Johnny Cajon you know what I agree, i was actually kind of waiting for that dramatic "MAAMAAAA OOOOOHHH" part but was kinda underwhelming, but I did like the calmness of this version
Yeah I was just thinking this ia gonna put me to sleep. I have the actually Queen lullaby cd. My son was always wanting to listen to Queen at bed time lol.
I disagree, most of the times at least in the circuits I participate although they are not the main feature marimbas always get talked about in most of the time good ways ( Granted I spend both of my seasons doing mostly marching percussion and WGI soo maybe it’s different in concert settings )
I think the reason they are not very mainstream is the fact that instruments like drums, violins, guitars, pianos etc can be played loud and fast in almost a breath-taking, shocking, makes-you-wanna-suddenly-play-instruments kind of way. While this to some people may sound a little boring. Although I'm not on the edge of my seat, I think this is amazing!!!
In marching and wgi settings they’re not at all, the head of the front ensemble is usually marimba, percussion is underrated in concert setting but marching settings you become highly important
The only thing that bothers me is how high the guy with the green mallets has his hands on the sticks. 😅 But wow, I have chills! Wish my quartet could perform this for fun sometime!
As a fellow percussionist, I just want to say the performance was splendid. Of course, technique can always be improved, but it was wonderful, and I enjoyed watching. Thanks for posting this!
I was literally screaming I my head. Not to be rude but their technique made me want to jump in my phone and scream at at them. Each one of them had different technique. The girl with the green mallets was literally using French grip. Not to mention they were having a down stroke party.
I heard every word, instrument that was played by queen exactly !!!! Even where the individual arrangements were complex to blend together ,..... They still nailed it !!!!!!!
As a band kid I’ll try to explain. There were a few mistakes in the overall song, and you aren’t supposed to use your arm to lift the mallets, it’s all supposed to be in the wrist. Using your arms is considered improper form
mrto0tsboi OMG I know! How does he play like that when plays like that for 6:30 minutes? He’s like playing like that the entire time he’s playing like that that way! ICEBHPLTTW (I Can’t Even Believe He Plays Like That That Way).
No matter how many centuries pass this piece will be phenomenal no matter how or with what instrument is played. R.I.P Freddy Mercury Very well captured by this group of musician. Such a great performance.
You mean 53 critics that judge highly. Although it does have its flaws balance/blend and timing-wise, this was really well done as a musical synced performance! Props to the quartet for achieving such a thing!
Hey percussion teacher, maybe instead of saying bad things in the comments about the students you taught this song to maybe give them pointers after the performance? I play percussion and I would hate to look in the comment section and seeing my own teacher making acronyms about how bad I played. Also this looks like the students are supposed to be playing in front of the crowd and I see moms taking pictures. Maybe you should have played your part on the other marimba that way the girl who also plays on the marimba is full spotlight! This was their performance! You guys did great, I just have concerns about the kids.
Sarah .R, though I do agree, I think he was just joking around like most of my teachers do. Even though I am in orchestra, we do joke around about stuff that we're not as, how we call it, "delightful", on and work on it🤷🏽♀️
I love marimba so much😢 My family is Guatemalan so they encouraged me to try it and i fell in love with any mallets but Marimba will always be my favorite ❤❤❤
Hola.

That legato technique just sticks out because he probably is more experienced, but this is common in marimba playing. It's easier to notice because of the slower tempo. The one with green mallets should be following through to be more lagato as well, which is kind of why it sounds kind of stiff, but it's still all great :)
Instead of enjoying the music I just had to think about there technic because I am in marching band There thumbs were facing up which reduces mobility and sound They sometimes reached over instead of moving to the note They were using there arms a lot which makes it harder to go fast and has a more stiff sound All of there right mallets were higher than left Sorry I said that it was still great but I had to get it off my chest
Ah man I don’t miss marching band at all but I’m glad someone else noticed this. I enjoyed this a lot but with correct technique it could sound a lot better. It would be interesting to see if someone were to incorporate a vibraphone into a performance like this, it might sound interesting.

+Tom McElroy I kinda agree with Noel Gomariz. I feel like what made it feel off was that the rhythms aren't entirely correct. Like some triplets seem entirely ignored while sometimes they seem to be added which feels kind of weird if you know the song already.

Dylan Lancaster percussion is overall underated in concert settings

Somewhat sadder because I imagine Freddie quietly singing this to himself... I feel sad oh poor boy... from a poor family

Hey Hailey, the sheet music for this is finally out for $20 our website. Would love to see your quartet play this. michaelcharlessmith.com/marimbalab
Yea, how is he controlling it
Superb.
Somewhere, Freddie Mercury is smiling.
What made happiest about this was the fact that the gong was finally not forgotten in an arrangement of this song
I enjoyed that, a few wrong notes from the lead but that didn't deter from the overall experience
Andrew Castree not to be rude, but nobody can really perfect the masterpiece that Freddie Mercury created.

Yay the guy playing the main melody (green mallets) hands look to high up on the mallet

Marimba is the Costa Rica's national instrument, and, as a costa rican, I appreciate it a lot. My father builds them. LOVE this cover.
Is Guatemala instrument my friend
Sorry dude! But the marimba come from Africa, before it was the national instrument of Guatemala.
Marimba come From África / Angola
When you can hear the lyrics even thought they aren’t there
I heard every word, instrument that was played by queen exactly !!!!
Even where the individual arrangements were complex to blend together ,.....
They still nailed it !!!!!!!
Just needed a half naked guy
This showed up in my recommended. Very clearly practiced and hard work is apparent. I loved it! Great work players!!
all the band kids in the comments criticising this are confusing me help

Those Nancy Zeltsman mallets sound great. Phenomenal performance and a great choise in mallets!
I love how it takes a team work to play a piece in one instrument. there were very well rehearsed disciplined and coordinated
The iPhone version of bohemian rhapsody
I used to have a marimba in my alarm every morning and now whenever I hear marimbas I get alarm PTSD.
But this is very cool.
This just goes to show the great musicality of Queen and of course Freddie Mercury. Great Music is and will forever be great!
Fantablious !. They had the whole song in there heads. I liked there point where the guy player switched over side with the gal.Very nice !.
Homeboy playing the vocals in the beginning is choked up on his mallets so damn far. idek how he plays like that

Also the girl with her hands all the Way to the bottom of the mallets
Michael Charles Smith lmao insult the kids you teach i dont understand
Sarah .R did you not cath the sarcasm as well as making fun of what op said, not making fun of his own kids lol
No matter how many centuries pass this piece will be phenomenal no matter how or with what instrument is played. R.I.P Freddy Mercury

Lunanies 😂😂 so annoying like if he’s better then the others 😂😂
He looks a lot older than the others, he's probably their teacher. Also probably just a technique to help the notes ring more

Freddy Mercury must be so proud, with all these covers... Damn🔥
They should have played it on the vibes, that way you can get the sustain.

Why is everyone so mad in the comments?

There thumbs were facing up which reduces mobility and sound
They sometimes reached over instead of moving to the note
They were using there arms a lot which makes it harder to go fast and has a more stiff sound
All of there right mallets were higher than left

Thy hewman thanks I never really paid attention to the there, their and they're I have a really low English mark.
Kody Forsyth agreed. I'm not a percussionist, so I don't know the technique. But the guy with red mallets was making me really mad
That's A LOT to memorize. Bravo team!!!

No escape from reality
Open your eyes
Look up to the skies and see
I'm just a poor boy, I need no sympathy
Because I'm easy come, easy go
A little high, little low
Anyway the wind blows, doesn't really matter to me, to me
Mama, just killed a man
Put a gun against his head
Pulled my trigger, now he's dead
Mama, life had just begun
But now I've gone and thrown it all away
Mama, ooo
Didn't mean to make you cry
If I'm not back again this time tomorrow
Carry on, carry on, as if nothing really matters
Too late, my time has come
Sends shivers down my spine
Body's aching all the time
Goodbye everybody I've got to go
Gotta leave you all behind and face the truth
Mama, ooo (anyway the wind blows)
I don't want to die
I sometimes wish I'd never been born at all
I see a little silhouetto of a man
Scaramouch, scaramouch will you do the fandango
Thunderbolt and lightning very very frightening me
Gallileo, Gallileo,
Gallileo, Gallileo,
Gallileo Figaro - magnifico
But I'm just a poor boy and nobody loves me
He's just a poor boy from a poor family
Spare him his life from this monstrosity
Easy come easy go will you let me go
Bismillah! No we will not let you go - let him go
Bismillah! We will not let you go - let him go
Bismillah! We will not let you go let me go
Will not let you go let me go (never)
Never let you go let me go
Never let me go ooo
No, no, no, no, no, no, no
Oh mama mia, mama mia, mama mia let me go
Beelzebub has a devil put aside for me
For me
For me
So you think you can stone me and spit in my eye
So you think you can love me and leave me to die
Oh baby, can't do this to me baby
Just gotta get out just gotta get right outta here
Ooh yeah, ooh yeah

Nothing really matters nothing really matters to me
