Thank you so much, this video was so helpful! I’m about to start Kendo and I’m trying to learn the basics. Good thing I found your channel, because you have a video explaining everything I’ll need to know!
So, I'm new here, and very new to trying to practice kendo. I'm mostly limited to TH-cam videos at the moment. Firstly, thank you for the great explanation. Secondly, I have a question. When it comes to keeping the heel slightly off the ground, is there a trick to practicing that? I have mild Cerebral Palsy that needed surgery so that I can walk heel to toe and retraining my brain to walk like that. Otherwise, I struggle with walking as a very conscious act, and, sometimes, if I get too anxious about how to walk in a wide open room without a handhold or carrying something, I freeze up and immediately feel off balance. I used to walk constantly when I lived in Dublin, but now find myself in a very rural area, due to 2020. Learning about fencing helped me get the ability to walk back, and learning about kendo is helping me balance better again. But, I want to make sure that when I start practicing stepping in earnest, I have good form and am hoping that my corrective surgery wouldn't impact that. Specifically, in case it helps, the surgery was almost 20 years ago, roughly, and my Achilles tendons needed to be lengthened, as well as a hamstring release on my left side. I do a regular calisthenics workout as well.
thank you for your comment. If is ok with you would you like to contact me through discord there are few things I would like to know to give you an specific opinion and maybe put you in contact with a dojo close to you if we can find one. I have some experience working with CP and o think maybe you and I can come up with some adaptations to make kendo and enhance activity for you. Here is the link to the server. discord.gg/H9WgXYRRVw if not let me know what’s best for you. Thank you again for your comment and support.
Lot little gems 💎 first I noticed my left heel to high, then balance, if my left heel to high I seem to have forward head posture. Second when it’s lower, and you said balance between the feet, but weight still on left foot, then lower my centre of gravity. I think this will really help my kendo, oh and not to forget, straight left leg. I think with knee unlocked right? Thanks 🙏🏻
Shisen (視線) is eye viewing line or range and Shizen-tai(自然体) is the natural body posture. I think you want to say Shizen-tai. oh wait the subtitles says correctly. sorry my bad. maybe sen and zen are same in your language, just like si and shi are the same in japanese. By the way, I love your accent.
Would you say the legs should be straight when in kamae? I find that whenever I fumikomi I drop my hips and then push off so I wonder if I should start with my legs slightly bent or if I should keep them straight?
The right knee slightly bent but the left leg straight (without locking the joint) the idea is that the left leg should be pushing you forward and the right leg will pull you forward as soon as it touches the ground for the fumikomi. There is a slight bend that happens before the left leg leaves the ground to do the fumikiri (I will make a better video soon about it but maybe this video will help th-cam.com/video/2SedLSrtarc/w-d-xo.html) let me know if I can help further you are welcome to pass by my live streams or join the discord server discord.gg/VcY84s8sGS

Thank you!!! Yes never lock any of your joints even though the left leg is straight the joint does not lock

Hahaha sorry I struggle a lot with the Z sounds, you can’t imagine how much fun my friends made in school when ordering pizza!

Just got out of practice. My problem is I might start with good kamae but after my attack I throw my form out the window.
Is it because of fatigue, or tension?
