Not gonna lie. The defenders played insanely well in this battle. Just think about it, the attackers had 13867 troops. While the defenders had 2507. If the defenders were to win this one, they would have to take out about 5,5 enemies for every 1 soilder.
Väg Verket these battles are boring af because you know that the defenders are gonna loose!! The best defender in the world couldnt win against the worst attacker in the world in this battle. This really makes the video extremely boring to watch because there is no question about who is going to win
We could've killed more troops but the catapults just glitched out quite a few times when they were near a cliff or our own troops were right in front of us. But what could 2,5k brave men of Gondor do against 14k servants of the Dark Lord?
So that was about 13,700-ish troops vs. 2500 defenders. Attackers played very well and had roughly 5600 troops left after the battle. It seems like the only way for the defenders to win is to have much better luck with the artillery than they did here. Buffing up Gondor's army will only cause the choke point fights to go on longer because they can commit more troops, whereas decreasing the size of each attacking army somewhat shouldn't change that much unless they're nerfed too hard. I look forward to seeing this scenario again after some balance changes have been made!
NECROPOST(sorry) they could buff the ammo capacity of the defending archers? Its very simple to do in the game files, and would fit with the theme of a well stocked fortress

The Corsair army probably held off its attack until Mordor and Rhun armies got past that first defense point so that when they were passing by, the Corsairs could distract those Gondorian archers and catapults and keep them from continuing to pepper Mordor and Rhun to death. And once they reached a point where they could finish those Gondorians off, the rest of the Corsairs moved to join the main fight.
I really like when you comment things, like for instance the small story about the captain leading the ithilien rangers, the fact that they probably wanted him to die because they didn't want to be led by a snobish captain XD, great job as usual Pix !
A slow game isn't always bad, I learn things and improve my game from these videos. I think you should put together a series of videos that contain examples of good generalship and well implemented tactics and strategies. I would love to hear you commentating on those.

Wow, this is one of the best battles I've ever seen. It had so much connection to the Spartans and the Persians. One thing that could have turned the battle in Gondor's favour, was to sent most of their troops to the chokepoint were the battle started and send the rest of the troops to take out the Corsairs, but the battle however was awesome R.I.P Gondor, your epic stand will not be forgotten.
In medieval 2 if you're against a large force in a choke point they will win, the way to counter that is to hold the choke point with a V formation, then you'll rack up kills quickly.
7DestinedLegends This is true, if you've seen the Battle of the Five Armies (although shit) the elves formation against the dwarves is fantastic. I've used it in M2TW and it works really well.

what do you think about a giant open battle with all badies against good factions in huge units's size and properly equilibrated (enough orcs but not too much)
that one way part is called a hold out. its meant to draw an enemy and trap them so archers and siege engines can annihilate them while they try to find another way farther into a fortress.

I can play the standard Medieval 2 Total War version without Gamespy, but if I try to play an online battle with Third Age or any other mod, I have to create a Gamespy account... Hey Apollo you should do a top 10 list of all the battles you've had on your channel so far. If you can remember them all that is lol. I'm sure some probably stick in your mind.
Actually when your archers are out of Ammo,its a good idea to get them to the town sqare because you are just gonna have some infantry with your general at that final push.its smarter,same with your artillery crew.

At the end of the battle, on the battle results list, under the enemies killed column, what does the numbers within the parentheses represent? Is that like the number of troops that retreated off the map or something?
that represents those troops who surrendered...being that it would be unlikely that either side would take them as prisoners...add them to the casualty list ...so make the defenders kills around 9k :D
in this type of final stand, wouldnt it be better to have the trebuchet use standard shot instead of flaming, since it would give them more accuracy? i mean, yes, flaming shot kills more, but since most of the shots miss, does it really matter? if you could increase the amount of hits, that means more kills....but keep the catapults on flaming shot....they are accurate enuff with it
i have won 5v2..........but i had an army of elves spam archers and balista and was gondor with high tier units and catapults...worst unit i had was the pelagir marines and my ally managed to snipe 3 of the generals with archers and balista ....so yeah....very hard....but not impossible...there was lots of prayers and sacrifices to the RNG God

I know this doesn't matter but at the beginning you said that this is kinda like medieval times so travel using boats is fastest. Well now we have airplanes but still cheapiest way of transporting goods is by using ships. Just wanted to mention this fun fact(I feel like Ted Mosby now)
I think if the defenders just held up on that canyon chokepoint right before the castle walls with everything the had...placing catapults and archers on the hills and and infantry layered within the chokepoint possibly forming a horseshoe where it widened...allowing the enemy to amass their army within the plains it might have been enough. That rising that they couldn't get down from even if it went uncontended from the defenders might have been too far for the orc archers to harass the catapults and archers accurately on the cliffs. Even with the orc numbers I think it could be done if the infantry was layered properly to hold back the attackers. The attackers couldn't just send in waves or they'd be cut down by too much missile fire. So a large force all at once would be needed to break through. Even if all else fails it would make for an epic stand.
After this battle, it is really interesting to think about what happen to Caer Andros, after the war is over and Sauron is defeated. Are the people trying to come back and try to life here again. Or they seeing in Caer Andros a new darkness, that something make this place now very dangerous, like the dead marshes. Ok, the dead marshes are really older than that we see in the second movie, but it is iterresting at all to think about it.
Hey Apollo! Would you mind trying the GEM Mod for Medieval 2? It works with any other mod too and drastically enhances the graphics of the game, at least in my opinion. Your battles would be even more epic with that. Maybe you can check it out. Nice vid as always.
Watching several waves go up against a strong line of defense with artillery and archers raining down hell is fun to watch. "massive battle lines"? better if it was a small battle, we get to see more action. You would wave the camera along the whole massive battling line so we would only get to see a couple seconds just so you can cover the whole battle. Small battles are good.

I don't see how good would ever win in these situations. It doesn't matter if specific factions are better when they are so horribly outmatched. Honestly, even if ranged factions never ran out of ammunition eventually the sheer numbers would finish them off. The enemy had 5, 660 men left after the fight. That's just...insane.

When i played this scenario with others for this first try(not this one ), as defenders, we accindentelly wiped out every single attacker....sad orcs

On choke points form a horse shoe and engage as much of your troops as possible if you're the defender. It also counts for a flanking attack.

10:37, a thing of beauty. Pikes overlapping with sword infantry will be very hard to get through, especially with garbage orc units.

I don't see how good would ever win in these situations. It doesn't matter if specific factions are better when they are so horribly outmatched. Honestly, even if ranged factions never ran out of ammunition eventually the sheer numbers would finish them off. The enemy had 5, 660 men left after the fight. That's just...insane.
