  • ( www.TFLcar.com ) The 2016 Chevy Malibu is all new and ready to take on all competitors according to GM. Where the old car was jumpy the new car is low lean and sexy as Roman Mica recently found out in this TFLcar 2016 Chevy Malibu first drive review.

    Why is everyone saying that they dislike the front end? It's like the best feature of this car! It's sexy as hell!

      +WuWei Xu I also like it's looks, but the rear end is nothing to write home about. It doesn't seem to fit in with the rest of the exterior. As they met up in the back, the roof line and creased sides sort of fed into and dictated how the tail lights would be shaped. Not the best result.

    Quite a nice car. Funny how they're using "premier" as a trim level which is what Mercury used to use

      I think Chevy should have used something like "LTZ". "Premier" sounds too elderly.

    First off for all the haters, you're not relevant. If you never driven one, owned one, wanted one your opinion holds totally no merit or what-so-ever.
    That being said, i bought in 2014 a brand new Chevy Cruze LT, which i absolutely loved! I really did, good little 4 door but it proven anemic when my family was loaded up and we were going somewhere with the 1.8 turbo eco i had in it. However, i traded it in a year later for the 2015 Malibu LT and i never regretted it one bit. It's a fantastic car, and proven very dear to me i have the one with the 2.5L 200HP which is more then enough for my commuting purposes.
    I really do not understand the hate for this particular line of cars? I mean did you guys see the 90ts Malibu i mean it was a barbie doll vehicle. Which i totally was not interested in let alone i would ever bought one. But now in this era?! I think Chevrolet is doing a really good job in catching up with the consumers demand. Most of you youngsters never had a REAL old car that had nothing exciting in it. I see kids these days 16 years old with their braces and attitude bitch about their car. While they drive a car i could only DREAM of on that age!
    Stop being so ungrateful and self entitled, you do not have to like what someone else feels is right for them. I got always very positive comments on my car(s) i take good care of them. They are always clean and i keep them in my garage. I also got a 20 year old s10 Chevrolet truck which is drive the most and with much pleasure. And a 2012 Mustang, now i see already people here comment "WOW bro showing off" no not at all. It's to show i got choice and a very broad taste in what i buy/own.
    My point is, stop the hate...go to a dealer and drive one. Enjoy it, or then HATE IT and avoid it and move on already!
    I drove the new 2016, while mine was being serviced. The new 2016 Malibu, to me it's a fantastic car and it clearly is styled after the Impala which i find the best Chevrolet has to offer. IF it comes to a full-size sedan, the comment here "It looks stupid as fuck" you seriously cannot for a moment believe you're worth a discussion right? If that is ALL you can come-up with it makes you look like a clown.
    I will not part from my 2015 i love my car and i am proud that i was able to afford one when i could. I drove much, much worse trust me. I find for the new 2016 the 34k price tag a tad high (as you can get a very low mileage Impala for that of the lot) and sorry for the long rant you guys.
    But stop raining on other people parade (which i see happening here in the comment section) , especially when you never ever tried/drove one yourself. It makes you look very childish and totally laughable. In the end of it all, nobody gives a damn what i like or drive right?! This is vice vera too, your choices are not mine this is what makes us human !

    just rented one of these via free upgrade for a family vacation, this car is big! and what a great car...loved the start stop feature and the push button start, very good gas mileage once i figured out the ac has an eco mode and the back up cam is great...what i didnt like was the radio,it has no dials and is difficult to use even after you get used to it and the speed sensitive steering was very noticeable where as the ford explorer we rented two years ago had it and i didnt notice until i got back into my truck and nearly plowed into a car in a parking lot...the fact that its front wheel drive reared its ugly head when you have to pull out in traffic and that one front tire would start to scream...the car i rented had like 1200 miles on it but it still had a rattle in the front right that sounded just like the old s10 ball joint noise

    Really excited to see how this car really reviews. Hopefully you guys will be able to test the 1.5 since that'll likely be the sales leader for the Malibu. But from this, i'm going to say the car as a whole is going to get some great reviews overall. The front end is growing on me, especially in dark colors.

    This look great! I think I would like the DRL LEDs to be in the main headlight cluster instead though. It is also good to see that they increased the size of the back seat. Chevy's new cars seem to be pretty reliable as well so this should be a good buy.

    Was high on my list of considerations. It took too long to get to the dealerships (still haven't seen one), can't get a manual (yea, I'm old school) and I have my reservations about the engines. Ultimately I went with a 2016 Honda Accord EX 2.4 with a 6 speed manual. I'm glad I did!

    I actually liked the outgoing Malibu in style and function (depending on trim level) kind of a bigger version of my 2013 Cruze 2LT which I really like. I do however agree that it is much longer, leaner, and sexier than the outgoing predecessor and upgraded on the inside as well with better tech and comfort. Yes it took some styling cues from the vastly improved 2014.5-2016, but they are not really the same. The Impala has one BIG chevron like grille from the Camaro and the Malibu has a two part grille with a more slender chevron and shield/badge look from the previous model with some nice lines. I do recommend the 2.0L over the 1.5L. Turbo I4 for sure.

    I'm excited to see how it stacks up against the Fusion (presuming it's a comparable model, of course, and not just the base version). The Fusion is currently sitting solidly at the top of my list for my next car. I'm excited to see how the Malibu stacks up!

      +Kcducttaper1 I just picked up a 2016 Fusion SE 2.0 last week and love it. My only complaint is heavy torque steer when jumping on the gas. Got it for $25.5 including TTL & registration. Paid cash.

      Nice! I've heard pretty much nothing but good things about them and I really liked the one I test drove after shopping around to see what everyone else had. At the time, the current Malibu just wasn't up to par, but I'm curious to see what all they've done this time around. Cash is the way to go! I didn't notice a whole lot of torque-steer though (and I did drive the 2.0L), just a little bit. Is yours just FWD, or AWD?

    • @canddmeyer
      @canddmeyer 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Kcducttaper1 Mine is FWD. The torque steer is more prominent in D mode, less so in S mode. I guess this is because the rpm's are slightly elevated in S mode. I'm not totally jumping on it, but giving it just enough pedal for more than one automatic gear downshift. The roads where I live are worn, and I'm positive road irregularities contribute to the steering correction required by the torque steer. Like most, I usually drive one-handed, but driving with both hands on the wheel when jumping on it makes the torque steer much easier to deal with. I'm still adjusting to the vehicle, and like any vehicle they all drive differently. My current vehicle is an AWD 4Runner and the torque steer is dialed out, you'll never feel any. The weight to HP ratio is about 18:1. But the Fusion weight to HP ratio is around 14.5:1 and torque is more pronounced.One thing I've noticed is a slight turbo lag in D mode that is hardly noticeable in S mode. I switch modes every other drive so as to run at different rpm's for engine break-in. This isn't a requirement, but rather my personal preference. Also, living @ 2000ft elevation, the turbo scoots whereas my NA (normally aspirated) 4Runner motor feels a tad winded.Anyway, happy shopping, but wait for the sales. Mine was 26% off MSRP. I hadn't even considered a Fusion before the no-haggle November pricing came out. My deal was better than the no-haggle price as lucky for the me the vehicle I was going to purchase was sold the day before, so I was offered a killer deal if I bought a more equipped car. SOLD.

    • @bradh716
      @bradh716 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +zip89105 You got a great deal. I got a 1.5 Fusion for about the same price about a month ago (right before the new incentives came out) :-( My 1.5 has no noticeable torque steer.

    • @canddmeyer
      @canddmeyer 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +bradh716 I feel very lucky. Still on my first tank of fuel and mpg is great for the highway but horrible for city driving. Just made a 90 minute mostly highway trip and thank you for SXM in the boonies. No torque steer at highway speeds, so I guess that's a slower speed city driving happenstance I'll need to get used to. I'll have to consult the owners manual as I believe the windshield rearview mirror is defective as it distorts vehicles making them look flatter when I'm looking to see who's behind me. I'd like to believe it wasn't designed that way. The rear glass is fine. Otherwise, I'm still learning my new car. :-)

      +camaro_ boy_z28 The chief complaint about the outgoing Malibu was the lack of room (especially in the back seat) and the groaning engine. Most reviewers haven't had much good to say about the outgoing Malibu when compared to its competition, it's consistently been ranked the worst in the midsize class.

      +mrvwbug44 Not true at all. Consumer Reports ranked it as or nearly as highly as its strongest competitors, depending on the model.

    Did you get a chance to test the 1.5L turbo version yet? That is the version that most people are going to buy (LT is usually Chevy's volume trim level). Also surprised that they didn't use the 8 speed auto with the 1.5L as that would have boosted the fuel economy nicely (and the performance with such a small engine).

    • @General_M
      @General_M 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      It will probably trickle down in a later model year. Just like the 2010 model had the 4 speed on only the base model, and the 2011 had the 6 speed across the board.

    • @evanganske9240
      @evanganske9240 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      The 1.6t I4 will be the standard engine. Making 163HP and 184LB-FT while achieving 27 City and 37 Highway. It will be out as soon as soon as the Malibu goes on sale, but for now, it looks like the tester models will be Premier's with the 2.0t I4. Expect 1.6t (L, LS, & LT) reviews to be out in a month or two. Meanwhile, the 1.8L Hybrid model will probably not show its face for testing until the current ongoing research and development is finished, so we may have to wait five to six months.

      +The Fast Lane Car And less backseat room, too. Skimpy enough to draw complaints, and rightly so; this is supposed to be a family sedan. Yet you still have people out there with car enthusiast magazine mentalities who get bent out of shape when a Malibu is not a Camaro.

    • @evanganske9240

      Actually, the 2014-2015 Malibu's had an upgraded 2.0t I4 with 259HP and 295LB-FT. But the new 2.0t I4 in the 2016 was designed for better response, fuel economy, and reliability. You have a faster shifting 8-Speed Automatic too! Plus since the new Malibu is 300lbs lighter, it will help with acceleration. There is no reason why 0-60 should be over 6 seconds.

  • @ssr1680
