    Great stuff, I've been looking forward to getting one myself.
    Proof that it fits well with synthesizers!

    I noticed a gap in youtube in this area. Well done for finding it!!!

    This sounds so cool!!’ I play guitar and have the RE-20. Possibly sell it and buy the 202. But, I want to take piano/keyboard lessons in the future. It sounds soo Moroder in this way 😎😁

    I'm a little disappointed they didn't put a Peak indicator on this model,
    - but I'm still gonna buy it.
    I still really like the RE-20, which I only bought last year, while getting my RE-301 serviced, - other than testing the 301 upon return, I've stuck with the RE-20 instead. It's definitely a keeper.
    I know a lot people say the RE-20 doesn't capture the magic of the real device, but it's still a great effect for the money, and I doubt many could tell the difference once it's in a mix. The RE-202 is therefore a no-brainer, - I too will also miss the tape speed strobe indicator.

      I find the RE-20 to be a good delay if you don't expect it to sound like a real space echo

    Thanks for this! Been looking for more demos of RE-202 with synths. Sounds very good. Trying to decide if it brings something to the table that I can't get from Volante, and... Yeah, it kinda sounds like it does.

    • @GNeuman
      @GNeuman 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      This is *very* different sounding from the Volante. Go on, treat yourself. You know you want to.... 👍👍👍

    • @NickHchaos

      I’d go with a strymon starlab, the cv control is something that no pedal will give you, really opens up entirely new worlds. Otherwise if I’m buying something big and chunky, I go with real analogue-echofix tape echo

    • @larrymonteleone1789

    • @larrymonteleone1789
      @larrymonteleone1789 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@NickHchaos echofix tape echo is way too expensive for what you get, and I was told it doesn't self oscillate, I could be wrong about that tho

    • @NickHchaos
      @NickHchaos 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@larrymonteleone1789 nope. It’s worth every penny. It sounds beautiful, is a joy to use, and is well built. I couldn’t be happier, I just used it prominently on a film score.

    It doesn't really convince me. Still too 2d and the repeats are not present enough. They sound kind of flat. The saturation isn't convincing either.
    Imo Boss/Roland should stop with trying to recreate their old stuff, and instead use the past as inspiration to create new stuff.
    All this trying to emulate old stuff becomes too cheesy and not very authentic.
    Sorry to sound like a sour elitist. It's just, most of the times it's like this. It happens very rarely that an emulation is bang on. I don't get why companies don't give it a completely different and new design that doesn't hint to the original at all, while still being pleasing to the eye (not like Aira stuff. And being inspired by old designs without hinting to anything specific would also be a good thing). Because when companies miss the mark as with most stuff, it just ends up becoming cheesy like someone trying too hard to be someone specific, but failing because they're not just being themselves. Like they're not being authentic.
    I don't mind recreations like the Wazacraft series. That's something totally different.
    What I'd like to see from Roland/Boss instead would've been something like an actual tape delay with a completely different name and design than the Space Echo series. And it doesn't have to be made in the same way as those either. Come up with something new. If T-Rex can do it, then so can Roland/Boss most definetly as well.

    • @GNeuman
      @GNeuman 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, you do sound like a sour elitist, lol.Just kidding....I've owned all three plus the el capistan, timeline and volante, this latest offering from Boss nails the original, espc the reverb, but if you can hear the difference through TH-cam's compression then you're ears are excellent...
      There is an Australian guy who has produced an RE-201 clone, of course at a boutique price.
      I don't see Roland resurrecting this kind of technology though...

      @@GNeuman hahaha I sure do 😄 Hate when that happens 😅
      I don't mind digital technology. I enjoy using software. My favorite delay plugins are FreqEcho, Sigmund and the basic Delay from Ableton Live.
      In hardware I've owned El Capistan, Volante, Flashback, MS-50G and Tape Core Deluxe in regards to digital. They're all great in their own way. El Capistan and MS-50G were my favorites.
      El Capistan I actually liked better than T-Rex Replicator Jr D'luxe.
      In regards to TH-cam compression. It doesn't make any sense to draw that card, becsuse everything in comparison are demoed through TH-cam compression. so it's all fair. And I've never got surprised by the sound when getting an actual unit. Always sounds as expected to me.

      I went that route some time ago. The old machines require maintenance, keeping fresh tapes, and a place to put the big heavy thing. They sound good?...yes, but I'm over it. These pedals do really well.

    Back in the 80's I had two RE-301 chorus echos. I preferred the ability of being able to eliminate the dry signals and use the effects just for the wet. I't nice to know that there's a function that would allow this.

    Great video, many thanks. I'm interested in your views on integrating it via a mixer's send/return like you have here, especially with regard to levels. The manual says the maximum input and output level is +7dBu, which worries me. Did you have any clipping issues and have to turn down your send level (and gain up the return), or did it "just work" without any issues?

    • @gstormelectro
      @gstormelectro  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      it works fine no worries, just watch the input gain level pot on your mixer. On my Mackie I can solo the channel pre-fader (post input gain) to make sure it doesn't clip.

      @harrisonfraud 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@gstormelectro Thanks, appreciate your input. So you didn't have to watch your send levels at all, just the input gain on the return?
