It’s a pretty smart choice too. If you repaint it, and don’t fix the body, it will probably look worse, dents, rust etc. And I don’t know about Paul, but I can’t stand bodywork!
I completely restored and 1956 Willys pickup with a 283 and drove it for years here in Idaho. I loved that truck and finally sold it to a collector at an antique car auction. Now it's in a personal car collection museum. Have fun and enjoy that wonderful beast...
Thank you for the mention Paul! I really hope you guys can use the hood and gloves. I hope it still works, may need a battery. I haven't been able to use it for a year since the school has been closed. I was raised in foster homes and it means a lot to me to see you encourage those kids to have imagination and work ethic. I haven't had brakes on my 93 Nissan Frontier for at least 8 years. I just keep it in low range and let the engine slow me down. Rarely do I ever even use 2nd gear. It's more of a tractor or a 4x4 wheelbarrow. It hasn't left the Farm for 12 years, gets a little sketchy on the hills, but I stop by turning off the key.

Yay, a Willy's It look just like my grandpas 55 Willy's Wagon. He owned a Phillip 66 service in Spokane where he put a small chewy small block as a sat in a high chair watching He and my Dad worked on it! This vid took me back to my heritage.

While watching this awesomeness, a Ford commercial came on of a father teaching his son how to back a trailer.... using "back assist"!!!! This is what's wrong with the world!!
Watching someone explain how to use back assist seems far harder than any experience I've ever had reversing trailers. And that includes combine comb trailers which have a dolly at the front
That little 283 is a GOOD engine. I had one in a 1963 4 door chevy impala. That was a heavy car. That engine could hold it's own in many drag races. It was a lot of fun.
I am slowly (very) building a 52 willys wagon. Pulled it from a field where it was sitting since 1969. No drivetrain just the body and frame. Put it on a 86 chevy K20 frame modified to actually fit. There is a build thread on Pirates.
Some years ago I had two jeep pickup trucks. Lost my job and the trucks. Seeing yours hurts my heart that I lost my trucks. They were both split windshield one was 1958 one was 1959. I still have a few parts.

Excellent! Many, many years ago I helped my dad and his hunting buddy get the 6 cylinder engine out of crashed Willys. The engine was installed in the hunters Willys and it ran for year as far as I know..
50+ years ago my father in law and four of his hunting buddies came across a late 1940 Willys wagon like yours in quite good condition. As the young hot rodder I was drafted into being the head mechanic to install a 283. Fit quite nicely biggest job was an adapter plate to match Willys bell housing to small block chev. To carry the heavier engine we rebuilt and recurved the front leaf springs. The thing drove like a tank with the heavy front end

I bought my 73 Scout from a family in La Luz New Mexico back in 1999. It had been sitting for 20 years in their backyard because the water pump failed and the fan ate the radiator. I didn't have a lot of money but some gentlemen from the Desert Mountain four wheel drive club pointed me to some parts Scouts and I had it running a driving (with no brakes) in 24 hours. I drove it to work on the Air Force base for several years after that and took it 4 wheeling until I was sent to Asia. While I was gone someone stole some parts off of it and messed it up, now it's sitting in the shed by the shop waiting for me to get to working on it again.
One of the joys of small town life...gotta drive long distances for every activity! I have some buddies in panguitch that have to do the same thing every time. It’d be worth it in my opinion. Great burnout btw, that was awesome lol.
boy does that bring back memories i bought a 1959 willies wagon in 1975 for $100.00 it had a flat head super hurrican6 flat head 6 cylinder engine with a center mount winch boy was that fun top speed was 50 miles an hour
I despise those no spill safety nozzles on modern fuel cans. I toss em get the "water jug" spout replacement kits from either ebay or amazon. I can only imagine the fresh hell it must be to use a no spill gas can in combination with the shewee of a capless gas tank.

I saw it on the rack, guess Michelle's car had to go to Jiffy Lube for service! LOL. Your channel certainly promotes good values, junk is not junk until it has eroded away to nothing. Most importantly; Good times are most enjoyed when they are shared with good friends and family!
you could put that jug on the base of the windshield and not even need a fuel pump.. that thing brings back memories of riding through the nj pine barrens in the jeeps my dad had when I was little, Im a few years older than your jeep...

It's not Willy's, it's pronounced like Willis. Willys is a name and everyone seems to mispronounce it.

I miss those days. My son is 33 and daughter is 28. Enjoy those years with your kids. Life is good. GaMike

Fryburger, and Dolcheck would proud of you guys. That is some serious RoadKill Garage vehicle!
Brings back memories, my dad had an old 2 door. The doors were mounted on a slide I think. This old wagon brings back lots of memories!
When is Superhero Dar's ride going to be finished?
I saw it on the rack, guess Michelle's car had to go to Jiffy Lube for service! LOL.
Your channel certainly promotes good values, junk is not junk until it has eroded away to nothing.
Most importantly; Good times are most enjoyed when they are shared with good friends and family!
Thanks for the kind words!
Thanks for the fun video guys!
CONGRATULATIONS on your TH-cam achievements guys. Big fan!
you could put that jug on the base of the windshield and not even need a fuel pump.. that thing brings back memories of riding through the nj pine barrens in the jeeps my dad had when I was little, Im a few years older than your jeep...
Kids being giddy checking out their new toy that's what it is. GIDDY!! Hehehehehe dang it Paul, how I envy you guys right now. "Open the door we don't wanna buy another door" LOLOLOLOL!!
I sold my FC chassis to some one in Salt lake. It had the OD unit that only ran to the rear axle .. My brother had the Warn unit that worked in 4 wheel drive and 2 wheel drive.
Great another video whilst I am stuck in the snow.
Thanks Fab Rats!! ;)
Edit: This video made me smile the whole way!!
There’s nothing like the excitement of getting something fired up for the first time the way you found it. Looks like fun.
