Personally, I'm a fan of everdrives for using FPGA devices to help load media on two original hardware and that's a part of game preservation but this is something about having a physical cartridge that's unique. I think the big challenge that the Xbox 360 presents is that a lot of the game experiences were tied to online services. And you can also say that the game's not the same when there is no one to play them with
I tell my kids all the time that the games without a physical copy are going to end up gone just like all those java games we played in the early and mid 2000s. Yeah the games are popular now but in time they won't be and without an actual copy you can't play 😢
The Xbox 360 was the first console that really went into DLC and online gameplay and a big way. So it will definitely pose a challenge to preservation. Just cuz you have copy of the game. It doesn't mean that there's going to be anyone who can help you play it online. But having a working copy is better than nothing
Thanks for the video and information around 360 titles that are not backward compatible. I have an unboxed Xbox 360 which I only just got out of storage as I intended to revisit some of the disc games on that system.....now I will be buying a few online titles before they go

Mission accomplished. Don't just buy a game because it's on sale now. At least now you can actually look up stuff that you're interested in. The Xbox 360 was actually older than TH-cam and just being able to look up a game was not as easy as it was now.
Don't forget Guardian Heroes, Strania, Guwange, Hard Corps Uprising, Galaga Legions DX. Space Invaders Infinity Gene is so awesome! You can play music mp3s and levels will generate. Such a cool concept.

They have said that the Xbox 360 titles that are available to download and play on the Xbox One and the series Xbox systems will still be on sale on those platforms. But the ability to buy Xbox 360 only digital games is coming to an end

I think this is made even worse by the fact that Microsoft changed the architecture in the choice of CPU and graphics chips between each Xbox generation for the original system, the 360 and the Xbox One.
So every old game doesn't run on new hardware by default and actually requires some work on Microsoft's part.
Hopefully future systems will be backwards compatible with Xbox One and everything else moving forward.
Will you still be able to download patches for the disc games that you own? Thats a worry if not as this was the generation where developers started relying on day one patches to iron all the bugs out.
Well, Microsoft has not said anything about turning off the title updates. However, some developers started releasing larger updates through download packs as DLC. Those will no longer be able to be downloaded if you haven't purchased them. They're probably not going to have the ability to download the free stuff also if you haven't purchased it yet.

This is why people need to keep buying disc games and not allow digital to take over.
Well of the 22 Xbox live Arcade games that I listed only three of them had physical release on the Xbox 360 on disk. So 19 of them never made it to disc. It's hard to buy something that they didn't make.

also, ever since the PlayStation 4 and the Xbox One, every single game released on those platforms and the Xbox series and PlayStation 5 have gotten digital releases.
I mean one of the big advantage of digital games since then is there's no such thing as a rare game anymore because you can at least get a digital version
I know some of these digital games can still be played on compilation discs. Konami classics, qubed, worms collection, dreamcast collection and arcade game packs. Get them now before they go up in value
However the collection of Xbox 360 digital games that got releases on physical discs are few and far. You mentioned most of them. Of course now with the Switch there are more digital games getting super limited physical edition. It is going to be insane for collection completionists to deal with them.
Mind blowing. I first got into retro gaming in about 1998 when I discovered emulators. In those days me and my mates considered the SNES to be retro and it was only about 9 years old! Even old games we played on MAME like Pacman were younger than the XBox 360 is now 😳

Well, you have until July 29th, 2024 but definitely make sure to research what games you want before the store closes. I am glad I did that one the Wii-U, Wii and 3DS shops before they closed for good.

Rez infinite happened on the PS4 VR. That was the jam!
The Tetris effect on PlayStation VR was my jam. It actually was super rad by focusing all your senses on playing Tetris. I actually beat the game that way
One game that was not covered in this review and I will highly give a recommend people to buy it because it is a 360 exclusive, and it is digital exclusive is the game called naughty bear 🐻 panic in paradise highly recommend will be lost forever

That actually looks awesome. Like Hitman but with cartoon animals. It is sad when games like this don't even get a PC Port. I am OK with there being a steam version that just sits there forever.

Yes and some of them are on PlayStation but those are different experiences. The Xbox 360 store closing presents a unique challenge because there's a lot of software on it that was only released for the 360.

Excuslsives are worth grabbing indeed, but multiplatform titles are exactly the same all all platforms, besides platform-specific bonus characters in fighting games.
Oh I would argue that they are very similar but not exactly the same, I'm a bit of a purist when it comes to game experiences, I also have CRTs and a ton of original systems hooked up to them.
I'm glad that some older games are available on PC, but it's not exactly the same experience as playing them on original hardware, especially the older you go.
i dont think you can buy I made a game with zombies in it in 2024 unless thats a uk thing but i remember playing it ones of a hhd i got at a second hand store

If something is retro it is made to look old.
If something is classic it is old. In most cases 25 years old means it's a classic, and 50 years old means it's an antique.
Well, I am actually in full agreeance with you. There are several definitions for retro but I like to go with of an old style and that also includes new games that are made in the style of older games. The problem is that no one uses the term classic gaming and the term retro gaming is more popular by over 10 times the usage of classic games.

@@8bitjoystick no i dont know what a valhalla board is but an rgh is basically a modded xbox 360, you can play every xbox original game, get any xbox 360 game free, emulators and way more
