Tackling my location list: Landscape Photography with a Nikon D750

  • For this weeks landscape photography video, I cross a few locations from my scouting list in the Forest of Dean District. Armed with my Nikon D750, I gain new inspiration, potential project ideas and a Spring surprise during this chilled out, but very productive day.
    Thank you for watching this video! If you did enjoy it, let me know in the comment section down below!
    Timestamps:
    0:00 An Awkward Space (Location 1)
    2:23 A Garlic Distraction (Location 2)
    4:37 A Hopeful Sunrise (Location 3)
    6:06 If you know, you know...
    6:27 Where did all the water go?! (Location 4)
    If anyone has any Mic tips help clean up my audio when filming close to rushing water, (always trying to improve my audio skills) please feel free to suggest something in the comment section or message me privately! Your thoughts are greatly appreciated.

    Thank you for watching! Any advice/feedback on my mic audio around the waterfalls/flowing water would be great! I struggle to capture clearer audio as the water is so loud. (I use currently use a Rode Lav Mic) Sound is the aspect of filming I struggle with the most and I'm always looking to improve my skills so my future videos will be even more enjoyable.

      I didn't notice any issues so I went back to that clip and it seems fine. Ambient nature sounds are always great to include but I may see your sound balance concerns in it.
      I'm no expert on video but maybe repositioning you Lav Mic to counter balance your voice to the water will give you better results and/or maybe using a Dead Cat on it if you don't already... Otherwise that clip is fine, like I said I didn't notice any issues on first view.

    • @SimonBoothPhotography
      @SimonBoothPhotography 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      No issues noted from me. I use the same and record the audio on a Zoom voice recorder. The one Bly comment n issue that I get is if my arms rub over my coat or if I lie down and forget to move it.

      @oneeyedphotographer ปีที่แล้ว

      What does the BBC use? In the studio (current affairs, news) the ABC mostly uses a lav microphone. Outdoors for similar programs it often uses a microphone on a stalk (head-worn microphone).
      Wireless to the camera should ensure you always have sound on when recording, or you can record to something in your pocket. Zoom H1n or similar. Or your phone. A Bluetooth headset to phone might be sufficient, you can just let it run. That way, you could speak notes for later, not part of the video. A handclap might signify the start of such notes.

    •  ปีที่แล้ว

      Think it's better to avoid using an omnidirectional mic in these situations, it's better to have a directional mic (with a cardioid pattern) in these, to be capable to taylor better separation between the "planes" of different sounds. Best regards from Barcelona and congrats on your great work!

    Well, one thing you wouldn't have to worry about in that garlicky undergrowth and that's vampires!!! :P :P Mind you, the fairies and elves would have atrocious garlic-breath!!!! Great pics as usual :) That bridge scene will look great with the right light and conditions, but you'll have to carefully pick your time and day. Might have to try it a few times before you nail it. Oh, and you're a far better dancer than I am. I have two left feet and things don't bend for me like they used to. I can't get down as low as you can to take pics. Not unless I fall over, which is easy enough. But, then I'd need help getting back up!! :) :P

You're exercise regime while out on a shoot looks like a lot of fun, as I have daughters your age, but would most certainly join in with you, albeit with the right music...which is another love of mine. A path through a swathe of wild garlic is such a wonderful thing isn’t it. I agreed with your various composition conundrums whilst making the images and I too couldn’t call it? I appreciated the quirk that you brought to your video...It makes it different and that’s not easy to do.

      It really is. I haven't found any locations with an abundance of wild garlic locally this year, so I was very pleased to stumble across this pathway. You nailed the waterfall shot under those tight conditions, and the footpath ones, the vertical shots being my favorites for the issue you brought up of distractions off to the sides of the scene. I think my favorite is the bridge shot with the natural lines and foreground, mid ground and distant elements and just enough in the scene to make it a story and simple at the same time, including the sheep :)

    Can you please teach me how to dance? But first, teach me how to talk with a British accent. Then teach me how to use an L-bracket on my Canon EOS R that has a Ulanzi Claw Quick Release plate on with a Ulanzi Zero Y Lightweight Travel Tripod. I hope I'm not asking too much. 💜 You asked for feedback on your audio as you were talking and setting up around the falls. Yes, the waterfall is loud, but I clearly understood what you said, even with my 66-year old ears. You mic gain could've been a tad (or wee, as y'all say) bit higher, but that might've increased the waterfall sounds too.
