No shortage of firewood there eh! Beauty saws. That little 44 really rips. I’ve got a 41 but have to assemble it yet. It came in for repair at the local saw shop but customer didn’t want to pay what it would cost to fix so they gave it to me. This vid makes me want to get it going.
That pioneer sounds pretty normal. I had a bunch of these and the poulan pros and they all sounded like this one, noisey but good torque for a boat anchor lol
Hi Tinman. Yesterday I reamed a Tillotson HS carburetor from 15mm to 19mm. Today I will reinstall the diaphragms and i'm going to try it on my Pioneer P51. Let's see what's going to happen. Greetings from Italy! (If my english is bad, sorry about that)
Great to see Stock saws. Sound good, cuts good, light = a good saw. I personally don't own and have never cut with a custom ported saw and I'm not brave enough yet to doctor my stuff, yet, one day.... mmaayybeh. For now stock works great for me. TC Mahalo Tinman 🤙🤙🤙
I LOVE this video! I have a echo & john deere (echo ) that needs a reason to exist. Reminds me of that Pioneer, That little orange saw rips! Sometimes its just fun to get the old iron running sweet. Suff an eight pin on them for a "hop up"
I like watching your video's cause I'm a chainsaw nut, but I'm amazed how popular porting a saw has become. For cutting firewood a good sharp chain makes the biggest difference. The last thing I want is a temperamental saw. I keep mine stock. I like dependable, and long lasting.
I got a farmsaw for free, it needed almost everything fixed. It ended up with the 272 carb, two stage Boyesen reeds, and a new blue coil. It frigging rips!
fun video. I enjoy seeing stock and vintage saws in action because the evolution in engineering fascinates me. There has been a distinct shift in saw function philosophy, and I love it. Torque vs. speed.
Tinman awesome video on the old Pioneer. New subscriber and love your channel. I just purchased a Pioneer P41 Farmsaw in good condition but it doesn’t run. Hope to be able to get it working! Thanks for sharing all your chainsaw knowledge!
Great job, giving props to the stock chainsaws! You are absolutely right that most of the work overall gets done with them. I've seen a number of these Pioneer Farmsaws for sale over the years and I've always been tempted to get 1. I think you've pushed me to make that decision!👍
Gotta be careful. Coil issues and weak recoil that are just about non existent. I do love my pioneers though. I have a 655bp p42 hi performance a p41 and a farmsaw lite. Awesome and easy too work on
Great saw have a pioneer farmsaw just like it has the same noisy clutch lol also have a farmsaw ll. And it's no joke about the read cage cracking if you tighten the carburetor too tight or used too long of screws just about everyone I've ever seen is cracked both of mine I have glued the cracks and sealed with Yama Bond to keep them from leaking one of them would quit when you left it idling no matter what you did touch the throttle when she was idling and she would quit. The other one wouldn't hold a tune then one day I noticed I had to take it lean to get it to run right so I pulled it apart found the cracks on the read block so the next day I pulled the other side apart same thing. Great video man they do run good especially on our modern mix oil.
Pioneer saws are the best in my opinion - nice video tin man, I have a farm saw too. I don't run it much cause it is in perfect condition... From time to time I do pull it off the shelf and go for a rip.. Edit - I also have a p40 it is very similar, I beat the heck out of that one though 😁
I have an P28, an RA, and a 120 cc IEL Pioneer, and would love to get my hands on one of the later models from the 70s, in the 90 or 100 cc range. My first new saw, in 1975, was a P25, which I sold when I got a Sthil 051. I regretted selling it, it was a reliable little saw.
I tried running a friends stock saw the other day … it was like watching paint dry ! That farm saw moves along upon further review - sounds like it’s running well , torquey saw
Didn't know they had them with full wraps. Now I want one or two.. That 55 is also quite nice. I liked climbing with rear handle saws like that back when I did climb.
Gotta love the old pioneers. I said I was done buying more saws, but recently got a P41 for a decent price. I ran mine the other day through some red alder. It only has a semi chisel chain so its not cutting to its full potential. I want to get full chisel for it but its an odd size 78 links, might need to get a chain made for it. I am curious to see what you do with the muffler tinman. I have removed my baffle and screen but I have not run it without that yet. Seems like my saw is getting choked by the factory muffler. Maybe a gasket delete and muffler mod would go a long way. My wood shed is full now but watching these videos makes me want to go out and get some more. Cheers.
Those 44s, 51s, and 55s are amazing for the size and weight. I have a bone stock rancher 55 from 03 that’s been run hard forever. I just bought a second on that I just ported, and wow it woke right up, still tuning the clutch but she’s a rowdy little saw❤
Care to share your numbers? I've been writing down suggestions from lots of people to eventually use on my 51. The ring gap is kinda wide (high mileage) and I am going to put on a 55 cylinder once it starts losing its manners and port it. Is yours closed port w/ decomp? TBH it cuts great as is.

Those farm saws are nice. Carful when tighting the carb mount bolts the intake/ reed block is super easy to crack. The coils give trouble too but you can swap out for a husky coil I believe. I just bake mine in a toaster oven when they give trouble

e naquele matagal foi só cavaco de pau pó de serra que subia
e esse grande duelo deste jeito é que termina
na briga das ferramentas o machado é que domina
motosserra parou cedo ali no tronco da quina
machado seguiu cortando mata grossa e mata fina
motosserra impotente rebentou sua corrente acabou a gasolina
