    Seeing Stewart and John walking a field and figuring out its story touches my heart. Legends, both of them. So gratified to see the team working together again on something so important. Pretty sure Dr. Mick, Robin, Victoria and the rest are out there with them making sure they go right.

      Yeah, I was thinking the same thing. John was in the first episode already and Steward showed up in... the third, I think.
      It is just a shame Phil is busy in Avesbury, him and John's arguments was always a high-point too.
      I did like to see the team doing a more traditional dig since most archaeologists don't work in 3 days (yeah, they did 4 days in the Byzantine bucket episode and 6 days in Nevis and I might be missing something but 4 weeks is unheard of). Let's hope they get back next year and try to find John's ship and possible grave.

    Gosh I love this show. I am in Chicago and I remember watching the old episodes with Mick, Tony, Phil and the gang years ago. I have learned so much and enjoyed so much. Because of some medical conditions I will never realize my life's dream and visit England but Time Team has shown me places I would never have seen otherwise. Thanks to all 😃

    Look, I haven't even finished the episode -- but watching John and Stuart walking around together through the fields, checking John's phone, is such a brilliant development in their working relationship. Those who don't know their history on Time Team (they weren't arch-rivals, but disagreed a lot, and even argued against each other's discipline) won't get how beautiful a moment this is to behold. It starts around 9 minutes in. What a great sight to behold!

    Just been transported back to my younger days, brilliant to see so many new and old faces bringing Time Team back. Amazing how the technology has changed so much in such a relatively short period. Walking around with a real time geophysical map on a smart phone compared to those old dot matrix printouts! Always loved how Stewart could just eyeball a landscape and glean so much information backed up by Johns data (or not)!

    With all of the absolutely astounding (constant & interactive) coverage we had on Patreon, I'm amazed that such a monumental job of editing was accomplished so quickly in preparation for this Live Show. A HUGE thank you to everyone who burned the midnight oil getting this together, and to everyone involved in front of and behind the cameras. @@classicambo9781 Indeed, there is a good chance it is in excellent condition but I am not so certain it is a burial.
      It's placement makes it more likely to be a sunk ship or one that was abandoned on the beach then a burial, those are usually higher up. But anything is possible (including the ship being a Roman ship or a viking Knarr), with just the size to go on, dating the ship and figure out why it is there will require some rather muddy excavation.

    This is a real testament to the work and dedication of the original Time Team, who when they started so many years ago were a joke in the archaeological world and were not allowed anywhere near a 'real' site. Initially a lot of the digs were where people had to have a dig done as part of the planning process. Yet bit by bit they achieved professional recognition to now where they are running digs at Sutton Hoo of all places!
    Congrats to all who helped to achieve this over the years, not to mention the general raising interest, awareness of archaeology and the processes involved.

And also kudos of seeing the Diggers and Archeologists barefoot around the Bones, i know its to prevent them from smahing some bones by accident, but i personly find it gives the whole thing a little bit more dignety then steppeing on another mans Grave and Bones in Wellies or Combat Boots.

    • @loke6664
      @loke6664 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@sushirules I don't think it is a burial since it is so close to the water and seems to be close or in a lost deep channel. It is more likely a sunk or abandoned ship.
      The problem is that digging it is that it is deep under the water level so it would be far too time consuming this summer. Next year with a focus on it, things would be different because since it is under the water level, chances are high that it is well preserved.
      That is, if it is a ship of course. But if it would be a well preserved ship it would be another amazing Sutton hoo find.
      It doesn't have to be a Saxon ship though, it could be Roman or viking as well. It is a bit wide for a viking warship but it could be a larger knarr or it could be Norman as well.
      You have to dig it to really date it after all.

    • @elisabeth6108
      @elisabeth6108 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yes, the fact that being sodden could mean it is very well preserved is exciting, even if it's not likely to be a burial.

    • @loke6664
      @loke6664 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@elisabeth6108 If it is well preserved and Saxon (there are Roman and viking finds in the area too and if we go just by size the boat doesn't have to be Saxon just because there are ship burials nearby) we could learn a lot from it.
      Is it similar to Scandinavian ships of the same time? I don't think it is since once the vikings arrived in the late 8th century they had a technological advantage with their ships but it is a bit hard to say since we basically have marks and nails left of ships like the Sutton Hoo ship and while that tells us some things, there is a lot of unknown factors).
      We don't know when the Saxon started using sails either. The Swedes started to use the in the 7th century and the Saxons did use them in late Saxon period but they could have started a couple of centuries earlier or later then the Swedes (for some reason are there more Swedish ships from that period preserved while Norway and Denmark have more from the late viking period).
      So yeah, it is exciting. :)

    Let's hope more people join patreon so there can be more digs. I discovered Time Team last year and I think I have watched every bit out there. Good luck on future episodes. I also like watching what I can on the ship building. The US doesn't have good programs. Looking forward to something more on Poverty Point also. Thanks

    This is all so exciting! Thank you for sharing this “raw edit?” It’s wonderful to see so many of the original gang back together. I was hoping they would mention Phil when they found the flints. I would love to see him make a visit to the site. To me he wasn’t always given the serious respect he deserved; often being the target of teasing. I think he was loved by his teammates, but perhaps not as esteemed, possibly because he didn’t come across as the well heeled professor, with his regional accent, and he wasn’t as reserved. It shouldn’t be that way, but I think there is still a remnant of the class system alive and well in the UK. Nevertheless, I love Time Team, and I’m particularly pleased that Tony is back presenting.

    The phenomenon tuduu tududu brings me back to a course during a minor in automotive design, which had one lecture of 4 hours straight of a highly ranked professor just going on and on and on about phenomenon. At the break around 2.5 hours I shared that every time he said phenomenon my head would go tuduu tududu. This ofc sparked this phenomenon in the heads of the other students and at a certain point you could see us all mentally go tuduu tududu until on of my classmates started laughing and we all ended up in a laughing fit and the teacher and professor thought we went crazy. We sorta did as I have remembered nothing of that lecture. But that was a fun moment.

    Personally, I'm excited to know about the boat-like feature John found. I'm thinking it may well be later than Saxon but would still be an exceptional find if it is a boat.
