There is nothing more beautiful than a cappella vocals done by people with beautiful voices! You get to hear the human voice used, not only for delivering the lyrics, but also as musical instruments.
Kirsten is the most underrated member, her high register cuts through the harmony and anchors the high range with a pure, bright female tone. Mitch's counter tenor is amazing too but he's on the falsetto side whereas Kirsten is a bit more natural and pure. Mitch can shine in certain ranges where a high, almost electronic sound is required like Blinding lights and Daft Punk but Kirsten is so rich and solid with her forward voice. Scott is the next underrated, his tone and expression is so rich and smooth, he switches from a softer raspy subdued tone to a rich forward placement effortlessly as well as filling in as bass when Matt or Avi is singing.
@@severusreynolds5247 No actually, Scott cannot sing deeper than Matt, otherwise Scott would be the "new" bass man in Pentatonix😂. So does for Mitch, he cannot "sing" higher than Bb5. From that aspect, Scott do have the widest range in PTX, at least that's what himself, Mitch and Avi said in some interviews years ago. I believe from their understanding, vocal range = the notes you can apply into singing. If let the vocal range = any pitch you can hit, then I don't think thier vocal range will be so impressive for so many people. Because many people can shout or squeak a really high pitch sound, or bubble a quite low note. But when it comes to singing, everyone knows that there is no way somebody can sing so beautifully at that high as Mitch or at that low as Avi.
Their video is basically what the last few minutes of earth would look and sound like before the apocalypse hit. It's like they are so into it that they are like singing for their lives. Like someone has a gun to their heads. Just so much passion. I always say if you are gonna sing, sing with your whole being or not at all because I don't want to hear a flat performance of a powerful song. I want to feel the song not hear it. I felt this song. I felt it a lot to the point that it nearly gave me an existential crisis. Love your reactions to them as well Tara. Love your analysis and how you break down the technical side of it all. I would love you to react to more PTX videos and maybe stuff that ate side and solo projects from individual members of the group.
True, im a singer, and my parents always told me to sing with my all. But im not literally doing what they say, im also doing it for myself, because i also want to really feel the song and its message
Pentatonix is an example of how to have succes with talent and hard work. These people don't need a band or instruments, because all they need are THEIR VOICES! Every time i listen to them, i have goosebumps. They are fantastic!
I found Pentatonix several months ago. I just discovered you tonight. With everything that has happened these past twelve months, I consider these two blessings. My life just got a little better. Thank you.
My personal favorite part of this cover is the arrangement. It is very smart. A great example of how smart it is can be seen in Mat's verse. On the line voices never shared, there is no way Mat would sound good on the high A in that line. Giving that line to Mitch while Mat took the harmony was a very smart idea.
You are so very correct. Their arrangements are S.I.C.K. Then add in the talent and hard work every one of them brings to the group, and it's no wonder that when they do a song, 99% of the time, it's incredible. They have an amazing ability to wring out the emotion from every song they do: Joyous, sad, dance beat, whatever. You. Will. Feel. It. I will say though that out of the original and remakes of this song, I like Disturb's the most, but this version is still (as you show us) a master-class of how to sing right.
Truly one of their best arrangements to date and I get CHILLS everytime Scott sings his verse at the end. I find the analysis of their vocals fascinating and truly enjoy your channel. Thank you for reacting to this masterpiece. It is my favorite arrangement they have put out since Matt joined the group. 🥰
Your reactions are not just reactions - they're educational sessions. Notes about phrasing, about tone, about stylistic choices and arrangement choices, about embouchure. Really great stuff!
I am far from a musician or even further... but I came here to find out if I am dreaming with the perfection I hear from Pentatonix. You explained it perfectly even for my low knowledge of music you made it very clear to me. Thank you
This is actually the first time I watch one of those "vocalcoach reacts ..." videos and actually feel like the person has real expertise to offer. Great Video, Tara. :D
The passion in your reaction Tara believe it or not, brought me to shed a few tears. When your passion for music comes out with that much excitement. Well makes me happy cause I feel that way to.. Brothers and sisters in music. PTX took me too church.
As a person who's not a singer it's really interesting to watch these videos and it makes me appreciate what Pentatonix does even more... Oh I'll definitely be fangirling over and listening to Pentatonix for the next months... Especially over Christmas it's even appropriate for me to put the music on loud without risking people frown at occasionally added christmas songs... C:
****IMPRESSIVE DOESN'T EVEN COME CLOSE, TO DESCRIBING HOW INCREDIBLE THIS A CAPELLA GROUP IS, & I CANT EVEN THINK OF A WORD GOOD ENOUGH TO EXPRESS. HOW INSANELY GOOD THEY ARE!!!****
I’ve been waiting since Feb 15 for you to do this reaction. For me, this was Kirstin’s best performance to date. But my favorite moment in the song, and this may sound funny, is Scott coming through on a amazing note above everyone else on the very last “Sound” at the end of the song. Gives me chills. IMHO, this is PTX’s best cover yet. 💜
I hear something new every time I listen to this song. Today, it’s the backup (Kirsten, I think) who emphasizes the word “light” immediately after Mitch says “flash of the neon light” Sounds like, “flash of the neon light-liGHT” that split the night. So beautiful.
Scott's bass! Kirstin has improved so much. She had some bad technique habits up until fairly recently that she's obviously been working on eliminating with an experienced vocal coach. I haven't seen her infamous side-jaw in ages. Great reaction and analysis as always Tara!
Nope, it’s because she had a vocal coach working with her for her solo Album. That was when it disappeared! I kinda miss it, but it wasn’t good for her singing...
Scott always did this even with Avi. Check out Carrol of the Bells and you can see he's doing it while Avi is singing. Also during most times when Avi, or now Matt, are singing.
Just found you yesterday and I'm usually not impressed with vocal coaches in general because I've always just sung by natural inclination which involves the song moving me to do certain things emotionally etc. Usually, analysis isn't part of that because emotion is a spontaneous reaction for me, not an analysis. Having said that, I started to find your analysis spot on about certain things and your perception of what we are doing is quite keen. Even to understanding how certain styles work etc. You are indeed an exception. But I still feel like there are certain gifts we are born with and can't be taught, but I suppose they can be enhanced for sure. But Pentatonix? They are not from another planet, they are from another universe lol! NO one like them. At all. Not even close. Each one is so gifted, but their real gift is knowing how to take all that treasure and display it in the museum so that we mortals are just simply dazzled by it. I visit the museum often, and as a fellow musician, I don't visit many museums over and over again because I've seen most of it many times. But their museum? Oh my!
I just came across this group yesterday and I’m obsessed. They are so so so so so amazing. I can’t put it into words. Their voices are RIDICULOUSLY AMAZING, wow just wow
The Official Video is the only version available right now. There should be live versions available once they start their tour, as I expect this song to be one of the highlights of their setlist.
As someone who went to an overly-snobby classical voice school, I am thoroughly impressed with your attention to detail, both vocally and artistically. You're clearly paying attention to everything without dumbing it down for the audience, and I absolutely love that. Definitely subbed.
This reminds me of the PTX / Dolly Parton collaboration on Jolene. I've loved Pentatonix since their early TH-cam days. They're amazing. When I watched Jolene and heard how much Parton brought to the song over and above them... I never really appreciated Dolly Parton (a legend most popular before my time) until seeing that contrast.
Please react to the official video of Superfruit's (Scott & Mitch) cover of "The Promise" originally performed by the UK pop band "When in Rome" back in 1988. Both aurally and visually it has a fantabulous '80s pop feel.
Scott and Mitch both have such amazing voices, I could listen to them everyday. Was stoked to see them live in August, if you get the chance to see them live definitely do it.
Great reaction Tara! I liked how this video featured Scott starting off in his lower register and then Matt and Kirstin singing in their higher registers. Lots of pleasant surprises. As for Mitch and Kevin, ... what can I say? Their talent shines through on this video as it does on every video. All together PTX is a formidable package. Loved it.
Tara Simon, your ability to notice and point out certain things is amazing. I can definitely see your love and passion for music and performance, which is so heart-warming. You are just amazing - Well Done!
Woo! I have been a Pentaholic since the Sing-Off. However, this song blew me away. Please react to Citizen Queen - Evolution of Girl Groups. They are produced by Scott Hoying and Ben Bram :)
I went to one of their concerts. IT WAS THE BEST THING IN THE WORLD. I really hope you got to go to one of them and see them live. Best experience of my life.
I went to a Pentatonix concert for the 1st time last summer. They are truly "off the chain"! One of the few groups that sound better live than recorded! Definitely going to another one next time they're in town!
I have been waiting for your reaction to this one! 💗 I know you're going to break it all down and I really like it cause I learn about the techniques they're using. I noticed them going to and holding out the "N" instead of the vowel. I just didn't know what it was about. I noticed that Scott didn't do one single riff or run, and I actually liked that choice for this number. I'm so glad you said that Matt fits in well with the rest of the group, and welcomed him! Earlier I heard a reactor say that Matt doesn't fit in with them, and he wished he'd leave. 😠 I thought that was an awful thing to say and completely untrue. I educated him on the error of his ways... he doesn't even know what he's talking about. YOU, however DO know what you're talking about, and you said Matt fits in well in the group! thank you for a lovely breakdown of the techniques and choices they made!
I really recommend headphones for Pentatonix and Home Free to really appreciate the bass. Yes, it messes up your hair but the experience is worth it. Trust me.
Listening to you sing is so amazing, your voice is so strong and powerful and delicate and graceful, it shows how much you love and enjoy music and those who express themselves through it, thank you for doing what you do and who you are.
I truly don’t think that anyone in PTX is under appreciated anymore and I don’t think Scott ever was. From the Sing Off, he was put forward as the spokesperson and did the majority of the lead songs, but from a Pentaholic perspective, I have witnessed when we all started to appreciate each of them individually. We were wowed by Mitch’ Voice first. Then Avi. Always Scott then, one day we started to pay attention to what Kevin was doing and were So Amazed! Finally, people who formerly stated that Kirstin was the weakest link, woke up and saw the amount of work she was doing to make the harmony sound flawless, and her solo projects boosted her confidence, then began to see/hear how amazing her voice is too AND appreciate her range, no one on this group is under appreciated, because they are all SO FABULOUS! Now Matt is here. We have already had glimpses of his range, the soulful rich melody of his voice and of course his Bass notes. There is so much more to look forward to with him, but they’re ALL fully appreciated for what they do and how they do it! I love that they all get a chance to vocally shine in songs! That’s what makes them so good. They work together really well and that shows too! Pentatonix is an amazing group that no one is underestimating or under appreciating! (Sermon over). 😉🤗
"Yes unison!" It also helps that the main 3 vocalists have known each other since they were kids, so having that connectivity to each other's voices helps with unison. Matt is a wonderful addition to the group as much as we miss Avi! Loved it and your video!
I literally put notifications on for you because I was waiting for this and you didn't disappoint! I absolutely love how you break things down and I always learn something new from watching you!
I've seen them live twice, once when they first started touring and again last year. I highly recommend it. They are every bit as good live as they are in canned videos.
Yes! Yes! Yes! I've been waiting for this since you reacted for Disturbed! I absolutely looooove not just your lovely reaction but how you unpack what makes PTX and others singers awesome. I await for your new videos and learn more from you.
Tara, this is wonderful and really fun. Pentatonix is my favorite group (they actually trumped Lady Gaga, if you can believe that) and your critique was spot on, IMHO. It's really impressive how positive you are, and how you mixed both vocal terminology and music theory into your discussion, all while keeping it very easy to understand for someone who isn't as musically inclined (I am). You used very practical explanations, especially when it came to describing Kirsti's use of "m" without closing her mouth. I've done plenty of gushing about Pentatonix, so this gushing is all for you, Tara. Your treatment is, well, special. Thank you!
Pentatonix has spawned dozens of different youtubers that react to their songs. I have to say that your videos are, by far and away, the most detailed, informative, and enjoyable to watch. Thanks so much for sharing your professional analysis and insights!
omg I'm so happy that you did a cover of Pentatonix's version!!! I actually JUST last night suggested it on your reaction to the Disturbed version and seeing it up today was like "omg this is meta" THANKYOUTHANKYOUTHANKYOU When I watched it the first time I was just like your reaction right at the start. I never knew Scott to go down to the basement like that! He's usually a lighter singer, but it's so cool to hear his voice that low. I love Disturbed's version and I was excited to see Pentatonix covering it. As someone else in the comments said, Disturbed's version is sounding more ominous, where Pentatonix makes it sound defiant and even hopeful. You know how people say music can affect someone's mental state? I think that if someone who was in depression or pretty down low, if they heard this it may help bring them up gently, hearing this version may make them think, "hey I'm gonna follow this, bust through this crap" and start to be more proactive for themselves.
I love your commentary and find your analysis highly educational...esp as a non-musician/singer who is deaf in one ear. I appreciate you pointing out what I should listen for so I can "hear" and appreciate their creative genius + technically how they literally create "music for my ears". Cheers!
Notification squaaaddd!!! I just discovered Nicole Scherzinger singing Don't Cry For Me Argentina and it would be cool to see you react to her. Also it wold be cool to see tou react to some legendary performances by the great divas like Céline Dion
So glad I saw your reaction to this, you are the first person who explained the why/how their sound is so awesome without making it about you, just the music.
I’m obviously late to the party, but I wanted to leave a quick comment. A few weeks back I had the pleasure of listening to evensong at St Paul’s cathedral in London. The blended harmonics of the choir in that space is something I’ll never forget. In the quieter moments of this rendition when the intensity was pulled back, that same floating sound I heard at St Paul’s was back in my ears. The repeated building and pulling back also allowed me to live more fully in each moment of excellence these singers brought to this performance. Glorious sound!
I can see that you "FEEL" the music!! There are some special songs that take me through different emotions and this is truly one of them. So for anyone reading this, if you see someone that just gets up and starts to dance, don't shame them.....they are just "feeling" the music and sometimes, you can't do anything except respond to that feeling.
I love love LOVE your videos on Pentatonix's music! You give such an interesting and in depth reaction! I also love that you give criticism as well because praise is nice, but I personally, like seeing your criticism because not only does it give a new fresh perspective, it's also informative! Which I love cause I'm trying to better my singing voice! So thanks so much for doing these videos, Tara! Much appreciated! :)
I was waiting for you to react to this. I grew up with the Simon and Garfunkel version and I never thought anyone else could do as good of a job but Pentatonix took it to the next level! Every time I listen to this I am brought to tears! Pentatonix has never disappointed me. Thank you for explaining how they create the sounds and why. I learn a lot from you.
They're really amazing. Sometimes you hear certain people and you have to say, they're the best. Each one of them are amazing in their own rite, but together they're quite literally 5 times better.

You have a very good point with the M with Kirsten. She does that alot, but also its hard to close your lips on an M when you're smiling without looking like you're grimacing. She smiles when she sings alot. Shows her love for singing
I think what made it so perfect in the beginning with him focusing on the “N” on friend was that it really kept the resonance very strong and that was just perfect.
You can REALLY tell how much Kirstin has been working on her tone. So much more rich and full sounding in this one than the thin but pretty tone shes always been known for. Love ittttt
If you haven't dont it already, you should do Pentatonix's Run to You. The harmonies are so, so gorgeous, and the song itself is so emotional and beautiful.
What a disservice!! When Matt closed his verse and dropped from a natural voice to super deep all you said was "wow". More like *WOW* Freakin' flawless!! :) Edit: the way you react at the end with mouthing the lyrics and flailing your arms is how I react everytime I hear this song except staring @ 0:01
Rob Hodge, I saw another vocal coach react to this video, and she didn’t even say that much about Matt dropping that octave. I suspect she might have missed it because she was commenting on something before it. I mentioned it in a comment on her video, but she hasn’t replied.
I couldn't agree more. It was Matt earning his bass chops. He's been welcomed into the Pentaholic family, but that drop takes him out of the "give him a chance", and puts him squarely in the "I deserve this" category.
@@Dextergec413 That's a nonsense statement on several levels. 1.) Everyone loves Avi, for sure, but even Avi would congratulate Matt on a phenomenal job. His voice is absolutely to be touted. 2.) A drop from high to low like that is a tremendous skill and anyone who can perform at that level is certainly par for the others in the group. 3.) To speak anything less than glowing remarks about Matt is a slap in the face of the rest of the group. They chose him. They know, as a group, what they needed; the character and skill sets that would most surely fill that space. Matt Salle is an outstanding performer with the right energy and pipes worthy of being a member of Pentatonix.

Because many people can shout or squeak a really high pitch sound, or bubble a quite low note. But when it comes to singing, everyone knows that there is no way somebody can sing so beautifully at that high as Mitch or at that low as Avi.
Scott also was singing Avi'd part during his solo
I’m glad you recognized Kirsten, she seems to get little attention
Firewall Dragon yes!! agreed!
I'm super impressed by Kirstie's vibrato but nobody ever mentions it lol. She shined in this song. Soooo good.
I wish you talked a bit about that vibrato on those crazy high notes that Mitch and Kirstie belted. That's hard, and rare to hear!
Thats cuz she talks a lot about those in other videos
I've never been able to drop vibrato from those notes. It's interesting how people are surprised by hearing it.
Your reactions are not just reactions - they're educational sessions. Notes about phrasing, about tone, about stylistic choices and arrangement choices, about embouchure. Really great stuff!
Please react to their cover of Gold. It’s live and Mitch is amazing.
Yes. The Kiiara cover for Gold.
Its amazing!!!❤️
YESSS
I have to agree. Sooo good.
Yes please!
I am far from a musician or even further...
but I came here to find out if I am dreaming with the perfection I hear from Pentatonix.
You explained it perfectly even for my low knowledge of music you made it very clear to me. Thank you
These people are talented to a degree that my brain just doesn't get...so good! 😲
Matt's got such an amazing range (Mitch too, love them all but Matt always impresses me)
Right!
Tara Simon looking lovely today great reaction to the song Sound of Silences from the Pentatnoix
Eric Gaudet it’s just Pentatonix, not the Pentatonix
lol were still having to fight the battle. LOL
This feels wholesome
This is actually the first time I watch one of those "vocalcoach reacts ..." videos and actually feel like the person has real expertise to offer. Great Video, Tara. :D
The passion in your reaction Tara believe it or not, brought me to shed a few tears. When your passion for music comes out with that much excitement. Well makes me happy cause I feel that way to.. Brothers and sisters in music. PTX took me too church.
Your reactions are always so genuine and you’re so insightful in the way you speak.
I would love it if you could react to the Penatonix cover of Gold. It is done in a "live" session and is fantastic as always.
Please watch the original Kiiara version first if you arent familiar with it.
YES
Omg yes I love that video I have watched it so many times
YEEESSS
Bro, I found a brand new respect for Mitch on that one. Did the autotune better than the original
3:15 hey Kevin 😂
The +4! Also just visually, he's standing in the middle, which matches where his note sits in the chord. It's pretty great.
I hear something new every time I listen to this song. Today, it’s the backup (Kirsten, I think) who emphasizes the word “light” immediately after Mitch says “flash of the neon light”
Sounds like, “flash of the neon light-liGHT” that split the night.
I read somewhere that she was born with something that caused it and she got rid of it with surgery
@@dadadunlol6079 yes, she was born with a cleft Palate
@@chandreyeejackson5 what?
Can we talk about Scott's bass while Matt's singing solo?! 😍
Notice that Scott was singing bass during Matt’s part. I think that was really cool!
Y..e..s!!
That's right, cause Matt's a true baritone...
Oh my!
The unison, harmony, unison ending was great as well as Scott's use of his lower register in this song.
Kirstin, Mitch, Scott, Matt, Kevin! They are amazing! Best cover for me!
Yesssss!!! Tara, please react to Citizen Queennnn!!!!
Yesss, please react to the girls!
Don't forget producer Shams Ahmed.
YES, we need a Citizen Queen reaction!
YES PLEASE!!!! 👸🏾👸🏻👸🏼👸🏻👸🏾🙌
I went to one of their concerts. IT WAS THE BEST THING IN THE WORLD. I really hope you got to go to one of them and see them live. Best experience of my life.
Would love you to react to Pentatonix live performance of Aha! at Singapore, The Star Vista
PLEASE
PLEEEASE
PLEEEEASE
angejka a another must for any Pentatonix fan!
Please
Every song they sing gives me goosebumps. Legit never fails. They are an absolutely fabulous group.
YEEES! Thank you, Tara! Love you and Pentatonix!♥️♥️♥️♥️
Trust me.
Absolutely love this cover and hearing you break it down! Goosebumps every time!
Listening to you sing is so amazing, your voice is so strong and powerful and delicate and graceful, it shows how much you love and enjoy music and those who express themselves through it, thank you for doing what you do and who you are.
Thank you-- I feel like Scott is sometimes underappreciated. Great reaction!!
@@caroleceres Great analysis of the team
7:45 "Yaaas unisonnnn" was the cutest thing I've seen her do
It’s probably my burgeoning “get of my lawn” old man mindset, but I lose respect for anyone who honestly says “yaaas”
YES!!!!!! Could you react to either Pentatonix Natural Disaster live or Avi Kaplan’s Overtone singing?
What?
Omg that low tone of Avi still gives me chills 😻😂
"Yes unison!" It also helps that the main 3 vocalists have known each other since they were kids, so having that connectivity to each other's voices helps with unison. Matt is a wonderful addition to the group as much as we miss Avi! Loved it and your video!
I literally put notifications on for you because I was waiting for this and you didn't disappoint! I absolutely love how you break things down and I always learn something new from watching you!
Their version of Say Something is one of my favorites. It's incredible.
Please please please react to their cover of Gold. It's incredible. You should react to more of their older ones - their more "popular" ones.
Thank you!
Please do “Sound of Silence” and “Black is the Color or my True Loves Hair” -both by Peter Hollens official videos please!
I actually JUST last night suggested it on your reaction to the Disturbed version and seeing it up today was like "omg this is meta" THANKYOUTHANKYOUTHANKYOU
When I watched it the first time I was just like your reaction right at the start.
Yes! I'm so excited to see this! I love their version.
Simply put. Thank you. Best reactor on TH-cam.
This. Is. So. True!
Suzanne Cole-Rice, have you seen Disturbed’s rendition? It’s very powerful, especially with his official video.
I wish more people appreciated Scott taking over the bass role when Matt has his solo lmao
They're really amazing. Sometimes you hear certain people and you have to say, they're the best. Each one of them are amazing in their own rite, but together they're quite literally 5 times better.
so i came back to ptx after a while and i clicked on sound of silence and that was the best choice ive ever made💀. it was also the first time hearing matts voice and it was beautiful!! matts solo was definitely my favorite
You have a very good point with the M with Kirsten. She does that alot, but also its hard to close your lips on an M when you're smiling without looking like you're grimacing. She smiles when she sings alot. Shows her love for singing
please react to citizen queen as well it is a girl acapella group put together by scott
I think what made it so perfect in the beginning with him focusing on the “N” on friend was that it really kept the resonance very strong and that was just perfect.
Black is the color of my true loves hair -Peter Holland Ft. Avi Kaplan
You can REALLY tell how much Kirstin has been working on her tone. So much more rich and full sounding in this one than the thin but pretty tone shes always been known for. Love ittttt
I freakin love your reactions to pentatonix. We feel you gurl. We feel you.
Edit: the way you react at the end with mouthing the lyrics and flailing your arms is how I react everytime I hear this song except staring @ 0:01
He's no AVI! :)
@@AOMartialArts Relax bro, i was poking fun hence the :). Get your finger off that trigger lol
