- Sir Jim Ratcliffe, CEO of INEOS and a major shareholder at Manchester United, tells Sky News that there is a "very good case for having a stadium of the north," as he hopes to make headway on a masterplan for Old Trafford and the surrounding area.
Sky News' Rob Harris spoke to him from Barcelona, where Sir Jim was focusing on the America's Cup - another arm of INEOS' sporting portfolio.

Video starts at 5:26, rest is pointless as it's just about Sir Jim wanting to talk about the America Cup.
Thanks mate
Cheers mate
Legend
Thanks
Just get on with it and knock down Old Trafford (it was an underwhelming stadium even _before_ the recent leaks etc.) and build a stadium to rival the Camp Nou, the Bernabeu, the New White Hart Lane or the San Siro. (Yes, yes, I know the San Siro is going to be decommissioned, but it’s still one of the greatest amphitheatres in world football.)
90,000 above for the new capacity
@@ravd8082 Something like that. OT is currently 74,000. 90,000 sounds about right.
It won't happen yet I think they will patch up old Trafford buy players first younger players then go from there
as a united fan, im going to back this man and his company. For the first time in 12 years we have a real footballing decision maker.
The camp nous a dump its big but its a dump that's why there redoing it
Soon, he could sail in his united stadium ....it leaks that much
I’m a 50+ year United supporter and I think your comment is hilarious.
I hate to be THAT guy, and well.done for trying to make a joke but, while I'm not a maritime engineer or anything, I was led to believe that one of the primary qualities of sailing anything is that it does NOT leak
He is a big Brexit supporter. Promised to built the Grenadier in the UK then moved it to France - the irony 😂
"Built the Ineos"? Wtf is an Ineos?
@@mundolioknows6447 apologies- the Grenadier
Mundiokoloknows Well at least he was decent enough to apologise i suppose
@@Torridon22 oh ok. He didn't actually promise to build it anywhere and certainly not depending on the Brexit result. He wanted it to be built in Wales but after watching Land Rover struggle in the UK he decided not to.
Remoaner I guess
I can see why he gets on with the glazers so well, they like spending other peoples money as well
It’s all fun and games until Utd start to become good again isn’t it.
Nobody bat an eyelid when the glazers spent money that dosnt belong to them.
Nobody bat an eyelid when WestHam, City, spurs and evertons owners used public money to fund new stadiums.
Now Jim wants to do the same to improve Utd? Rabble rabble rabble rabble.
Brilliant journalist questions. Could tell Sir Jim was trying to steer away from the football questions but the interview politeley kept it on Manchester United
Thought our sailing heritage was based on sinking the French navy not racing yachts
lol billionaires have such a different angle on history
Didn’t want to talk about United until he seen an opportunity to tout for a stadium being paid for
Does anyone know where SJRs tie is from?
It's part of Alan Partridge's "Sports Casual" fashion line
Looks like he's avoiding Man United questions.
prob wishes he hadnt taken over now lol nah he will be good for us
Because he's at the America's Cup, that's what he is trying to promote. United don't need any publicity.
@@BelfastManUtdTherapytaken over ? Glazers still own the majority.. Ineos is just saving those rats
First keep EtH
We need 110k capacity at Wembley of North, Manchester Utd.
Build it with Jim’s money then not the British tax payers money
Never had a good feeling about him when it comes to Manchester United
Arabs would have been far more aggressive..
Same mate. If he sacks Ten Hag he's an idiot.
My club is sailing towards the abyss on and off the pitch! He needs to pull his finger out and start fixing things!
I see a dark future expecially for United facilities, hope I'm wrong but from that interview I don't have much confidence
Pull his finger out? He's been there for 4 months. Jesus ...
Jim will fix it
lol i think he will, i think we need to back him and be glad that at least now it seems we have an actual decision maker/owner who is only focused on the footballing side.
He just got there, give the guy a chance - it’s going to take years to fix Utd…..he has 19 years of crap to unravel, no one is going to be able to do that overnight.
There was one, a stadium of the North, a bombed WWII military depot and electric works I seem to remember. Was called Old Trafford. It used to be £1.80 into the Stretford End before it went above 45. Now look at the Bernabeu and really weep in awe of one of the greatest stadiums in the world. Back to a proper Theatre of Dreams my vote, political commentary criminals aside.
Wrong the oldest competition in the world is the Ancient Scorton Silver Arrow. Still competed for ever year since 1673.
Wrong! The Atherstone Ball Game has been played since 1199.
@@mundolioknows6447 wher is the trophy.
@@ifl1476 why does there need to be a trophy?
Public funds should not be given for a stadium. This guy is a billonaire. Tax payer money should not be handed over to a billionaire who is not a UK tax payer.
also his business partners in INEOS are also billionaires , they can all fund it themselves individually
Not about that the tax payer should pay a percentage with garenteed jobs for the people of Manchester
Tax payers paid for west ham's stadium and City's council house.
But public money for West ham Is fine?
Some tax money should be given for the jobs it will create and the economic benefit of the town but not all
Billionaire wants the tax payer to increase the value of his recent acquisition.
Same as all billionaires then. Including city, spurs, West Ham and Everton’s owners….
Seems as liverpool have won 6 of those ten does that mean it should be anfield who gets the public funded new stadium? Liverpool 6 man United 3 hmmmm
Need to sort the team out first. No point having the best stadium in the world by riddling the club with even more debt that it can barley field 10 top team, or worse.
Sir jim pls believe in manager
Erik ten hag future is not decided, they need a manager under ineos. The FA Cup performance matters for ten hag to stay!
Have some patience. 🎤🎼Some old patience... whhuuuuu, some old patience... whhhuuuu. This TIME.... Yyyahhhh.🎼
Can ya sail off into the sunset and give Utd to Qatar
what is an america cup fam
Its beginning of new. Dawn.manunited.first we signed the best.coach new players club is taking shape 4 better .getin our stadium restored .since fergie left.we.ad.many coaches lots of players signed was not good 1 game in another out it was a sham now after sooo.long😅 looking forward watching matches.we back on.tract united. Boss ratcliffe wil replace glorly days. Back 😊
At least he cares
Resent this man if TenHag is sacked
So, the billionaire (climate denier) wants us to build him a new stadium?
Did he say that? I don’t think he did. The OT stadium plan is part of a much larger regeneration project and for that government money is 100% needed. Public money will not be building the stadium.
Didn’t know he denied the weather. How odd.
Get him to use the 4 billion in taxes he's saved since he moved his residence to Monaco
Why should council put up money when he has 22 billion for himself
What a joke billionaire wants public money so he doesn’t have to put his hands in his pocket & build the new stadium
Sorry, Sir Jim... but Birmingham is known as the second city and the industrial revolution started there. It was known as the city of a thousand trades for a reason.
The big united fan that tried to buy Chelsea.
And?
@@mundolioknows6447 🙈
@@JOEL_mcfc weirdo
business decision….at the time UTD wasn’t for sale
So what Utd aren’t winning so do we just go support Chelsea? lol give him time we all know what needs to be done let’s see if he does what needs doing
ratcliffe 🤣 TAIL LIFT makers
haha ratcliffe 😂 makers of
Say no to crack
The reason he is making this claim is NO CLUB is allowed a stadium bigger than the national stadium WEMBLEY. Therefore any plans to redevelop rebuild Old Trafford are limited to a max capacity of 89,999
According to who?
he already said they wil expand to 95-100,000 lol
@@plopplop1984 They cant build a stadium bigger than Wembley its just a STUPID rule and fact, google it for yourself
@@uselessoldman7964
What rule is it ?.
Sell Højlund here to Real Madrid ❤
Priceless from the man who lives un Nice whose company is an Environmental leader in water pollution ans air pollution in INNIOS...
Good idea Jim, don’t expect the taxpayer to pay for it
He is delusional. Get them playing properly first. He wants a new stadium
And both can't be done at the same time because...?
needs a new stadium
@@mundolioknows6447imagine having a better stadium and still not an elite ucl team that's brutal
@@VJ592 imagine not being an elite UCL team but still having the largest home attendance in the country and largest fan base in the world....
Spurs hasnt won anything and got a brand new stadium
This is a billionaires who need state funding to build a new stadium..
10 Champions leagues??
Yes 10 . LIVERPOOL 6, MAN UTD 3 AND MAN CITY 1. THAT EQUALS TO 10
It might be a good idea, but there is no way everyone else in the country should pay for it! Come on Ratcliff, get your wallet out and pay your own bills - or is Man U so pathetic that it needs to be helped like the money-grabbing monarchy?
The way city are expanding the “stadium of the north” will be the Etihad. Not really a need for another one. Manchester utd are going to fall into mid table mediocrity
are u mental? they cant even fill a 50k stadium.
Yeah the council house of the north that they don’t own.
350 mil expansion, 60k capacity, state of the art facilities. World class training grounds across the road. Hotel, Athletics track. An old Trafford development wouldn’t even touch the sides
Soon 115 will be playing in front of 5,000 in the northern premier
@@ronakjoshi5198 the stadium will still be there
Guys on a vanity project. Thinks some else is going to pay for a stadium 😂 Ineos could never compete with Abu Dhabi, Qatar, or Saudi Arabia. United are done. M21 Red.
Waste of money
Glazer puppet
Love the idea of a Monaco living billionaire wanting to spend my tax money on his stadium. Sure mate social/nhs can take another for the team. Guy has no class
Clueless 🙈
Sir Jim is a glazer puppet
Is the the guy who was a big Brexit cheer leader but then went on to have the Grenadeer made in France?
