Worth noting that due to the way digital sensors work, you're much better off underexposing than over. You can recover shadows quite easily, but blown highlights are blown and there's nothing you can do about them.

I have made so many of the same mistakes it's incredible. I really dislike finding myself in the video particularly if I am looking down at the controller. Thanks for the video. I need to watch it a few times to insure I don't keep making these mistakes.
Yes, I'm with you there! There's a lot more to successful drone videography than meets the eye. It's a steep learning curve for me. I now have a huge respect for decent drone filming when I see it in movies. I have become an armchair 'expert'. I wish that would transfer to my own drone use, lol!

Thanks for the tips! I actually turned my gimbal speed up because I like to sometimes tilt down onto a subject as I fly over it, and it wasn't fast enough at the end to keep up. I just use a soft touch easing in and out of it too keep it smooth.

Excellent Matthew thanks. I've made those errors and hopefully have improved over the year since I got my first drone (DJI Mini 3 Pro). Initially (and still sometimes) do the cutting of ends and starts to get rid of those issues. Re-watching your videos is something I enjoy and find educational...I have a memory like a goldfish so it's great to find those tips all over again! Lol! Thanks again from and aging drone pilot.

Very good tips and tricks... I love the way you edit your videos. Watching your screen recording of the controller, I was expecting that you would address the "Storage Full" message... Forgetting to bring a spare SD card with you is another rookie drone mistake.. 😜 Looking forward to the next one! 🔥🙌🔥
haha! Thank you! Good spot. It was the internal drone storage that was full causing that message, but I am guilty of forgetting to bring a spare Micro SD card in the past!
Haha ! This morning I left my drone's card at home for the first time. Glad I had adopted your tip of having one spare in the RC . Even though it warned me it was a slow card it seemed to do the job: I'll check in a minute.@@TheDroneCreative

Exactly! So it's not just me then, lol! I find I'm still slightly overawed by the responsibility of flying mine safely so it's hard to concentrate on the 'style' side of things. Excellent advices. But regarding the over or under exposure, please indicate how to make a proper adjustment. Just by contact on the scale that appears on the screen? Not sure!

Hey! Sorry for the off topic drone question. But you're obviously in Northern Ireland! I was just wondering if you've managed to declassify your drone since the new firmware update? Does the prompt show up on the RC screen if you cross the boarder down into Ireland? I know it doesnt show if you're in the UK. Thanks in advance!!
I got the genious idea of concealing my remote inside of a zippered jacket while hanging on a lanyard, and pulled it out the bottom for quick discreet hiding and control.
Don't ever do this, even witn a remote cover. My jacket snagged the right stick one time and it tried to fly away at full speed on takeoff. Luckily I was hand launching, so I was able to catch and flip it for a gyro shutdown and no damage.

Guilty! But I have used the RC-by-my-opposite-side trick. I have a reasonable poachers(map?) pocket in my fleece, so I've even popped it in there in quiet locations only.
I use a neck strap - once it’s following me, I can let go of the controller and it just hangs there, and I can grab it back if I need to check that it’s still following me. Works best if you have a jacket on and you can zip your jacket over it.
Nice. Yes, I've considered buying one but delayed due to wondering whether I would actually use it. But I can see that idea of letting it dangle inside a jacket being a reason to get one.@@PaulTomblin

I have mini 4 pro, when I try my drone fly up high the obstacle avoidance still beeps sounds while on high, this is happening on the right side and down ward and there is no obstacle, are you experiencing that in your mini 4 pro?
Make sure the camera sensers are clean. A smudge on the lens could be triggering the obstacle avoidance

Mattheww, you are a national treasure. You're an excellent teacher and an inspiration. After watching this video, I've decided my biggest drone mistake is not living on the beautiful coast of Scotland. How far do you have to travel from your home to reach such a gorgeous destination? For me, if I wanted scenery like this, it would be a 30 hour drive. 😞

Matthew I have a pressing (for me) question and you are the most knowledgeable drone guy out there.
Waypoint missions and POI's:
When setting a waypoint course heading to [face the POI] the gimbal setting also automatically sets to [face the POI] as well. There is a manual override by going in one more layer on the gimbal settings and the ability to select staying with [face the POI] or manual or custom. I have played with all of the settings and I have the best results with manual but manual defeats the purpose for most waypoint missions.
DJI has a video on waypoints and they highlight something they call "POI Drift" using waypoint settings. I tried following the example exactly and when the time comes for the gimbal to point at the POI it does not do it. The gimbal stays fixed level with the horizon.

In Australia, walking with a drone controller in your hand without looking at it, is illegal flying

Australian law says lyou must have line of sight of your drone, meaning there can't be an obstacle blocking the view of your drone doesn't say you have to have your drone in eyesight at all times.
So is doing 1km/hr over the speed limit whilst driving…. If you’re not flying like an idiot and being safe then go for gold
It might not be a “mistake” if that is what we want to capture or how we want to record it. Would it? Not everything is or will be made to monetize or impress rather for personal enjoyment of the entire location. Thanks for the video. 😉🤘🏾
