I dt understand, is every human being on earth always on road trips. That's all I see in every comments in every EV page. I'm sick of it. U have money to go on road trips every weekend, then good for u buy urself a gas car. For the 90% of us who have a 9 to 5 job, kids, work, school and daily commuting, this is all we need. I'm sick and tired of people judging EV based on road trips. Like wtf??
California is eliminating the sale of gasoline powered passenger vehicles by 2035. I don't know of any city in California other than San Francisco that is walkable.
I drove my wife's 2020 Leaf Plus today. Great car. Every safety feature, only 1 fatality in America, the safest EV, zero fires. The only EV in America usung the NMC532 million mile battery formula. Consistently the 5year least expensive car to operate. Great family value starting around 20 for the 150 mile version or 30 for the 225 mile version after the 7500 tax credit. The Leaf is among a few EVs that qualifies for the credit since the car and battery are made in America. Order it online.
6:09 the brake pedal feel changes based on how much charge you have and whether you’re in eco mode or not. If you have a very full battery it’ll feel more like a normal brake pedal since there’s no room in the battery for regen. If you’re in eco mode it becomes even more “bouncy” feeling as you feel a little resistance to using the friction brakes as it prioritizes regen. All in the name of efficiency. 6:09
5:32 Not old school because it's a heat pump. You have to select heat or cool to tell them system which way to operate in. Heating mode is just AC in reverse direction with a defrost mode. In my opinion it is a clever way to put that on the dash I like it.
I am thinking about getting an older Leaf Plus (2018-2020) because they're fairly affordable. The only long trip I'd be doing is 260 miles round trip and there's a charging station on the way.
Just press the temperature control and it puts the climate control into auto, then choose the temperature you like, it automatically turns on heat, AC or both, not that old school as you thought
Plus model Leafs can L3 charge up to 100kW, it’s just hard to find 100kW CHAdeMO chargers since the standard has been on the decline in the US with the widespread adoption of CCS here. Most CHAdeMO stations are older 50kW units. FWIW while the Leaf does beat the Bolt in terms of max L3 charge rate the Bolt is better in so many other ways. That said the Leaf is still a solid commuter and a great value if you can find one at MSRP since it still qualifies for the full $7,500.
I like the Leaf. I feel like Nissan could do a lot more with this platform, or give it some appeal and offer a more driver-centric version. I love that very functional no-BS interior & gauges though (minus the odd shift knob)
1:39 I don't think that's accurate - the spec sheet says that the SV Plus trim can charge at 100kW. (The other trim, S, can only charge at 50kW.) 5:13 If you press the auto button it should turn on the heater or the A/C automatically. Maybe you just adjusted the temperature but didn't hit the auto button?
@@turkeyswissandcheddaronwho8203 I personally believe hybrids is the way to go. Plugin hybrids are better performance wise but they're somewhat hard to get your hands on atm
This would be a good car to test out whether or not it is capable of lift-throttle over-steer… FWD hatchback with skinny tires. In my opinion that is an indication that a FWD car is worth taking on a spirited drive or not
Good review. For me, this still falls too short for me to consider. Infotainment center needs full update. Would really prefer 250-275 mile range...just because and those rims are a full no go. Those things will be a nightmare to clean in the spoke...
The Leaf has grown to be a decently inexpensive commuter car for most folks who don't really go beyond 100mi in daily trips. Yes you can't tow or cross states with this car, but neither can you with a Smart Fortwo either; that's not the point.
Nissan only sold 650,000 Leaf worldwide since it was first introduced in 2010 as the first commercialized pure BEV. It was a demonstration vehicle to showcase what they can do. It wasn't a profitable vehicle with high margins, which is why Nissan never really allocated too much internal resources on them. But media reports say a 3rd generation LEAF will be introduced sometime in 2026.
I drive a Bolt. I refused to consider the Leaf because their passively air cooled batteries don't last. Of course, then the Bolt went through the infamous battery recall... Still, the base battery's range is a joke. I will say that the interior looks sooo much nicer than the Bolt, especially the seats.
probebly at the end of year of 2023 the 2024 year model the 3rd gen leaf will come out and deeply hope that range will be at least 600-700km (minumum) or more.
@@wr1ght939 that was my point. TH-cam has been around for almost 2 decades and people still comment "first" on videos like they think it means something.

Love the growing confidence of substitute Topher in these new videos. Some tongue-in-cheek humor seeping in there!
I honestly don’t understand why so many people whine about EVs. No one is forcing you to buy one.
Because governments are trying to ban the sale of ICE vehicles. That leads to backlash.
Exactly.
California is eliminating the sale of gasoline powered passenger vehicles by 2035. I don't know of any city in California other than San Francisco that is walkable.
Because they know that their naturally aspirated engines, are going to be replaced by these douchy hybrid and electric cars.
Not yet at least.
Love my LEAF Plus. Glad to see it getting some love on a review.

I absolutely love mine. Perfect for city driving, and as my daily commuter.
My family owns one, it’s REALLY good for city driving, but we can’t go to far for it.
You see that on the Nissan LEAF Forum a lot.
I think this could work on a road trip if you bring a diesel generator with you

Kudos to Nissan's Spokesperson.
Horrible range, so in cold weather we can expect something closer to 150.
Hello topher
Not too bad looking for an EV but I’d wait for the Ariya. Jump in price is probably worth the room and much newer technology.
I think it's ridiculous they still have an analog speedometer.
Ya i'll Take a Mazda 3 Turbo 🤣
Chademo charging killed the Leaf. Always hard to understand when a market innovator just completely loses touch with the market they helped create.
