    Considering these cameras generally sell for $40 to $60 nowadays, I really wouldn't call that video subpar. The firmware hack drastically improves the video quality too (just use the PTOOL program). The stock bitrate is an awful 15 mbps. With the hack, the bitrate is tripled to 45 mbps. These cameras just have a NEWS camera look to it (30 fps), not a FILM camera style (24p). Technically, the camera actually shoots 1080i at 60 fps -- it does shoot 60p at 720 HD resolution, though.

    do u think it's still worth buying it for an amateur photographer?

      It's decent for photography, although the resolution is lacking at 12MP. Just make sure to frame your shots well, because you won't have a chance to recrop. Also, you will only have a usable amount of dynamic range and low noise at ISO 100 - 200, so keep that in mind.
