Just to nitpick as a Tau uberfan, the philosophies are not at odds. They are meant to be used together, as the situation requires. There are also several other philosophies that don't ever get talked about outside the lore. An actual Tau Commander in the lore will use all of them, as the battle changes. But yeah, in the tabletop rules, Mont'ka is almost always better, mostly because it's active in the early game.
But thats no fun :( And yeah 40k is so front loaded. Most of the game is done by round 2 while everyone still has their big hitters. Montka will always triump unless there are some big changes.
Competitively kauyon is doing well, the decisive action secondary is easier with kauyon, the extra redeploys and having units such as crisis suits and Riptides that can jump, shoot then dash back behind obscuring terrain makes doing damage without suffering much return damage in turns 1 and 2 a lot easier.
@@kylapinto4276 It SHOULD be you get both, maybe swapping turns, or maybe 1-3 one, 3-5 the other, something like that. But Tau are GWs favorite whipping horse, so they take away all our good stuff, I'm not shocked we get a neutered doctrines system.
Last Scene was Epic, The Stormsurge falls as Kickaso stands above it, The Exposed Core accumulates this blue energy then whirling around it then overloads into this nuclear explosion of blue plasma energy sending shockwaves all over the battlefield
Can we please have a space marine vs space marine game but the catch is Steve plays both teams and we see how long it goes on for as his dice affect both teams 😂
After each round a d6 is rolled and on a 6 Tycho invades the board with a swath of Nurgle filth equal in points to one of the chapter forces (if it goes to end of turn 3 without happening it then happens automatically) The space marines then put their differences aside and work together to face the Chaos threat. But as none will be able to hit and none able to save the rest of the game is about how long it takes Tycho to annihilate all the loyalists. 😂
This was an amazing battle, and a treat to watch. I loved every second of it, and not because of the tau (definitely one of my favourite 40k armies as well!), but because of the sheer fun both players were clearly having. Also, props to Nick for reminding his adversary of useful rules even when it could hurt him. That kind of attitude is always a bonus that makes me love your channel even more.
I absolutely loved George's energy in this and would love to see him come back! What is it with Tau players on PlayOn and just being the most wholesome guys around?!
You know, Tau is the underdog here, but I think if Tau misplays Tau can really do some great stuff. Great video, hope to see some Craftworld stuff on the channel. I feel like those guys have kinda fallen behind Harlequins, the Undead and the Dark Elves. Wraithseers seem like such a sleeper power unit.
One of the things that keeps me watching these is how chill and cheerful the competitors are towards one another. Like they genuinely understand that it's a game and that playing weird situations with others if the big fun of it.
Important things we learned during that game. Tau are not fish, they are Manatees. Split fire sometimes works. Shields are OP. Montka is better. Tau do have melee. Explosions!!!
Tau have always had some melee in response, but they are not usually wanting to charge into melee. It's more a defensive thing. Of course, FSE changes the whole dynamic of Tau quite heavily.
@@Archaneus it's actually surprising how much melee they have, as compared to the other shooty armies, like the Imperial Guard which have only Bullgryn, Riders, and the Hades drill. We've seen episode after episode where Kickasso's Onager gauntlet has inflicted critical damage and deleted some very critical units in melee.
I love the idea of this match-up just from the lore perspective. I imagine this is a mock-battle being fought in one of the Fire Caste’s training domes.
Great Video! I love how clear you guys manage to make the game and how digestible it is. Lots of battle reports are so many hours that they feel incredibly slow and sometimes are a slog to get through. I only wish you guys had a Tyranid player! Favorite faction bias? Definitely! The bugs are terrifying and amazing in equal measure! Edit: and a Sisters player because holy trinity and Nuns with Guns has incredible meme value!
I am litteraly days old into warhammer and watched a video briefly describing the factions in WH40K and I thought dang the T'au look pretty cool and I am into that robotech scifi alien genre, and now I find this video and boom you both made it look so fun, I am definitely in the T'au regiment now lol. Great video gents!
As a Tau player i really do Enjoy seeing the mayhem of few units remaining on the field at the end of the second turn shooting phases. Also in my mind the Onager gauntlet dude did definetly turn thrusters at full capacity and cut through the chest of the stormsurge straight into it's reactor to avoid the towering machine to have another chance to shoot at his badly wounded Leader, what a CHAD.
Really wish Kauyon had some effect turns 1 & 2 which provided a Kauyon Tau player some extra durability and movement to delay and evade. A slew of buffs to transports, fast attacks and auxiliaries would allow a Tau army to delay, screen, misdirect and tank until the latter rounds allow the Tau to redeploy and benefit from late round buffs. I say this as I’m yet to see a game go on to see Kauyon’s current buffs come online!
@@brothertobias Okay, interesting. Is that from your experience attending events or from battle reports? Not doubting you, just have seen it played no more than twice in battle reports and it's consistently proved worse than Mont'ka, the defining factor being that you might not have much of your army left by those late rounds to benefit from the buffs. Particularly as so much late-game priority seems to be thrusting onto objectives, rather than blasting.
Can Farsight lead the charge with his flock following him or can Shadowsun graze her way to victory with her herd? As A tau player, this is going to come down to the players. I have played both styles of gameplay and I favor the montka. I like to be more aggressive in the early rounds. If the Farsight can get in quick enough and do some serious dmg early on, they should win. If the Tau sept player can play strategically in the kauyon way, farsight should have a much harder time. cows vs horses the equine royal I have been waiting for. So when are we getting Tau Nick vs GS Nick vs Guard Nick! Hopefully, narrated by Nick. Or maybe Tau Nick vs Rebel Nick in either star wars legion or 40k game with custom rules for factions
Both such gorgeous armies with such cool and fun builds! This kind of game play and the anesthetics of these armies are why I chose Tau for my first army
Imagine being that Stormsurge. You unload all that firepower into the enemy commanders, the smoke clears, and both of them are still alive. I would be rethinking my life choices at that point.
This to me has to be the absolute best PlayOn video of 2022. I had so much fun watching this I was giddy at times. It reminded me of the very first PO videos, when everything was new. The T'Au players are the labradors of WH40k. It's so funny that both T'au players have the same infectious enthousiasm, model fair play courtesy and a penchant for cinematics over boardgame score. Loved the music on this one. The only thing missing was some higher level special fx animations, that I feel PO can now afford, like the stealth suits appearing suddenly, Predator-style. Great thanks, guys! I watched this instead of Poland beating Saudi Arabia in Qatar.

Also the mental Image of the two commanders fighting and taking out shadowsun was pretty badass. Like I can see kick' kasso delivering that knock out punch to shadowsun saying Mont' ka then turning to deflect incoming fire.
Kauyon is really at a disadvantage because it kicks in turn 3, and games are often over by turn 3. I have a huge (over 10,000 points not including the Manta) Tau army. I play them both, and have been successful with both, but Kauyon is extremely disadvantaged, especially on the much smaller board where almost every army can get off a turn 1 charge if they try. If we were using the whole table, like in the old days, it would be a different story.

Not a Tau player or big into their lore but it was really interesting to watch how a real Tau match would go. I've seen batreps on other channels but they always seem one-sided. This was great match and as always top quality.
By God what an ending. Storm surge takes a fully powered rail gun to the face then just when he thinks it's over POW punched in the gut and the whole thing explodes.
Thought for sure Nick was going to pull a razzle and dazzle and change up his philosophy last minute. That is what Commander Farsight would really do. But I love seeing T'au on the table running the Enclaves! For the eight!
It just shows how fast-paced and different the ways to play the Tau are, the two players are totally different and have a really polar opposite strat. Anyone who says they're a gunline army that isn't fun is just joining in with the bandwagon. 40k has so many combat armies which just touch you and you're dead in one turn but no-one mentions that

Tau vs Tau is basically the Autobots vs Decepticons moment. They are both fighting for the greater good, but with different ideals.

Kauyon is the prefered way to play in Competitive, but that's mostly for the Redeployment Warlord Trait.

Loved this, I wanna get Tau and Salamanders when I can so games with this two are gr8 watches
Not a Tau player or big into their lore but it was really interesting to watch how a real Tau match would go. I've seen batreps on other channels but they always seem one-sided.

By God what an ending. Storm surge takes a fully powered rail gun to the face then just when he thinks it's over POW punched in the gut and the whole thing explodes.

Thought for sure Nick was going to pull a razzle and dazzle and change up his philosophy last minute. That is what Commander Farsight would really do. But I love seeing T'au on the table running the Enclaves! For the eight!

It just shows how fast-paced and different the ways to play the Tau are, the two players are totally different and have a really polar opposite strat. Anyone who says they're a gunline army that isn't fun is just joining in with the bandwagon.
40k has so many combat armies which just touch you and you're dead in one turn but no-one mentions that
