This is terrific. Thank you Marc and Jason. Such humility from Jason. Yes, Marc takes 10-15 min to get on board.

Southeastern is probably the most influential, IMO, alt-country/Americana record of all time. I grew up listening to a lot of Chris Knight, Cash, Twitty, hell even DBT’s ‘n Sloberbone…but mainly Elliott Smith. Prob add some Conor Oberst, Leonard Cohen, Iron and Wine but for the most part Elliott Smith. Don’t get me wrong Chris Knight/Cash/Twitty (especially Knight) have an argument that they have written some of the best if not the best discography of country songs ever. Southeastern though helped me realize that just because I sang with a southern accent didn’t mean I had to write with only G, C, and D as a singer/songwriter that played country or and alt form of it. That I could add my own elements of indie. As a singer/songwriter also originally from north Alabama (Was raised in Ga tho) as well as working on my first album… I hate to say it cause every musician wants their new stuff to be their best but this album is just perfect. In my top 3/5 albums of all time. His other albums are fantastic as he is undoubtedly one of the best songwriters out there currently. Reunions has a few songs that’ll make a Georgia man cry on the shoulder of someone’s Saturday night but this album…… perfection.

JTE dated Jason's wife Amanda Shires before Jason did. Jason and JTE never did make up or speak before Justin died but it wasn't bc of that. Im not certain what the issue was

I saw Shires posted a picture of JTE on Twitter on the anniversary of his death a few months ago. I never knew they dated.

Did this guy really just ask Jason "Did you have trucks?" Like they don't exist anywhere else. I'm 18min in and already I hate this interviewer.

Yup, the truck thing was lazy, but Marc typically is a great conversationalist. Nice that Jason eased him by it so politely.
