- Coronavirus (COVID-19) nursing review of the symptoms, causes, and prevention measures.
COVID-19 stands for coronavirus disease in 2019. It is a new type of coronavirus that was first discovered in December 2019 in Wuhan, China.
The name "coronavirus" is a term used to describe a large set of respiratory type viruses. Therefore, they are several types of coronaviruses. Over the past decade or so, there have been other coronavirus outbreaks throughout the world. This includes the SARS (severe acute respiratory syndrome) and MERS (middle east respiratory syndrome) outbreak.
Coronaviruses originate from infected animals and can be passed from animals to humans, which will then spread human to human. When this occurs it is termed a zoonotic spillover event. MERS started in Saudi Arabia and originated from camels. While SARS started in China and originated from civet cats. COVID-19 started in Wuhan, China and the origin is currently unknown.
COVID-19 symptoms include: fever, cough, shortness of breath, fatigue, sore throat etc. To be diagnosed with COVID-19 a real-time PCR test must be used. This will assess and detect the genetic material of the COVID-19 virus (SARS-CoV-2).

How do l turn on close caption?
currently studying for this 3 years later because it is now in my nursing med surg book and will be on my exam. Oh how times have changed! little did we know how crazy things would get.
Thanks for the video ... you’re such an awesome teacher . I passed my Nclex Rn on Saturday, all thanks to you and God.
chisom mbah congratulations
Congratulations!!!!😁 That's awesome!
Ask God if he can stop the coronavirus!
That's awesome!! Congrats. =)
Hello! I just saw your comment and wanted to congratulate you. Nursing can be a great experience once you get passed the politics. Just remember that the patients are what is most important.
I'm and RN (Thanx to Nurse Sarah!) and I love these well thought out, accurate, and lucid presentations....who could ask for anything more?….Not to mention, Nurse Sarah has to be the most charming Nurse/Educator on the planet! (and yes....I'm an old guy...but my girlfriend and my older sister (both Nurses with a lot of experience) feel the same way. Nurse Sarah, keep up the good work and thanx again for helping all of us! You are the best!
James ClemU me too she helped me a lot during my studies thanks nurse sarah
Unfortunately, I dropped out of nursing school but your videos are STILL my go to videos. Thank you for all the wonderful work you do. Please, everyone, stay safe and healthy, If you get ill, hope recovery is not long and is uncomplicated
Did you go back to nursing school?
Thank you Sarah. I passed my nclex with 75 questions. Your helped me a lot. More power.
congrats
Thanks for your precious time and all the efforts to save humanity.
May the good Lord reward you generously.
Miss Sarah. You’re a fantastic presenter and you did awesome with your whiteboard. Thank you... even though it’s tough for any country to have accurate numbers right now when there isn’t a straightforward quit results test available to everyone, cause to know the real numbers they have to test everyone especially the carriers
I watched earlier a Italian doctor that was a few days ago about not having all accurate numbers. Most of the numbers and outcome predictions are coming from where it all started and.... y’all know not everyone gets tested. I forgot what the numbers are for South Korea with their drive through testing is a percentage and it’s only those that are driving. I can’t imagine those on public transportation are using that mode to go get tested. They’ll probably have to go to every street corner and announce on loud speaker via a drone for people to get tested. There’s also a need for those doing the testing to have online forms to be filled out for each person and then they can scan a QR code take a picture of the person for the QR code and print the labels for the tests and people get the results along with their personal doctors getting the updates of ongoing self care data at home such as symptoms on a scale along with home monitoring temperature taking and perhaps breathing exercises to expand the lungs and to know how much and how long it’s taking to get air in and out for timed breathing. I’ll bet our phones could measure the exhaled air by using the built in microphone
Again
Thank you Sarah for a great presentation.
I rarely see people covering their mouth when the cough or sneeze....inconsiderate people and careless as well.
El Shaddai I’m a nurse and you’d be surprised how many people cough in my face and think nothing of it!😖
El Shaddai Ewwww I always cover my mouth sometimes a cough comes before i can but i always try to catch it in the middle of my cough
I’m a waitress, and you would be shocked to see how some people are. A couple of months ago, two regular customers came in sicker than hell, complaining about how bad they felt. One even blew his nose on the napkin and put it on his dirty plate for me to clean up! I ended up getting sick 2 days later. I still get mad when I think about it.
@@HalfwayJac Omg!
I've actually seen someone in the underground station sneezing on a fucking infant's face and not covering his mouth, absolutely stupid!
Interesting lecture. I am a nurse in New York City and I'm currently taking care of covid-19 patients. I'm going to pass on your lecture to some of my colleagues.
Thank you for your service. I hope all is well and you are safe.

Thanks a lot, Sarah!! I was accepted for a nursing program last year but I had to drop out of the program because of covid(I could not go to the clinic bc I have a low immune husband). luckily, the nursing dept held my seat for this fall. So, I have been watching your videos for preparing for this fall semester. Really you are talented! I finished all prenursing in 2015 so I hardly remembered the basic A&P. HOWEVER, the way you teach, really helps me to recall all A&P I forgot ....You are blessed for teaching even as a foreigner I do clearly understand. Thanks
Thank you for making this informative video! I’m currently in nursing school and they canceled our classes and moved everything online bc of this virus. Also there are tons of rumors about possibly becoming quarantined nation wide. This helped ease my concerns.
Off topic: but loving your hair and makeup!! To all the nursing students: study, live, and breathe by Sarah's videos! Passed my NCLEX first time at 60 because of her
Thanks for this information ..God help the world..take care everyone.
Thanks Sarah for this great information about covid-19. Just been wondering what the signs are to watch for! Now I’m well acquainted with it. Let’s all get acquainted and protect others lives. Thanks again.

Our Clinical's have all been cancelled for the whole semester! Here at the hospital I work they are screening before we are able to clock in. This is scary!
The virus outbreak has caused so much discrimination and physical assaults on Asians living in the west. It is heart breaking. No one deserves this.
First I've heard of this. Sounds like the uninformed are scared again. Must be watching MSNBC.
I live in area where a lot of Asians reside (Southern California) and I have yet to witness any discrimination or physical assult yet. I bet some people think it but they have yet to act on it around me lol.
I live in Southern California, this is fake news, no one is being assaulted. Its not ok to lie for the sake of being a sjw.
fr be Asian people in NY are being assaulted. Watch the news.
All you needed to do was google it you ignorant dumbasses time.com/5797836/coronavirus-racism-stereotypes-attacks/

As a Chinese, on behalf of China, I would like to my express deep apologies to the people of the world!
Why are you apologizing? Just because you're Chinese doesn't mean it's your fault.
@@usernamesarehard1475
Not your fault, China dealt with this better than any other country.
Outbreaks occur every now and again no need for apologies stay safe and protected
Soliris IV Stop believing the democrats propaganda. Nobody is blaming Chinese people.
Hey man it's okay, as long as we stay at home the coronavirus will cease
Hi Sarah, Thanks so much for this video. I'e been practicing as a peds/PICU nurse for over twenty years; I recently earned my DNP; and I'm currently the staff educator. I really enjoy your videos. Sometimes I just listen to them in my office because I find them soothing. Anyway, I'm off to review with PHN the correct way to obtain NP swabs. Would it be possible to have a short video on this as I'm sure there are many who would benefit.
Nurse Josie

Hi sara i love u congrats on your pregnancy .Keep well i watch almost everyday!!!
Thanks a lot, I ve a better clear understanding of coronavirus.
For mild cases, how long does it normally take for them to recover? Its hard finding information online that isn't just bare basics or panic. Thank you as always!!
Here in the Netherlands our national insitute for public health states that data is lacking for most mild cases, probably because most of them haven't even been detected as a COVID-19 infection. Anecdotal reports state it takes days for symptoms to dissapear in mild cases. It seems very much akin influenza, in which severe cases are prolonged due to superinfections, ARDS and what not. But mild cases can be as mild as a common cold.
Jackie it depends but I’ve heard around a month
Don't be worried puipuii you people in India have 80% a hot weather. I think it thrives in Cold.
Dear Very informative videos being a Physicist I appreciate to you madam
I will Testing Nursing school soon.
Thank you so much for this informative video as well as the photos; visuals are helpful, too
Thanks for a great inf, keep the work UP.
Just looking at u had my infection cured instantly!!! Wow, insane!
im not afraid of covid19, im afraid because while im watching your video my heart beats so fast for you. 😍😍😍
Is having only a low fever a possible symptom? I've had a temperature of 98.8 (morning) to 100.0 (night) for the past 10 days, but no cough or other symptoms. I do feel a little tired, but no more than usual from getting only about 6 hours of sleep each night.
Thank you so much for this informative video!
Sara!!! Bless to you and your baby!!
