without appeal, with detailed language, but at the same time light and focused on the work well done. My congratulations for the high-level content, something rare on platforms that value volume and short videos.
This was a very enjoyable video, and brought me back some 4 years during Covid, when I spent a few weeks of evening work replacing and refurbishing the rear subframe, suspension and brakes on a 2005 Mini Cooper. With the only comparison being, of course, that every 21st century Mini part is stamped ‘BMW’ (and technically very similar to an early 1 series except being FWD).
I'm so happy for your new "press conference" tool as it was my own! I was thinking as well about your pressure cleaning tool. What if you cut it it the right side and weld some metal sheet, so you gain a bit of more space. More width. That will require wider glass. But that's not a problem in Germany!!! I would do that in my shop. Well on the end some painting cabin and some stove for puder coating! 😅😂🤑😁😉
My CSI rear axle with rear wheel steer was even more of a refurb job, but they handle well for a heavy V12. Great to see more and more being put back on the road. Thanks for your great content.
I have to admit I don't really like BMW cars HOWEVER the 850 is one of my favourites of all time. Some cars don't age very well but this one still looks current with classic lines and excellent proportioning. Well done for rescuing it. 👍 Thread string on the ball joint boot clips and wind them on without using a risky screwdriver.
Awesome transformation of a piece of real 1980 BMW engineering, as well as handling accomplishment as Sreten indicates. Very enjoyable process, and really appreciate his new Press Conference tool too!
Your special effects team did alright during the disassembly :) Being restored in your hands seems to be the best outcome an old BMW could wish for, so many big and small details will make this better than new.
Your videos I watch with the utmost pleasure without wanting to miss one or any second inclusive every word you speak, from over the 50 I watch weekly briefly. Your videos speed and selection, explanotory teaching either in English, German, Spanish (amigo) or Italian including whistles 😗I love🥰🤗 Then to consider that at max I would only change a flat tire... 😄😜
So good see to this old beauty back on track, Sreten. You’re making our motoring world a great service by restoring these engineering marvels. It makes environmental sense as well. Much better to keep more of the existing vehicles running by restoring them than producing new ones.
One thing I like about these videos is that if you are rebuilding the car shown, you can simply use the exact same parts and brands that Sreten uses, and be confident that they are the best available. Saves a lot of research time in this world full of shoddy aftermarket (and even OEM!) parts.
Had the same press (conference LOL) for many years, very cheap but always did the trick. Sold it of and the guy buying it was amazed how good it was in practice. It doesn't always have to be high spec!. Am looking now for that spanner extention you got Sreten!
One of the best episodes for us suspension nerds. I wasn't old enough to drive when this and the Z1 (E30/Z) came out but I was obsessed with their designs. Above all, it was so cool that big B was moving away from semi-trailing to the world of "elasto-kinematics"--sounded so cool! I remember an old CAR magazine article about it that was truly over my head, but had a cool line drawing of the geometry. It's so wild that all those links and balls and bushings were in place and it STILL would add an active rear axel later on. Sreten, where would it go?! Can the rear fenders have a transparent swap out to see it in action? 🙃
For pushing out the rear hubs without tearing up the backing plate. I always use a sacrificial ¾"/19mm thick aluminum disc and an air chisel. Used to work on many 840 and 850. Definitely need to upgrade your press as much as you need it for your collection. Good luck, and I enjoy watching your work.
For the future, when you want shield exposed wiring, please use shrink socks/wrap with glue. It will be much more durable, gives better protection and looks heaps better than the tape. Keep at it! The content is the best there is on youtube!
The extra graphics and editing on the disassembly sequence were really nice. I think going further with that sort of enhancement might be excessive and gimmicky, but this modest polish really sits in the sweet spot!

My Buddy and I were sitting in a café in Johannesburg with his 850i pride and joy parked out front, I commented that another one just passed by same colour etc,....unfortunately is was his!! They recovered a few panels weeks later, what a waste. I don't believe he ever fully got over his loss. Stunning refurbishment on that assembly btw.
Very satisfying to see the E31 come together. Good job Sreten!
What a amazing world we live in when a man like Streten can wipe all our problems away with a 48 minute video of replacing old BMW suspension bushings. Love it so much
Sreten is a bad boy , using that sockets with impact. Yeeh baby , i like that shit 😏😁
Babe wake up ! M539 Restorations uploaded a new video !
Great video. I've just acquired a 2004 E46 330i SE Auto, with 30,000 original miles.
This is the best rear end rebuild of an 8 I've ever seen. Thank you! Now, if only I had a workshop like this to rebuild me own...
The bolts and nuts look almost brand new! No 'chinesium' alloys were used aback in the 80s. 😂
That bushing puller kit is impressive. Nice work !!!
Congratulations on the new press. I've struggled with that one you used at first for quite some time
Congratulations, Sreten, on 600k subscribers!
10:49 the BMW warntone 🤣🤣👌🏽💪🏼 perfekt editing
Hey Sreten, great video - I always enjoy watching an episode while eating dinner. I wanted to mention something I noticed: The silver sockets are usually not designed to be used with power tools and the higher dynamic loads. Hazet makes some great power tool usable sockets and extentions etc. - may be they are kind enough to support you with a set for christmas :) Safety first!
Thank you! I have a set of impact sockets, I just forget to use them in the moment 😁
You start watching this and by the 40 minute mark you realize that you almost spent an hour watching someone rebuilding rear suspension and it's worth it, also congrats on the 600k subs, keep up the good work
"You're looking at the product from the 80s.When engineers were brilliant and cocaine was recreational sport." 😂😂
Tbh, i didnt mind the new edits, it was just something different
Think I can give a good summary of Sreten’s work in 3 words…… “Inspiring Master Craftsman” 👌🏻
Good video, but I wish there were some visual and audio effects when showing the repeated removal of parts (as an example). Maybe a red glow and a sci-fi sound? Just a thought!
😂
@@camswims67 😅
I like it that you always trying new things to make the video more interesting, and even more that you are open for suggestions.
Keep up the great work my man!!!
🎉🎉
Maybe split the video in half and add a gameplay video on one side
Excellent refurbish. I can say Sreten's work is just fantastic. 30 year's old car will be like it left the factory yesterday.
These proper restoration of old BMW is my favorite....well done Sreten. 👍
My CSI rear axle with rear wheel steer was even more of a refurb job, but they handle well for a heavy V12. Great to see more and more being put back on the road. Thanks for your great content.
Beautiful job, Streten. More entertaining than any Netflix series!
I have to admit I don't really like BMW cars HOWEVER the 850 is one of my favourites of all time. Some cars don't age very well but this one still looks current with classic lines and excellent proportioning. Well done for rescuing it. 👍
Thread string on the ball joint boot clips and wind them on without using a risky screwdriver.
Thank you, Sreten, for everything you are doing for the community!
I'm a Discovery Chanel kid from early 2000 and this kind of videos are like magic to me. Amazing, keep it up!
Awesome... the 850i is my dream BMW, but now I've glimpsed perfection how can I live with anything less. Damn you Sreten!
Top work Sreten. Hats off you are the final boss of attention to detail.
Awesome transformation of a piece of real 1980 BMW engineering, as well as handling accomplishment as Sreten indicates. Very enjoyable process, and really appreciate his new Press Conference tool too!
Your special effects team did alright during the disassembly :)
Being restored in your hands seems to be the best outcome an old BMW could wish for, so many big and small details will make this better than new.
Ohh, I miss my 850 CIA 1991, what a lovely car it was . I really like to look at yours videos
Had the same press (conference LOL) for many years, very cheap but always did the trick. Sold it of and the guy buying it was amazed how good it was in practice. It doesn't always have to be high spec!. Am looking now for that spanner extention you got Sreten!
Real ASMR for men. Those suspension bolts coming loose and getting torqued to speculation. What a way to start the day
A great episode, so satisfying watching the transformation! Continue the great work.
It almost seems a shame to hide that thing of beauty under a car. On another point, your video editing is top notch. I really enjoy this channel.
Hi Sreten, super great job.
Beautifully done!!!
Ale
