I hate when I discover a band that I REALLY like and then I found out the lead singer passed away. RIP Pat. Its a bummer I'll never get to hear you live, but thank you for your music.
People say they weren't big, but they were big enough to tour Australia in the 80s, when I was lucky enough to see them - & I was a broke teenage Mom without a car & the gig was MILES away on the posh northern beaches of Sydney
I know these guys, and they are most excellent dudes who never received their just desserts. In other words, they should have been HUGE. Rest in peace, Pat. You were awesome and always so kind to me. Thank you.
I love that well-placed "Oh, no," near the end there. It's perfect little details like this that truly make The Smithereens a unique and high-level band.
Besides having a singularly unique voice Pat DiNizio was a consummate song writer, arranger and "The Soul" of this outstanding no frills, roots Rock 'n Roll band, RIP Pat, Your band mates and tens of 1000's of YOUR FANS...Miss YOU!🏁🏁🏁🏁🏁 (5 out of 5!)
I get the blues before and after when I think how little respect these guys got when they were doing some of there magic although the album 11 did go gold largely because of the song " a girl like you". We will forever miss you Pat and the rest of you 3 musketeers. You guys were and will forever remain great. Pitty I just never got to see you guys live.!! Maybe when I meet you in heaven.
Normally I'd say these guys were underrated but if you REALLY know music, you'd know these guys were just solid and made the music they did for their base. They never struck me as the type that wanted to be labeled "rock stars". They were comfortable in their own (rocking) skin and that's why I'll always think of them as great.
Only one of my favorite bands of all time have every album saw one concert NYS Fair know every song by heart played my drums a thousand times,, Pat should still be with us.....!
I Love your commitment...A True Fan... Hats off to you Sir! Pat is sorely missed by his band mates and the tens of 1000's (or more) of loyal Smithereens FANS.
Got to see them in 2016. One of the rare shows out west. The played a casino in Colorado. He was not looking good and had an 02 tank on stage. The show was fantastic.RIP Pat.
Always dug these guys. Bought all their Albums up to 11. Then kind of fell off. My girlfriend at the time was really into them. Saw them live opening for (can’t remember) around 1989. RIP Mr. DiNizio. You had a great, and defining voice.
There is nothing like a good q&a song, and this is a perfect example. I got to cover these guys in a band I was in, and I love playing and listening to their work. Rip Pat!
I remember watching the videos for this song and A Girl Like You back in about '86 when I was in high school. I always thought they were a very underrated band who should have gotten much more love than they did.
@@bobthebear1246 Yes, The Original Frank Sinatra as 'Danny Ocean,' Ocean's 11. Not the trivial knock off sequels remade for a "Quick Hollywood Buck" in the 2000's You can't beat "The Original Rat Pack", they were the real deal Hep Cats, 'A ringa, ding, ding...Baby.'
funny thing about that is that nirvana had this tape with one side smithereens and the other side metal band celtic frost.nirvana got their guitar sound from listening to celtic frost
The Smithereens are a criminally underrated band.
Everyone I know thinks they're one of the Top NJ bands of all time so maybe you should associate yourself with more knowledgeable people
I hate when I discover a band that I REALLY like and then I found out the lead singer passed away. RIP Pat. Its a bummer I'll never get to hear you live, but thank you for your music.
You did miss a great band

Fortunately The Smithereens are still touring with Marshall Crenshaw filling in for Pat on vocals.
@@BernieTime1 Saw them a couple of weeks ago in a fest here in Illinois and Marshall Crenshaw was incredible. Rest in Heaven Pat you are missed.
Yes Brother . i HEAR you . They had killer tracks . Not just a few either . Salute . ( Put em on and turn it up )
R.I.P. Pat DiNizio. Truly a great guy and a very talented singer, songwriter and guitarist.
Under appreciated, rock solid band.
I know these guys, and they are most excellent dudes who never received their just desserts. In other words, they should have been HUGE. Rest in peace, Pat. You were awesome and always so kind to me. Thank you.
The Village Green in Hillsboro, NJ loves the Smithereens.
I never forget this band.
Yeah I really enjoyed them back in the day, but looking back, I see that thier dad-rock look didn't help them marketing-wise.
I love this song
Hell yeah! Very approachable and underrated!!
This band is entertaining as hell live. Up there with Iggy & The Ramones. This band goes to 11 for real!
Speak the truth!! They were the best
Saw them in 1991 Metro Park by the St. Johns river sunny day, they killed it. Had a blast !
How about Echo & the Bunnymen or Elvis Costello?
What's not to love about this song, but let me point out something......it's actually about 100X better than you think it is. Brilliant.
Well yes Sir . You know it . You play their music after a break of a year or two , and it is 1000x .......
These guys were awesome serious tight rhythm section great crafted songs 😎
I love that well-placed "Oh, no," near the end there. It's perfect little details like this that truly make The Smithereens a unique and high-level band.

So darn good.
RiP Pat.
In a just world, this band should have been HUGE!
Just rediscovered this one. What a jam. Glad my speakers go to 11
RIP Pat. You will be sorely missed sir. #TheSmithereens
The best use of a Rickenbacker guitar.
After an appearance on David Letterman's show I fell in love with this great band and bought all their recordings!
One of the greatest bands ever, IMO.
11 was THE album of 1990 for me.
Remembering Pat DiNizio on his Birthday, October 11, 2021

Amen Brother!
They were always such a cool band
This is music
Love the Jersey sound!!!! Excellent Jersey band. Not commercialized like some of the bigger bands out of Jersey.I think this band blows em away!!!!
Kick Ass Song You Never Hear!
I still dig the hell out of this band !!
That is a HEAVY guitar. Love it.
Agreed! JIm Babjak is one of my favorite Leads. And there's a lot of 'em to be considered.
Love the Rickenbackers.
These guys should have been huger than huge! This is great, straight-up rock & roll.
They were pretty big for a while in MTV heyday. Girl Like You was played in heavy rotation
They are just real New Jersey regular guys who could make awesome music. They stood the test of time. Most bands cannot say that.
Normally I'd say these guys were underrated but if you REALLY know music, you'd know these guys were just solid and made the music they did for their base. They never struck me as the type that wanted to be labeled "rock stars". They were comfortable in their own (rocking) skin and that's why I'll always think of them as great.
David saw this - yes
Fans of Pat, Jimmy and the boys, all know who Jersey's BEST rock band is/was...no, it's not the guy with rolled up sleeves on his T-shirt.
they weren't the "pretty/flashy" band & didnt give in to corporate music making
Very badass band that many didn't know about....rip Pat D.
I had forgotten this cool song blues before and after
I saw them at the Tower Theater in Philadelphia 10 rows from the stage they really blew the audience away rest in peace Pat
one of the best live bands ever
Seeing them live up close is a treat
Total rocking. Saw them in a bar in early 80’s. We rocked hard
I LOVE this song. Awesome running bass line, really great jam.
The bass kicks on this one
One of my all time favorite bands.
These guys were most excellent.

Such a beautifully devilishly great tune
Superunderated, great rock band! They definitely need to be in the RRHOF!
really love the guitar sound these guys had
Got to see them in 2016. One of the rare shows out west. The played a casino in Colorado. He was not looking good and had an 02 tank on stage. The show was fantastic.RIP Pat.
I get the same old story almost every day!!!
Sometimes during.

What an awsome fucking song!!!
Only 1.4k likes? That gives me the blues. Great tune, I think I even like it more than their more mainstream songs. RIP Pat 🤘🏼⚘💕
One of their best for sure but there are so many
Grrrrrrreat Song!!!!
Love the "dirty guitar". Even now so many years from when it first debuted.
Great track!
There is nothing like a good q&a song, and this is a perfect example. I got to cover these guys in a band I was in, and I love playing and listening to their work. Rip Pat!
Jersey LEGENDS ♠️♠️♠️
I remember watching the videos for this song and A Girl Like You back in about '86 when I was in high school. I always thought they were a very underrated band who should have gotten much more love than they did.
Not too many bands have a TRULY instantly recognizable sound. The Smithereens did. They were awesome.
Great video and song!!!
Can't possibly ever be loud enough....
I can’t stop rewinding
Smithereens 11 came out when I was entering college, and I got to see them give a free show at UF in '91. Thanks for the memories!
Still Rocken 2021
These guys are great. Always wanted to see them live.
Woooohhhh
Love it!
Smithereens used to come to here to milwaukee alot
Got -"11" out for a spin for the first time in many years........& this song sounded just as awesome to me as it did back in '89......
all your songs rock, I love it
Great song!
This tune rocks. I like it more than "A Girl Like You", which was actually a bigger hit.
Much better although Girl Like You got them the MTV exposure
Never quite figured why they called an album "11" with only 10 songs. Dug this album back in the day. RIP Pat. Thx for the memories.
It was in reference to Ocean's 11.
"These go to eleven" - Nigel Tufnel

These guys are great !!! was listening to these guys 30 years ago....why i stopped I dont know......must have had a brain fart!!!
Oh yes, this WAS true long ago S.A.G.M. !!!
NOW it's ONLY Your memory 😘
The one and only the smithereens many great hits takes me very far back to a happy teenhood.
I remember seeing SOUNDGARDEN @ The Reseda Country Club with Prong & Voivod…absolutely Mind-Blowing…
Saw them in Biloxi, MS. Great show 1998?
New Jersey represent!
Rest in Peace, Pat
3:23 gem piece of rock & roll
The story of my life.
A sad truth for a lot of us, wynston.
I wish the whole album sounded like the first two songs. I think this band would have been huge if they did.
Hell yeah.. smithereens rules 2thumbs up...
awesome
i love this song...this band was awesome...i hate grunge but cobain said they listened to this as inspiration (fuzzy heroin guitars). peace out!
funny thing about that is that nirvana had this tape with one side smithereens and the other side metal band celtic frost.nirvana got their guitar sound from listening to celtic frost
Kurt loved "Green Thoughts" and with good reason. That album is fucking stellar, man.
That's courtesy of 'The Man' Jim Babjak and his "Chainsaw Rickenbacker." He had that sound perfected.
Tell Tom Petty and the rest of the All Star Band in the afterlife I said Hi,
RIP Pat Dinizio
Noice!
Kick-ass!
Cool song...
@Anonmius00 The audio starts at :09 - that's the way the video is.

LMAO!!! Good one, Amy!
Huh?
Mike Poston Look at the tie Dennis is wearing at 0:06, 1:47, 2:05, and especially 2:46, etc.
Bad ass Jersey band. Kurt Cobain said they listened to this whilst recording one of their albums (fuzzy guitar)
Only half the band is Jersey the other is from Strong Island!!! 💪
