- It's finally time for roses in our cottage garden. We thought we would show you some of the plants that are in flower at the moment. It's great to compare how the plants have grown as it's been about a year since we last did a rose tour. They are coming along nicely.
We also start a new no-dig bed in the vegetable garden which we will be using as a cutting patch this year (until I inevitably fill it with some sort of perennial vegetable plant!).

A rose I would recommend is Alissar, Princess of Phoenicia; A semi-double hibiscus-like rose with beautiful profuse flower that have a colour contrast between the back and front of the petals and it is great for the bees.

Greeting's from Ireland. We have a very old peony rose in our garden great no thorns. Me and the thorny one's don't get along but my mother love's them and she has lots of them. I dread the call to come down to her garden and weed the rose's there have been times I thought I'd end up in A&E.

Thank you for updating on the Rambling Rector! One year and already that giant! WOWZERS! I hope you have a big enough ladder you can manage to use when strapping that big boy to the tree. Better get to strapping him down now because if you don't he will get so big so fast with wood stems you won't be able keep him in check. This is my pet rose to watch as he grows another 10 feet this summer! Oh, and about that lovely pink rose your dad gave you that is really jumping up. My thoughts are that the pink would look lovely trained over one of your black arches.
The Rambling Rector doesn’t reflower, like all ramblers. It’s a beautiful rose; we have a massive one that has covered a very tall blackthorn tree, flowering here (Galway, Ireland) in late May and early June for about 2 weeks.
Careful about moving that rose. It may survive the transplant, but if you put another rose in the same spot it will likely get rose-dieback - they really don’t likely living in another rose’s hole ;)

The rose you weren't too sure about could possibly be called 'Scarborough Fair '. It has ball shaped buds opening to pure soft pink. It's a slightly looser flower to Scepter'd Isle. Beautiful garden 👍

You remind me of me 20 years ago and the new garden I began back then. ❤ Now 20 years later, I am enjoying all the fruits of my labor! So hang in there…soon you will see everything filled in! Oh, and… The Eden Rose will come to be a favorite! Mine is about 18 years old and enormous! I love that it grows stems long enough to use as cut flowers. The garden is looking magical and I bet it smells divine. Thought you may want to know that when prounouncing sceptred isle the c is silent and is taken from Richard II Shakespeare referring to England. I can recommend Blush Noisette if you are ever on the look out for another rambler as Francis E Lester and Rambling Rector only flower once but this one repeat flowers from June until the Autumn

Lovely to see the roses flourishing in your garden. My soil is quite limey and Stoney, I find the roses really benefit from annual applications of manure, maybe your duck manure would be good for this too. Really enjoyed seeing the new flower bed being made from start to finish and look forward to watching it progress. Would love to know more about how you made the woven supports , they look very natural .

Fantastic progress...enjoying your roses. Re the Rambling Rector or "Rampant Rector" I planted one in 2018 to eventually cover a summer house. The first year like yours just a few roses and every year following a multitude to the extent that now its covered my summer house and spread far and wide. Your trellis fence you have several rose growing up and are concerned to have that completely covered asap, well a rambling rector will certainly do that. TH-cam Nigels Cheshire Garden and enjoy my rambling roses, incl the Rector. All my roses a re David Austin.. enjoy..

You have a beautiful garden 🧡 You probably know this already but sowing cold hardy annuals (for cut flowers) in Autumn appears to be the way to go. It is winter here 🇦🇺 and I am eager to see how my no dig 'washing line' bed does in the Spring. Patience is the hardest thing in gardening 😊

Gorgeous video, so many blooms! Was the bowl shape pink rose Scarborough Fair? I don’t have that, but I was deciding between that one and Compte de Champagne for a long time, and it looks very much like Scarborough Fair to me? 🤷🏼♀️

I agree. Does it have an extraordinary myrrh (whatever that is) scent? So spicey not rosey ...Flower and leaf look like Scepter'd Isle.

I am a bit too much of a fan of pink to add any other strong colours, maybe yellow or white at a push 😄

Are you spraying your D.Austin roses? Here in Wales the Roses are consistently picking up black spot/yellowing off, even after treating them with 'Rose Clear'. It's been an odd year for the weather here unfortunately and so far the Austins out of them all have been performing rather poorly compared to my others.
Thought asters are perennials? Panted some from seeds this year too. Curious if they’d come back? Love your Chanel!
they’re perennial by nature, so they should come back each year with enough sun :)
Some are, some aren't. Perhaps it depends on where you live.
I’m in Berkshire. Garden is a hot mess as it is our first year in the house. They are growing happily so far and I’ll just wait and see :)

the pale roses are one of her Olivia Rose Austins which she shows later, and the dark pink bells are foxgloves (perhaps Excelsior?)

Lovely programme but why are you 'dead heading' beautiful roses still in their prime? They have such a short bloom anyway. I don't understand why people cut roses when they look so beautiful and healthy. Dead head then afterwards - when they have withered.
