- Third Age Total War Gameplay - The Dunedains were marching to Rivendell and lead by their supreme Commander, Isildur. This man proved himself to be worthy of caring the ring by slaying Sauron. He left the majority of his army after the War of the Last Alliance and only his personnal elite guards.
But the spirit of the dark lord remained in the ring and called upon the remnants of his fallen armies. The orcish bands assembled in the dark forest to ambush the young hero of the middle earth. Blinded by victory, Isildur wasn't aware of his surroundings and let his mens sings ans drink all night long.
At the morning when the rains was heavy and blocked the field of view of dunedains scouts, the silence of the forest awoke the presence of danger. Isildur knew that orcs were near and prepared his men to face the unstoppable force. They knew that they were outnumber and by far, at least 10 times.
The supreme command of dunedains orders one of his men to run and alarm the silvan elves who were established nearby to come and rescue them. Or will they only find the corpses of the fallen knights...

So from the historical point of view, Isildur is marching back home with about 200-300 Men. The Orcs do indeed ambush him, but with their superior skills, weapons and armor, Isildur's and his men keep the orcs at bay, even though they are outnumbered greatly. The Orcs attacked two or three times and probably would've retreated, but the Ring called to them and it drove them to keep fighting. The Orcs knew they couldn't fight the strong Men of the West, so they came up with a clever idea. In the last attack, two orcs would throw themselves on one man to crush and kill them, in this way Isildur lost all of his men, three of his sons died that way as well. Before his third son was killed, he told his father to use the Ring to get away. Isildur removed his armor and jumped into the river to escape. The ring slipped off of Isildur's finger and sunk to the bottom of the river. Isildur at first felt a great disturbance and he tried desperately to reach down and grab it, but couldn't reach it in time. As he swam back to the surface he felt a great relief come off of him. He waved through mud and marshes and emerged from the river. The Orcs had sentries placed along the river to kill anyone who tried to escape from the battle. They sniffed out the wayward Isildur, but though they saw Isildur, they were scarred as he appeared as a monster to them. The orc archers fired widley as they fled and pierced Isildur in the eye and chest or it was the throat and heart. And so he died and his remains laid at the banks of the Anduin near the Gladden. The Elves that came were Thranduil and his army from Mirkwood that destroyed the rest of the Orcs and sent them fleeing back. They then retrieved the bodies of the Men who fell, except for Isildur. Only two men survived though only one name is mentioned Ohtar and his companion were told by Isildur to flee to Rivendell with the shards of Narsil

id just like to point out to those of u questioning why i didnt send isildur to get the elves, the reason is becasue it was part of the rules i could only send the elite cav that wasnt isildur....

This was a really cool and fun battle replay to watch. Not only because of the tactics the peeps used but also because of the 'story' behind it and the fact that our very own Pixelated Apollo was commentating over it

I love the strategy, ambushing, and especially the incentivized mission objectives. Such a great watch! You could do something similar with the Fords of Isen where Gandalf has to contact and regroup dispersed companies of rohirrim as described in the Two Towers. Cavalry mayhem and clutch charges are never in excess

Seeing the orc bodyguard getting chased by elven archers after first charging them is pretty rich XD
Tbh this is what happened in the battle. The Dunedain were slain, but all the orcs killed by a relief force of Elves that arrived too late.
ik Isildur died in that battle, but even if it isn't historically accurate, I want him and the Dunedain to win XD

Technically the elves killed all the orcs so they could have searched the bodies and got the ring so your not thinking four dimensionally

yep, even if some orcs escaped with the ring, the elves would hunt them down without mercy long before the orcs get the ring to safety, Isildurs death might have been unfortunate and sad to the elves, but really the ring is the most important thing, and they wouldn't stop trying to secure it.
I mean, that wouldn't have been a good thing. Elves are just as susceptible to the temptation of the ring as men, as evidenced by Galadriel's temptation to take it and Elrond + Gandalf insisting Frodo never offer the ring to anyone. If elves had taken the ring, it never would have ended up being destroyed. And besides, JRR Tolkien himself said that no one could have thrown the ring into Mt. Doom, the temptation was too great. Even if the ring was returned to Elrond rather than stolen outright, and even IF Elrond managed to bring it back to Mt. Doom, he wouldn't have been able to throw it in. In the end, it would just be a powerful elf lord with a powerful tool. Luckily, the ring went missing in the end and ended up in the hands of a proto-hobbit, who would indirectly pass it on to a hobbit known as Bilbo Baggins.

Archangel17 Neither would be good, they would both enslave you and attempt to forge a dystopian world in their vision. This is all referenced in Galadriel's speech when she contemplates taking the ring, as well as Sam's thoughts when he briefly considers claiming the ring.
that last general death on the bridge was the RING falling into the river...

This mod is really amazing and the scenarios are really cool, love seeing battles with elven archers, I'd like to see a face off between elves and dwarves, elves have good archers but dwarven crossbows and heavy inf would do well against them

King Thranuel, legolas's father, did in fact pass this road just before the forces of Gondor was smashed. So elves to help didn't actually happen but if their rear guard was slow it may have changed things. love watching your videos
Those elves came from Rivendell where Isildur's son and wife were wating him.
isidur sent 1 Dunedain to seek help from Rivendell but the help came too late...Only corpses were found.That's the real story
I do not remember about his son and wife being in Rivendell but i do remember they were left behind. His esquire was sent to save the shards. If i am mistaken the book will set things right. Here is the portion about Thranuil. "The Dúnedain saw the Orcs but in the dim light their number could not be guessed, only that they were plainly many times, even to ten times outnumbered by them. Isildur realized that they were on their own: Moria and Lothlórien were far behind and Thranduil was four days' march ahead".

Hi there! Something i'd really like to see in third age is a historical battle series with reversed roles of good and bad, for example: Helm's Deep Uruks defend, Rohan attacks, Rhun's cavalry come to save the defenders and trolls come instead of Ents. At Minas Tirith you have orcs defending agains't the hordes of Gondor, with rhunic cav coming instead of rohan and elven archer cav instead of Mumakils, instead of the ghost army coming to save gondor you have a swarm of nazgûls/black nümenorians/mumakils coming as the last ditch effort to save the defenders. I think it would be really fun to see!!!!!
Problem is good faction's are way better then evil so your idea for minas tirith would be very predictable.
idk Unless the defending orc army was large as well and/or the gondor hordes were made up of lower tier units with a few stronger ones.
