  • Christine at Appelboom Pens asked me to create a short video about the 3 fountain pens that I use the most. I use 2 fountain pens - a Noodler's Creeper pen and a Kaweco AC Sport and a hybrid pen which is a dip pen with a fountain pen feed called a Serendipity. Function and affordability are the key factors for me. That said, if I had the money to....

I love your art and your calm, wonderful way of instruction. I hope one day to be able to afford one of your classes. Until then, I appreciate your instructional videos and blog articles

It looks like a creaper but I beleive you have the flex nib first Noodlers pen demonstrator that eventually became the creaper with slight variation. As one can see from the beginning writing sample it railroads at 0:33 and 0:41 of the video and needs more pressure for line variation than the other ebonite feed models like the konrad or ahab. In your case that railroad effect might be disired and considered a happy mistake. Love your work its truly stunning.

Why do you use the Noodler's Creeper as a dip pen instead of using an actual dip pen? Wouldn't an actual dip pen function better?

There are a few reasons. It's convenient to both write with and illustrate with the Creaper. The dip pen with zebra G isn't always a great writing pen. The feed on the Creaper holds more ink than a dip pen. In the spirit of what I'm doing, the fountain pen as an illustration tool fits well with the idea of re-imaging ink. The zebra G nib does have a habit of tearing the paper surface whereas the the Creaper is more gentle. I'm just preferring it to the dip pen nowadays.

@@NickStewartInkArt Interesting! When you write with the Creaper, do you use the ink cartridge or do you still use it as a dip pen? In any case, you've inspired me to pick up a Creaper. I'm excited to start experimenting with what it can do.

@@dan.0 it’s a piston filler and yes! When writing I sometimes fill it up!
