By the year T.A. 1974 things were looking very grim for the Dúnedain of Arnor. The Great Plague three hundred years previously had killed most of the people of Cardolan which later fell to the Witch-king. And even with the aid of Elves and Hobbits most of the now diminished and totally demoralized people of Arnor were now waiting to make their final stand at Fornost, capital city of Arthedain.
But All hope is not lost..some of the allies of arnor have marched to the relief of the once great city..some elfves of Lindon, Rivendell, Lothlórien, and five hundred Hobbits archers from the Shire.
Can the King of the dwindling kingdom of arnor survive the night ...or shall the plans of the witchking ...stand triumphant!!!
Aftermath :
Not much is known of the battle, and it is simply stated that the Witch-king overran Fornost and the King was driven into the North Downs. The Witch-king's forces occupied Fornost and pillaged it.
With Arthedain in his hands, the Witch-king had conquered all of Arnor. Arvedui perished in the Icebay of Forochel when a ship sent to rescue him sank in a storm. The Witch-king took the throne in the king's palace, until a year later in T.A. 1975 when the forces of Eriador had regrouped with newly arrived reinforcements from Gondor. In the Battle of Fornost his army was destroyed, and he himself fled east over the Misty Mountains.
Fornost was not resettled after the war. It became a deserted place, feared by the men of Bree, who called it Deadmen's Dike. Not until a thousand years later after the War of the Ring under King Elessar was it refounded.

It was so frustrating watching the defenders just waste their elves and dwarves, they were trying to defend too much, if they just defended the 2nd and 3rd chokepoints, they couldve won.
Andi Tan It would have been so boring if they had done that though, because the front half of the brilliantly crafted map would have been wasted, and it would have just been a massive grind fest

Defenders snatched defeat from the jaws of victory here. Witnessing the inaction of the catapults when they had a solid mass of targets was more tense than watching the Helms Deep/Minas Tirith sieges in the films.

wrong. Black Numenorians are from have of Umbar which is south of Middle-earth. Angmar is in the north of Middle-earth. Armies were mostly comprised of orcs and evil men from Rhudaur(formely an Arnorian kingdom)

aragorns ancestor was Aranarth son of Arvedui the last king of Arnor and he indeed ascaped this battle with his father. but the father would drown soon in the icebay of Forochel afterwards and so Aranarth was the last of the royal dynasty left.

I just played my first medeval 2 seige battle it was epic :)
32:00 around there with my orc band, I got very bored and decided to have my orc band entertain me. We were all laughing at them- but my scouts did kill a few Anuminas knights, much to the rage of Synn. :D
I think your best move in this battle was moving that longbow on the opposite wall to the enemy archers and ballistas :D ..I did enjoy that move :D
+paladinbob 123 I think I saved around 200-400 men doing that, even the day. My favorite move by far overall was that last flank by Deluxe and also you pushing up those siege towers. Those two really stopped the art and arches from slaughtering my reserves. Overall, great ending!

yeah this was a nice fight....and a nicely narrated battle from Apollo :D..as per the note about the wargs [21:57] ...I believe wargs don't seem to be that great in hth and I also worried why they where not so hot in combat...but upon checking the replay myself found they where being shot by the hobbit archers[front wall] and the heavy arnor archer[upper town wall] and thus where destroyed by arrows :d ...thus I think the same fate of my trolls perhaps as well , so some nice crossfire there :D

Another great battle, though I think the defenders could indeed have held with better tactics, notably at the mountain choke point. Nice cycle charges though!
Nice Video but One Little Error the Plague killed Not so Many guys in Arthedain in Cardolan yes and gondor lost far more

I don't wanna nerd out too much, but basically the witch king subverted the hill men of Rhudaur (the weakest of the three northern kingdoms after the split of Arnor).
They're a bit like the wild men of Dunland I suppose.
Where do you get ladders? I am never able to see them when selecting my units.
When I heard "Hobbit Archers" I knew what the outcome was.
Siege of Fornost Erain wasnt involved with Dwarves and Men?In Battle for Middle Earth you were fighting with the Goblins attacking this fortress.The defenders were Dunedain i think also but sure Arnorians and Dwarves for some reason xD anyway good battle anyway and great commentary as always Apollo!
Actually Angmar had lot's of men under it's banner and not only from Rhudaur but also from Angmar, and no it's not black Numenoreans but native Hillmen to the lands of Angmar.
Surely there were no dwarves at that battle (I don't remember if elves were there so I canot tell the truth) about the hobbits they never arrived to Fornost, the Arnorians never experienced their arrival which probably means that they were caught by some Angmarim warband.
Still a very cool battle, would like to see more custom scenarios

Btw, I have a steam problem, I'm trying to reinstall Empire Total War back onto my computer, and It takes 16.5GB, It is telling me I dont have enough space, but I have about 20GB, can someone tell me the required amount for me not to get this error message?
just buy a new hard drive you can easily get one of 1 terabyte for just 30 euros

Hi there! Something i'd really like to see in third age is a historical battle series with reversed roles of good and bad, for example: Helm's Deep Uruks defend, Rohan attacks, Rhun's cavalry come to save the defenders and trolls come instead of Ents. At Minas Tirith you have orcs defending agains't the hordes of Gondor, with rhunic cav coming instead of rohan and elven archer cav instead of Mumakils, instead of the ghost army coming to save gondor you have a swarm of nazgûls/black nümenorians/mumakils coming as the last ditch effort to save the defenders. I think it would be really fun to see!!!!!

The long bowmen in the witchkings army would be the Black numenorean, evil man living at Carn dum.
I'm fairly certain there were few, if any, Black Numenoreans in Angmar, which was the kingdom the Witch King was king of. He mostly ruled over orcs and the men of Rhudar, who though descended from the men of Numenor were not technically Numernoreans.
+atreides213 the hillmen of Rhudaur were mixblood. part mountian tribes northern relatives of the dunlendings part arnorian but there were never black numenorians in angmar except the wichking and his fellow friends from Mordor and Umbar

Can anybody tell me if this battle map is somehow available in Divide and Conquer campaign map? When I fought at Fornost in my campaign, it was just a generic citadel, I dont get it
Also there was a succession struggle in Arnor that led to it splitting into the three kingdoms of Arthedain, Cardolan and Rhudaur. But the men of Rhudaur were more made up of wildmen and natives than Dunedain, which were most numerous in Arthedain. So the men of Rhudaur betrayed Arnor (what was left of it) and joined the Witch King, which explains the presence of a lot of men of Rhudaur. Not sure about the Dwarves though.

the men in the army was probably to signify Rhudar which was mostly destroyed by angmar. The Rhudar remaining helped angmar because of their hate towards arthedain and cardolan for giving them only the cold rocks of the north and small settlements.

I believe that the amount of humans in the witch-king’s army is because of one of the kingdom’s of Arnor became a vassal to Agnmar
Since the Witch King came from Angmar and not Mordor, it is actually pretty logical, that a lot of his forces consisted of humans. The men of Rhudaur and the Black Numenoreans had been fighting Arnor for a long time, and these were actually his elite forces. The rabble of goblins from Gundabad and the Misty Mountains were his meat shields.
What really m are me mad was the defenders just gave his archers up
