Taylor came on the country scene when there was no young girl’s perspective, it was so fun! She wrote Our Song when she was 14, I think she’s 16 or 17 in this video.
What’s really cool is the guitarist behind her with the AMAZING hair is still on stage with her at every show! Paul is amazing and has been with her from the beginning 💙
The shot where you see Taylor with her guitar player- that’s Paul Sidoti and he’s still with her today! And Amos Heller, the bassist has also been with her since ‘07. Taylor planned a break in the Eras tour to coincide with the birth of Paul’s child so that he’d get a couple months off with his wife and little ones. Very cool.
That’s interesting …I’m not familiar with Grant. I do know for sure that Paul has been with Taylor since 2007, touring with her during her pre-headliner days with her self titled debut album. Amos Heller has been around since then too. Crazy all these years later they’re still with her. Paul has the distinctive hair cut that he seems to keep throughout the years, so in the video it looks like a young Paul. I’ve not heard of Grant before now..I’ll have to look him up!
@@carolynnewcomb2153 Mickelson was lead guitarist on most of her early stuff including the Fearless and Speak Now tours. He is the guy who plays the John Meyer guitar riffs when she performs Dear John on the Speak Now World Tour which is available on youtube on the EAS Music Channel which also has the 1989 tour and the Reputation tour.
What's wild about this one is that Taylor wrote this by herself at 14 at school; imagine being a teacher and your 14 year old student gives you THIS. I would be gobsmacked beyond belief. One of the things I love about this song now is that it's one of the first songs in her discography, but still shows some of her trademarks that I love about her that she still does today. The way she seamlessly alters the perspective of the story so that it changes from "didn't kiss her" to "didn't kiss him". The icing on the cake is "grabbed a pen and an old napkin and wrote down our song", bringing it full circle in a brilliant way. When people suggest things like that Taylor is overrated or not talented, because they've heard a pop song that they don't like, I feel like they have to be directed to her debut album because to me it explains exactly why she has ended up where she has. It's really not every day that a 14 year old gets signed as a songwriter and releases their debut album of this quality two years later.
Her lyrical genius made COUNTLESS people refuse to believe she was writing her own music in the beginning. There’s a song also from this album called “The Outside” that she wrote at only 12 years old. It does have an innocent and young element to it, but it’s truly phenomenal and powerful. She responded to these accusations by having zero cowriters on her album Speak Now. Even though anyone who has written with Taylor all say the same thing; that they are more like a sounding board and at best an editor because everything from the lyrics to melody just pours out of her. Some people were truly born to do something specific and we are all so lucky Taylor pursued the thing she was absolutely made for.
A different youtube reactor who once saw Taylor as a young girl starting her career claimed he didn’t think Taylor would make it. However, a lot of other people on the industry have also commented on Taylor’s passion, persistence, and incredible work ethic, even at a young age, which is why she’s as big as she is now. She earned her place in the industry because she wanted it bad and she worked hard for it.
aw it seems that you are blushing the first time you’re retelling your story from your younger days. that’s why i love taylor songs so muccccch like she’s making me giggle or acting like a widow on the 1950s when in fact there is nothing is going on in my life.😅😅😅
An example of her cleverness and comedic timing, check out "Monologue Song" from her hosting SNL. It was the only time the writers and Lorne Michaels saw and allowed a guest host to walk in with a fully formed bit and just go live with it.
First comment! Day off ill today so TH-cam day 🙌 I hear she wrote this for her high school talent contest when she was 13/14?? And she insisted that it go in her debut album despite the label not ‘feeling it’. Turned out to be the most popular on the album. Still haven’t dug too much into Debut or Fearless yet… I am a new 2024 Swiftie 😅
It's funny you say that about her reminding you of Shania Twain. She was one of Taylor's inspirations and influences growing up. Faith Hill, Tim McGraw's wife, is the other influence. But I think it was mostly Shania because she was making music that was right in between pop and country whereas Faith Hill was more country. Throughout the years, Shania Twain has shown some love and respect to Taylor. Really admires her as an artist and songwriter. Faith Hill has been more quiet but when asked about Taylor she always says nice things about her. And to think about it, whenever I think country, old men come to mind. So when Taylor stepped onto the scene, she was young, new, fresh, different, more relatable to a younger audience and therefore being more sought after because she was this young, beautiful teen girl making some catchy tunes in country music. It created a shift for country music.
Izzy are you a shy guy??😉 Just kidding. Actually Shania Twain, Faith Hill and the Dixie Chicks influenced Taylor when she first started out. She looks like a little angel in this fun video that was released as a single in 2007. Good therapy session and reaction. ❤Stay safe

Same. It feels like group therapy. 😁
Thanks, Sherri! It's good to hear and I'll keep it up!

Yes she wrote it for the 9th grade talent show
What’s really cool is the guitarist behind her with the AMAZING hair is still on stage with her at every show! Paul is amazing and has been with her from the beginning 💙
Actually that is Grant Michelson who left before1989
Taylor actually has the lyric “if you fail to plan, you plan to fail” in her song Mastermind 🙌🏼
9:22 Izzy finding ways to ‘therapy’ us and pose great philosophical questions even in ‘Our Song’ 😅😂
Hahaha exactly ❤
Right!?! And he always does it so well- It’s literally his MO at this point!
Really glad you guys enjoy it! I enjoy doing it!

Cool stuff indeed!
It is Grant Mickelson. I do not believe that Paul had joined at this point
That’s interesting …I’m not familiar with Grant. I do know for sure that Paul has been with Taylor since 2007, touring with her during her pre-headliner days with her self titled debut album. It is unreal how young she was when she wrote these songs! So talented.

It’s so ironic because when they realised she was writing stuff herself they then said it was bad🤦🏽♀️
Unreal how much talent she already had such an early age. Love listening to your own experiences and references.
Thanks, Patricia!
You are keeping us fed with Taylor videos! I hope you're enjoying yourself as much as we're enjoying watching you! Thanks as always Izzy!!
I am loving it, Emily! And it's much more fun to be able to share it with you guys than watching on my own!
While you’re on the debut rabbit hole, her track 5 Cold as You is still one of my favorites to this day!

Taylor is something going on, Dina! Glad you have her! Love to ya!
Taylor loved Shania! She speaks about how Shania was an inspiration to her.

interesting! I'll check that out.
I think she wrote this for her 9th grade talent show! Her first album has at least one song she wrote at age 12 🤯 mad talented from the get go
she wrote this song when she was 12!!!
This song or "You Belong With Me" are 100% the songs people sing/hum along to... they're just fun.
First comment! Day off ill today so TH-cam day 🙌

Girl always had that pen game. For sure!☺️🙏
Thanks for the reaction. 😊
I’m probably a tad older than her mother and it’s been interesting to see her literally evolve from beginning to today.

Some interesting observations, Yvette! Would Dolly Parton be considered country? I get that it was mostly old men though.
Luv your thoughtful British reactions. 😊
Shania Twain was a big influence on Taylor when she was starting out.
i didnt speak English when this song first came out but i wish i did! i would've been all over it. i love it its so fun
I hope you decide to view How Did It End off of TTPD Anthology!!! She has a lyric video for it!!
I am planning on it!
@ yay!! Thank you! I really enjoy your reaction videos and how contemplative they are!
Not my fav era but huge props to a 14 year old TS who wrote this
