    This is so Cool! With technology evolving, I'm glad that MIT is taking a step in order to create new instruments or help enhance the experience

      @@davidsantiagogarciachicang3268 I do recording, mix/mastering and composition as well. Nothing related to my line of work though :)

      @@just_jimmy I see haha. But that's great! I have a music group call Old House and we do "modern" music with our classical instruments. So far, we've made some records but I'd like to try new things, specially ways to mix music and technology.

    Ooh! I'd love to learn more about different creations you guys make in that class. I really love music but I'm thinking about becoming an engineer so I'll have to consider taking a course like this in the future!

    Okay. You've won me over. Where do I apply. I live in England? I have been a performing beatboxer for the last 19yrs. I would love to get involved in the new tech in music and maybe add my expertise and skills.

    A paid course can teach you a lot about a subject, but you can't buy creativity.

      Work hard, do extra-curricular activities, and don't hesitate to make use of the huge expanse of educational tools on the internet to learn skills and reinforce knowledge. But at the end of the day, just as they say on their website, make sure not to stake everything on getting into MIT. Good luck!

    Can any of them actually play a song---you know, on an instrument unencumbered by technological bric a brac?

    • @churlesjenkins4338
      @churlesjenkins4338 5 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      It's pretty unlikely that none of these students know how to play an instrument or else they wouldn't be bringing in cellos and guitars. Just because you know how to physically play an instrument doesn't make you a good composer/songwriter. Music is very diverse and the mindset that somebody has to know how to play the piano before they can create good music is counter-productive. Remember, your ears are what you use to listen. If it sounds good, it's good. Would I recommend learning an instrument first? Yeah probably. But how many artists in the 80s used synths? More than I can count on my fingers and toes but you have to learn how to shape your own sounds on a synth before you get what you want, whereas with a guitar the sound is already there, you just physically have to learn how to play it. Everything has it's own benefits along with their own learning curves but at the end of the day if you think its enjoyable to listen to that's all that matters. Creativity is creativity.
