I'm not a good judge. I have a peasant palate and am a bit of a picky eater. My favorite dish has not changed since childhood; spaghetti w/ mushroom marinara sauce. I always say that even bad spaghetti is good spaghetti.
Yours is among my favourite TH-cam travel channels. There are a lot of people producing excellent content and each has its own flavour. To me what shines in your work is who each of you are, who you are together, and how you share your experiences in such a relatable way. I know it sounds so American to say it, but in a way I think of you as virtual friends. You both embody the things I like about Germans and Americans. Anyway, each new piece from you always makes my day.
Pieperfestival (patatofestival) is loads of fun. It's somewhere begin september here in Emmeloord. Saturdays you can get free fries. There is the fish patato run, a whole week full of patato fun. Especially for Phil😂
Don’t feel shy about where you are in learning German. You’ve done amazingly! I’ve been married for over 10 years and still don’t speak Mandarin. My MIL and FIL still speak to me strictly in Mandarin after all these years and I still have the same blank look on my face! Haha!
Deanna learning German doing well. I am learning Mandarin in Taiwan for 8 months. I have made significant progress with my listening, reading, and spoken since starting this past summer seriously. I am glad you are doing well.
Congratulations on Deanna for learning German so well that she is able to converse with native speakers. I should know that that's not an easy task. Also pleased to hear that she likes Hungarian lángos. I think I have already commented on this once or twice, but in my opinion, lángos varieties available at German Christmas markets are usually adapted to German palates. Genuine Hungarian lángos does not have either Nutella or a mountain of toppings. Come to Hungary (not the Budapest Christmas market, because that one also offers touristy fare) to have the real deal, such as the classic topped with garlic, sour cream and cheese, or the locally available varieties such as lángos filled calzone style with ewe's cheese and dill.
You can get a cat even if you’re allergic Diana. People that are allergic to animals only are allergic to the salvia of some cats or dogs etc. My mother also is highly allergic to cats which was why as a child, we could never adopt a pet. We later learned that you aren’t allergic to all cats, which is how we adopted two cats from the local shelter in the last 10 years. We of course asked for some fur of the cats that we wanted to adopt and my mom tested if she had any allergic reactions beforehand. So if you like cats it’s not impossible to adopt one. 😄
Wow, thanks for answering my question from IG! It’s interesting you answer my question with African and Pakistani cuisine. I’ve lived in both Pakistan and West Africa (and was born in Thailand!) and, yes, there are many great dishes that aren’t necessarily well-known in these regions that I think you’d love to try. Looking forward to seeing your travels!
Really interesting watching you two answering these questions. You’ve been so authentic and open. Thank you for going to so much effort with the answers. Great video👍🏻 Frohe Weinachten!
I too always wondered Deana's ethnicity. My husband guessed half of it. Thanks for the videos and the Q & A video. Have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
We loved learning mroe about you both through this Q&A, especially as we're Americans living in Germany! We're living in Hannover, so it was wonderful to hear how much you liked the Hannover Christmas Market! We also thought it was fantastic but wondered if we were biased. Can't wait to see all your new videos soon!
Merry Christmas Deana and Phil from the USA! (Georgia to be more specific). I love any content that you post- yes even the travel videos! I guess I’m one of your odd ball fans!
I’m allergic to cats too 😅 As for dogs I would recommend, cavalier King Charles spaniels and a Labrador as they are easy to train and for their size would probably do well on planes. They’re also some of the friendliest breeds you could probably get. And good luck with the farm idea, Deana! Sounds very fun ❤
Thanx for updating us regarding what’s happening next, safe travels and I have to say, Phil, your grasp on English is excellent, maybe better than some folks born in english speaking countries! Come to oz one day 🤞✌️
I enjoyed the travel videos as much as any of the others. i love all of the food videos and hope to see more of that along the lines of perhaps seeing you learn how to make soe of the local food from people there in those far off places.
Regarding the cheese. As a dutch person I consider it a win when someone who is half french recommends dutch cheese 😁 I do like french cheeses too though 😅 I'd never guessed Deana is half french half chinese though. She's quite unique 😁
Dutch cheese is the best! My favorite is kameinakaas. I'm not sure of the spelling. It's very expensive here, in the States. I bought 4 ounces for $9. It's a huge treat for only once in a while.
How interesting about the French/Chinese ethnic background. Ages ago I had asked if you were part Japanese because you talked about eating sushi growing up in South Carolina, which as a Southerner (from GA/AL) of a similar age this was a bit unusual to my experience at least, so I thought you might have been part Asian because I felt like sushi in particular only became widely available after I was 20.
Hi Guys Deana must be the most awesome American ever . Love your content as a German Canadian . I wish you would have spent more time in the Black Forest as I am from Schwenningen
Love Q&A's from you, really helps us to get to know you better. I hope you have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! Hope you have safe travels too.🎄🎉❤️👍
I really enjoy your videos, have visited Germany, Austria, etc in the past, would love to travel again, but the olde body says no! So now I get my travel & food fix by watching you, Merry Christmas & Happy New Year from Florida!
Merry Christmas to you both and a wonderful 2024. I really enjoyed this years video's a lot. My manfriend and I are living on 2 different continents and we are seriously contemplating living together, either here in the Netherlands or (for me part of the year, becauseof my job) in Spain. I already fell in love with Spain, and he fell in love this year. Hopefully we can make it work in the next 2 years
I also recommend you to try Slovakian bryndzové halusky (sp?), which is also available in Northern Hungary. It's kind of similar to Käsespätzle, but this pasta is made with grated raw potatoes, cooked in water, then topped with fried bacon bits or lardons and ewe's cheese (bryndza). So moreish.
@@erzsebetkovacs2527 I know, but still if someone wants to find it in Hungary he has to know it, cause nowhere will it be offered as halusky brindzové.
Good vid. I always thought Deanna looked Native American. I'm surprised that Phil can't get residency easily, in America since he's married to an American. Most government stuff like that can be done on the internet now w/ only a short meeting in person. I enjoy all of your vids but I like the food tasting and little activities like bike riding and watching animals. I like the vicarious being there feeling.
It's me! I'm the one who wants to watch you go to all of these cultural places and events and thigns I may never get to see in person myself! Sending love from an American who's had a lifelong dream of visiting Europe. (finally happening in June 2024!)
Merry Christmas to Deana and Phil and family. Thank you for answering the Questions and sharing. I have enjoyed your videos and look forward to many more.
I´m soo exited for your videos about travelling towards the mediterranean, india and asia! Totally hyped!!! All the best to you, happy christmas, new year´s eve and all the best for you and your beloved ones!❤
Frohe Weihnachten Deana und Phil!!! On the topic of meeting up with your viewers, it would've been fun to have met up with you guys at Haus Des Döners when my sons and I were in Düsseldorf in June. Since you're a big fan of that place, it would've been interesting to see which version is your favorite. We were hoping to see you guys when we were touring the city. As always, I really enjoy your videos!!!
If you film yourselves walking down a dirt path in any place Thailand I AM THERE. I can’t get enough Thailand content. It’s my ultimate dream number #1 destination of LIFE!! But I’m only 1 human so I understand. But THAILAND ❤️ you guys are fantastic!!! Have been binge watching for 3 weeks and absolutely love your videos!!! Merry Christmas 🎄🎁

I've been planning some European travel in '24 and have found your videos helpful in understanding some of the street cuisine I'm likely to find. Your videos have given me a much better sense of things since I last lived in Germany several decades ago. Deana! you totally trashed the US cheese scene! Next time you visit the USA you have got to get to Vermont and upstate NY and try some of the incredible cheese being made in those areas. You'll probably get some abuse for your comments but really, it's just ignorance.
I would love to do a cruise of the Mediterranean and can't wait to see what yours is like but I've got a question: how were the waters? I have really bad motion sickness so any ocean cruises are out for me. I've heard River cruises are much better but the lure of ease is travel for Mediterranean is huge. So many countries and you just pack and unpack once
