    Most people in CA never heard about Mammoth Lakes which is a blessing. Nice walk; will be there in 4 days.

    Thanks for sharing that! I haven't been there since I was a kid back in the 60's. We owned a lodge on Lupin street and the year round population was 660 people at that time. I hardly recognize the place! I worked at one point making arrows in Kitteridges Sporting Goods and the school at that time was by Hot Creek Fishing Hatchery. It was a small quaint town at that time but gave me memories I still cherish today.

      @@CityWalks It was, I used to spend hours looking for arrow heads and antique bottles throughout the area. There was a chipping ground for trading above the substation where you could find catch points used in trading. I used to ride my horse on the John Muir trail, and even in junior high school it was safe to hitch hike everywhere! I miss those days.

    Thanks for another great walk! I really appreciated the narration. A couple of addendums: In addition to the Clocktower, the main restaurant at the Alpenhof Lodge is Petra's, and it's one of the best places to eat in Mammoth. Also, the big place you saw above the village where you saw the bike trailers is the Westin Mammoth, probably the town's nicest hotel (and my home away from home =).

      That is certainly a great idea as it has been suggested before. The one thing keeping me from doing that is it takes a significant amount of extra time to Matthews out and since I’m not being paid to do them, I often don’t take that extra time. I will definitely consider in the future though. - H

    Thank you for the walking tour. Some notes... Yes, that was manzanita. All the good cropland is on the other side of the mountain range in the San Joaquin Valley. The City of L.A. bought a lot of land in the Eastern Sierra back in the day including the water rights, sucking the Owens Valley dry for the growing city. That house for sale at $1.1 million sold for $1 million. That $460K median price figure is probably for condos. Single family homes start in the upper six figure range, and have for at least the last 15 years. The city consists of four square miles and is surrounded by forest service and BLM land, so space is at a premium, even though it wouldn't appear so. I love Mammoth. It's my happy place.

    • @CityWalks
      @CityWalks  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for that extra info. Love getting these types of comments. Yeah, I can see how this would be a "happy place". It's a beautiful part of the world. Thanks! -H

      Strangely enough, we'd spent a few days on the west side of the mountains and it was very smokey, but while we were in Mammoth Lakes, it was fairly clear. However, the day after we left, apparently a big fire blew up and it got pretty bad. -H

    You chose a terrible area of "residential areas" to walk around (I live in Mammoth, so I know). Forest Trail is a terrible street to give a person a taste of what it's like in Mammoth to actually reside. You should have gone into the Trails or Mammoth Slopes IV. A trivial point, but valid. ;)

    • @CityWalks
      @CityWalks  หลายเดือนก่อน

      Sorry to hear that but thanks for the feedback. That’s the one of the perils of relying on Serendipity. I suppose I should do more research but that sort of thing is hard to research without going first and as I am usually glomming these onto the side of a family trip, that’s challenging. I’d love to come back and film again and if I do, I’ll try to explore those areas. Thanks again. -H

    Mammoth what? No lakes, no ski lodge, ski lift. Just buildings like any high elevation town.

      @ggould 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Granted that much. But so many of us know the beautiful Mammoth Lakes and ski area, so the title of the video leads us to look for lakes. Taking your side, we are supposed to understand City Walks, not lake walks. You win.
