We are primering (using a roller and brush) a brand new concrete block wall with "Smooth Blocfil Select" (by Dunn Edwards), it's too thick to use in a sprayer. Our wall has never been painted as yours so it will surely be more porous than in this video but helps us know what we're looking at after it is primed and we'll use a sprayer.

Always a good idea. This wall was already clean and ready to paint even though I did not mention that step in the video. Please subscribe and be one of the first to see my new videos!

I think surface preparation is the biggest issue with any paint job. Exterior walls should be pressure washed. You can brush off interior walls. Mold and mildew have to come off or your paint won’t last. Mortar should be patched. Then painting and method used aren’t as big a decision.

Hello. At our church we have a room we use for preparing meals and classroom. In this room we have a cinder block wall which we tried to paint but towards of the bottom the paint would not stay because the wall produces some type of powder effect. Any suggestions on how to fix the problem so we may finish painting?

Better do a mold test on the wall... you can get one at the local hardware store. If it is positive, go back and get the paint department assistants to guide you with what -"de-molding products to use." There is a anti-mold product to use in the paint you buy as well at the counter. Best wishes

You need a cement bonder to adhere the paint.

Do you recommend to use a primer before painting? The brick is currently baby blue and I will be painting it to a color that is a bit lighter. Thanks in advance!

Not huge on painting but I’m trying to fix the lower part of my house and some stones I have in my garden since I’m already going to have the paint for it… I keep seeing latex, acrylic, and other types like that and I don’t know what to choose. Any advice?

I recommend using the exterior primer/paint mix. Ask for it at the paint store. Thank you for commenting. Please subscribe, like and share the DIY love!
