Her shell looks great! Nice and smooth with no pyramiding. You put great effort in making sure her diet is as natural and appropriate for her as possible. It's nice to see that because a lot of tortoise owners take the easier route and just feed pelleted tortoise food. She is ADORABLE!
Loved this video!!! I love Sheldon!!! I feed blue the diet you suggest! I agree fully, I just got a bag of the Mazuri tortoise food to supplement 1-2 days during the winter & I’m dreaddding it. I have awful luck w growing plants lol I’m trying tho! 🌷🐢
Hiya, thanks for watching!! It's always a controversial video haha. The winter is always a nightmare, I am awful with plants for the most part too so it can be really difficult to find enough food. I'm tempted to try drying out my own food for her but she isn't too excited by dried food so I don't think she'd be impressed haha. They are complicated little dinosaurs 😂😂 We love watching Blue on your channel too ♥️ x
I have a baby Mediterranean tortoise who is 2 years old his eyes and stuff have all off a sudden got very puffy he has not opened his eyes or ray for 2 weeks I took him to the vets yesterday they give him some vitamins and said if he doesn’t pick up in a week he will have to go on a feeding tube I hope he will be okay
I'm so pleased it has been useful :) My friend built the enclosure for me because It can be hard to find a shop bought one big enough and custom built ones can be really expensive. I have seen some made out of bookcases, you just put it on it's back and take out the shelves so you don't need to be good at DIY. That way you get more space for your money. This is how we built Sheldon's but it wouldn't need to be this complicated: th-cam.com/video/OdDFPFBXQ1w/w-d-xo.html
Awesome 😊 I am planning a series on hibernation, I’ve been thinking about it for a long time and it’s such a huge topic that I don’t think I can fit all the information I need to cover into one video without it being really long 😆
There are some very helpful Facebook pages on hibernation, hermann-tortoise.co.uk has some useful information and there’s an in depth article here about methods: www.tortoisetrust.org/articles/newhibernation.html 😊
Hi I’m changing my horsefield tortoise table to a bigger one and could you tell me if it’s ok to mix play sand with the top soil. I’ve been told not to do it but then other people say yes it’s ok. We have only had him 7 weeks and I think he is 15 months but could be 17 months. The lady next door asked us to foster him but I fell in love with him so she lets us buy him. Hope you can help thank you
Actually, it has been researched that diet has nothing to do with pyramiding. It is actually to do with the humidity in the enclosure, which is why mediterranean tortoises need a damp substrate :)
Hello there, I have a couple questions ;) My young 1 year old Herman tortoise never drinks water, no matter how fresh it is xd what should I do? Any tips? I am looking for things to put into his enclosure any good suggestions? That's it for now. Thanks!
Tortoises need vitamin D3 to utilise the calcium that they consume. Natural unfiltered sunlight allows them to produce vitamin D3 but most of the time they aren’t getting the same exposure in captivity as quite often the UVB levels are different where they are being kept compared to the country the originate from and especially if they are being kept partially indoors so we need to supplement it into their diet.
I own a marginated tortoise & i honestly think he’s getting obese :-( i feed him leafy greens mixed with soft pellets and some vegetables. any tips/advice? 😰
I would look at switching him slowly on to a more healthy diet of weeds, grasses and flowers like in this video 😊 Pellets and veggies are not a great long term diet for Marginated torts. I find the website tortoise table useful for ideas on what to feed. The care sheet for Mediterranean tortoises on the tortoise trust website is good too.
I have 2 Herman's living in my garden, their native habitat in Tuscany, and I can assure you they're not 100% herbivore, that's a common myth. Their favorite food is snails, I've also seen them eat a dead blackbird starting with the head/brain (nasty!). Thus Mediterranean tortoise are omnivores and opportunistic.
My tortoise Sheldon is so so fussy he won’t eat any hand picked weeds and the only weeds he will it is plantain and dandelion he also won’t eat anything that has calcium dust or vitamin supplement on I really want to feed his a plant and weed diet but he refuses to touch any of it
Thank you this helped me out so much! I’m glad you’re uploading more tortoise vids. 🐢💖
You’re welcome, I’m so pleased you found this useful! I have a few more tortoise videos planned but let me know if you think of anything specific 😊 x
Wow you actions really show how much you care for these little ones. It is uplifting your caring for "Sheldon." Thank you for your video.

It's been a long time since I seen an update o n sheldon, last I saw was her updated new enclosure. How is she doing?
Merci pour cette belle vidéo ! La tortue est magnifique ♥♥♥♥
What specific kind of hermanns tortoise is this?
Thanks this has really helped me out where did you buy your tortoise table from ? If you built yours where do you recommend buying one

Suggestions for plants I can grow in the winter indoors for my Russian tortoise? I am in zone 5a/b and have a long winter
I also have a tortoise. And he has his own youtube channel called digger digs tortoise. Will you do a video on hibernation?
Awesome 😊 I am planning a series on hibernation, I’ve been thinking about it for a long time and it’s such a huge topic that I don’t think I can fit all the information I need to cover into one video without it being really long 😆
@@BeckysAnimals thanks for responding! Is there a website that you think has good on imformation on it?

They hit hard bro, i love when they toss them forward and hit with the shell, love the noise it makes but dont like the damage it does to my legs.
What do you mean cause you mean what I think then that’s just messed up

Will they eat the hibiscus leaves also or just the flower?
Yes they can also eat the leaves although Sheldon doesn’t like them as much as the flowers.
what about girl's name: Shelly instead of Shelton?

YorMaMa_1 I have a Herman they don’t really drink but if you’re really worried give it a little bit of watermelon for a treat.
Give him a shallow bath twice a week
I was told to never use calcium with d3...I wonder why. 🤔 I just want to do the best we can for her, she is a rescue

What does a fat tortoise look like?

Can you feed them lettuce
yes

I suggest to soak your sheldon before feeding it. It doesn't waste your time and your tortoise won't get it's food dirtied.
