Superb! Best video and info. I've come across on this subject. Fantastic details. Helped me spot a fake version I really thought was real. If it wasn't for your details and thoroughness, I would have bought fake ones. Thank you so much!
I have a pair of B&L 5022 shiny black great condition. Only wore them a few times since I bought them around '85. The case is also in near new condition. What are they worth?
Those are nice Warfarers! So when were the first temple logo Wayfarers made? Or when did Ray-Ban start putting their logos on the temples of their Wayfarers? Great video! Thanks.
I faintly remeber buying my wayfarer sunglasses probably early 90s. I believe they were on sale. Mine checked off all your verification markers, just one thing more marking on mine that you didn't mention. On the left arm, same arm as WAYFARER on the portion that would rest behind the ear is engraved, or stamped, is : L2052 XMAS, unless it's XXAS. Your thoughts, was it a special??
I have seen Tortoise shell Wayfarer with same colour nose pieces as the frame, instead of clear, they seem to be 1990s models. Would they be real, is that the difference between 80s and 90s maybe, every other detail was spot on.
Mike Marks I would presume the latter as all my tortoise frames are tortoise nose pads. Although they could of been replacements. I would be surprised to see fading of that magnitude. Normally heavy wear would result in salt deposits rather than fading.
maybe a pair of mark 2 wayfarer? i just found a pair of wayfarers in amazing condition at goodwill. very rare to find ray bans that slipped through the net like that, so good for me. i can't tell when they were made though..? inside of the frame, top right above the lens is marked "B&L 5022". left arm inside says "WAYFARER". right arm inside says "B&L RAY BAN U.S.A". tortoise framed with the greenish G-15(?) lenses that feel like glass to me. everything looks right, everything feels right.. i've owned 80's era wayfarers and the build quality is top notch. far better than anything today. there's no lens engraved "B&L" though, even though they don't appear to have been replaced by my eyes. there's no "ray bans" logo on the temple.. or anywhere else but the right arm inside. i know they are legit, but i'm stumped on the time frame they are from. these are as close to perfect condition wise as i've ever had. the heft and the shine is just incredible. i look at these and think JFK more than Tom Cruise.. everything you have gone over in your video has checked out to the letter, EXCEPT the lens engraving. the lenses look and feel like the genuine article though. any ideas?
thank you for your help, BLRayBanUK. i was able to guess they are mark 2 wayfarers from another video of yours showcasing those lovely Blonde framed wayfarers you were so happy to find. that video also helped me identify the proper color name of Amber, rather than Tortoise Shell. it's great to know.. however, they are too small for my fat face. it's just brutal! 😩 i can tell already that i am going to see how far the rabbit hole goes, with vintage ray bans becoming yet another hobby for me. after all.. i need a pair i can wear, right? and when i get those, i'll need a backup pair just in case. of course, it's probably a good idea to have several different colors for different occasions too. along with backup pairs for those. oh boy.. here we go
I bought a vintage wayfarer that fits all the original geometry of the authentic one, only thing that is different from your description is the rayban badge on the sides, I don't think it's a special edition but it still has the original rayban badge, do you have any idea about that ?
Mick Jagger speaking lol! I have a couple of Wayfarers, and they are exactly like said here with the exception of the nose pieces. In the black ones (which are heavily prescripted) these pieces are transparent but not quite, there seems to be a light bit of black, as if these were faded. On the other side, the brown tortoise ones have nose pieces which are the same color of the frame. Would like to have your email address and send you some pictures for you to take a look at them...
Jayvacano not necessarily. although its rare for the sizing not to be there. do the other id points match? send some pics to me if you want me to check for you. blraybanuk@gmail.com
Thanks for the video. Just bought a pair of black ones. All points you made match on mine. The arms are stamped, but the end of the arms don’t curve in as dramatic as yours. I have a pair of tortoise ones coming and they curve. Is this normal. They’re are almost straight to the end with slight curve, and fold up flat. They are stamped B&L on the lenses too. They also say Marlborough on the case. Thanks .
BLRayBanUK Thanks. So is there a reason behind why some curve in more on the end of the arm/stem ? Or is it just time period ? My black ones are Almost straight with a slight curve in. Personally find this comfier.
why does anyone care about the name "Ray-Ban"? or any other name for any other product? I don't care. It's not like you're going to take it to heaven or hell with you? This life is extremely short.
Great video. I just bought a great vintage pair, black and tortoise. Only thing missing is the model number on the inside of the frame.

Anything from 50 to 85 euros i would say.
+BLRayBanUK So a new pair is worth more!
@@robcase6299 absolutely. condition is everything
+BLRayBanUK I see a pair in similar condition on Ebay for $750.
they sold for $750 or they are asking for $750? you can ask for whatever you want, but what people are willing to pay are two different things.
Insanely difficult with the crystal lenses. I totally just shattered one and put in my prescription lenses as a replacement
Those are nice Warfarers! So when were the first temple logo Wayfarers made? Or when did Ray-Ban start putting their logos on the temples of their Wayfarers? Great video! Thanks.
Logos on the temples of some of their Wayfarer models was 90s
@@BLRayBanUK ooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo
Oooohh I I oooooo
@@BLRayBanUK Is it possible to have a pair that has a B&L on the left lense and a Ray Ban on the top of the right lense¿¿

Mike Marks No you are correct. The tortoise she'll come with same colour nose pads.
does that mean some were clear and some were tortoise, or were they atortoise originally and faded to clear as they were used?

quite thorough and helpful. THANKS, but geez... it would be SO MUCH better overall if you could expedite info and speak more quickly.thanks again!

Joe Turk wayfarer 2's possibly? I have a pair of wayfarer 2's, and as far as I know, they're the only vintage to have the "ray ban" logo.
