  • We're thrilled that Kerry Ely - long running team member, prankster and all-round Mr Logistics - will be returning to the fold for this year's Roman villa dig!
Kerry first joined the show as a digging archaeologist on the suggestion of his close friend, Mick Aston. He later moved into the production side and was key to organising everything on site, from helicopters to porta-loos. Kerry played an integral role in keeping everything running smoothly, both on and off screen.
In our exclusive Teatime interview, Tim Taylor catches up with Kerry to look back at his favourite moments and find out what he's up to now.

So good to see Kerry again. Definitely tuning in and looking forward to hearing from him. Addendum: As I suspected, Kerry's interview was wonderful. I, too, love the military sites. To listen to him talk about D-Day and the Dorset man from the program was worth it a listen for sure.

I am so grateful Time Team is coming back to us. I grew up finding arrowheads on my grandparents farm here in Massachusetts and the excitement of the find is what its all about. Look at the expression on Phil's face when he comes up with a find, Priceless! Thanks Farmer Rich.

I was just thinking of the Salisbury Plain soldiers. They all had PTSD, There was one man in particular who suffered severe PTSD. It was watching Time Team that helped him, for some reason watching the team dig and so forth, helped him with all the stress. He was actually going to take courses at college for archeology the show helped him so much. I often wonder how they are all doing. One young guy walked out dressed like Phil with straw hair, haha it was funny.

Oh yes, Operation Nightingale does more than just those with PTSD. As with the Barrow Clump dig we saw on Time Team they also work with those with life changing injuries. One of the Barrow Clump vets now leads Op Nightingale's sister body Breaking Ground Heritage while others are professional archaeologists. The University of Winchester's archaeological department has a project called Heritage for Heroes which a) is, with University of Portsmouth, doing academic research into the mental health benefits of Operation Nightingale, and b) gives a number of free places to Service veterans to do a degree in archaeology.

He talks about that starting around 5:00. He says he's a leader in the Army Cadet Force, which I gather is something like the JROTC in the USA. He's part-time there, so it's like being in the Reserves in the USA.

I can't vouch for that 100%, but I'm pretty sure Tim does not own the copyright to any of the episodes - Channel 4 does, or did if they sold it to somebody, and Tim is just an ex-employee of theirs. Those owning the episodes are providing them to a bunch of different companies running channels like Absolute History, Timeline and Odyssey - for money or for free - and this channel is no exception.
