Hello, this has happened to me, the van has had the wet belt changed recently, after a few hundred miles, the idler pulley bolt between the crank and fuel pump had snapped, all the backlash gears have come off and made a right mess, also it has snapped the wet belt tensioner clean in half, the idler pulley bolt was never messed with during this procedure as it’s not needed, only turned the crank over with the 24mm crank pulley bolt. Any info on why or how this would happen would be gratefully appreciated, thanks

Exactly same happened to mine. But still no info online as to why it fails. Wet belt was changed , the idle pulley untouched , new belt on and few hundred miles later it all fell apart!

I believe it’s when a impact gun is used on the crank bolt damages the idler

Does anyone know why the bolt can break shortly after a belt replacement ?

Is it good practice to change the bolt on a belt change? And would it need to be pinned if just changing bolt or will it stay in place?

Hi mate I’ve got a transit on my ramp at the minute with a similar problem. Can I rattle your brain a little bit about it?
