I think this is a pretty good arc. STAS has a bunch of multi-parters, and I think they're all good. I'd probably place this one near the top. It's kind of a big deal, partly thanks to its length, which BTW makes it better as a three-parter than a movie. One of my favorite moments is how it lampshades Lois being the damsel early on. Also, wow, definitely a pre-9/11 moment with the Joker shooting up the city. I'd imagine the climax took place at night so those buildings were hypothetically empty.
Hey Walter, that was an amazing review of The Crossover between Superman and Batman, and I really look forward to the next episode of fanscription. I also think it would be great to see fan descriptions of anime since no one has done that at all in youtube.
This was and will always be the best Batman & Superman team up to me. Batman v Superman: *Dumb of Justice* ain't got nothing on Conroy and Daly. Bruce: "It's ironic, isn't it? Lois likes Bruce Wayne and Superman. *It's the other two guys she's not crazy about.* " Superman: "Too bad we can't mix and match."
This was the first time I ever saw Batman and Superman on screen together, it was pure joy as a kid, and still really cool seeing their dynamic now. I'll really miss BatMay. Thank you, Walter for this journey through such an amazing series.
The way both Batman and Superman out each other's identities was great. *Superman x-rays Batman's cowl* Superman: "Bruce Wayne??" Batman: "You peeked!" *later* *Superman sees Batman tracked him to his apartment with a GPS tracker, catching him dressed as Clark Kent* Superman: "... Touche."
you know, I kinda like Joker's NOTICEABLE change in tone and demeanor on the "There's nothing MERE about that Mortal" line. Batman's stated goal is to inspire superstition and fear in to his rogue's gallery and for that one moment you can tell HE DOES.
Harley Quinn: (With Batman cookie) "C'mon, Mr. J! I'm Batman! Eat me! Eat me! Eat me!" Joker: "... I know you're trying to cheer me up, Harley, but you see, every time I blow a million dollar deal- *IT REALLY KILLS MY APPETITE!!* "
Fun fact, Clancy Brown originally read for the role of Superman. When the producers called back and instead offered him the role of Lex Luthor, he complained about being typecasted.
He's just too good at sounding bad, and he uses a pretty similar voice in most of his roles. He plays Rapunzel's father in Tangled: The Series, and he still sounds just like Lex Luthor.
Alfred's comment about owners of the Kryptonite Dragon statue dying an early death was foreshadowing to Justice League where Lex Luthor finds out he has cancer from holding Kryptonite unprotected.
I can't believe he didn't mention how Joker changed the look in the plane so he can put a 'smile' to the moon, that was a nice wink to the Tim Burton's movie
Beginning Superman: Bruce Wayne? Batman: You peeked. Ending Bruce: Coming to make sure I'm leaving? Clark: Actually, I thought we worked pretty well together. Not that I'd want to make it a regular event. Bruce: She's all yours now. If you can handle that, but you'd better take good care of her. 'Cause I know where you live
Its interactions like these that show that Batman does have a sense of humor. And I wish modern interpretations of this character would remember that and not just make himn Broody McBroodyson who broods all the time.
@@wjzav1971 Also need to talk about how this friendship so flawlessly continued into Justice League and Justice League Unlimited and they are actually believable as friends who deeply admire and trust each other. Mine was watching Mercy and Harley beat the crap out of each other. The animation is so great, you could _feel_ the impact of their blows and it's a great display of their opposite personalities and fighting tactics. Harley is _excitable, fun-loving_ and a _bit impulsive_ and tends to use _cartoonish weaponry_ as well as fisticuffs during battle. Mercy by contrast is _stoic, business-oriented and calculated_ and prefers using solely hand-to-hand combat. Joker would have probably only gotten some guest roles.
Probably, but honestly the Bat Embargo didn’t really affect anything. Timm even pointed out that even had they had access to Bat-characters, they probably wouldn’t have used them substantially anyway. A better and more satisfying Batman/Superman movie, than the live-action one we would eventually get. A little under 70 minutes in total, and they were able to tell a satisfying story that believably put both Batman and Superman at odds with each other, and satisfyingly brought them together as a crime-fighting duo. Such a great crossover that served as a launching point not only just for future crossovers, but also the pair’s eventual co-founding of the Justice League and their ever evolving friendship. Classic.
What I love about this movie is, its the ultimate comic-to-cartoon movie. It doesn't get any more comic if that makes sense. Camp, action, Superman, Batman, wacky villains, bright and colorful.
My grandma got me this on dvd for my birthday when I was little and it ended up being the first thing I ever saw Kevin Conroy Batman in and it helped get me into Superman as well! In my opinion this is what Batman V Superman should have looked like.
As Linkara put it: "Superman's archenemy is Lex Luthor. A wealthy genius who uses his power and resources to do evil. But Superman's best friend is Batman. A wealthy genius who uses his power and resources to do good."
He addressed this at the end of last year's Bat-May. This was a passion project for him. The fact that we got reviews of the movies this year should be considered a wonderful bonus.
I remember watching this for the first time as a miniseries. A three-part episode crossover between Batman and Superman. Needless to say, it was always a favorite. Two of the best heroes from two of the best versions of their shows together. And it did a great job of making both feel competent and necessary to the plot. Plus gave us some great moments of characters meeting. You shouted out several, but there's something I love about Batman interrogating Luthor in his own bed. I fully understand people saying this is a better BvS than the actual BvS. I mean BvS had no idea what to do with Lois and this miniseries treated her right. Sure, maybe she didn't try to find a spear to kill the Joker, but she did save Batman! And even gave him some of her trademark sass. If you enjoy BtAS or StAS, you have to watch these episodes. You owe it to yourself.
What an amazing show and amazing review series! What's in store for future? The Bat-may (2004)? Batman Be-June-d? Justice June? DCAUgust (full-length animated movies)? Or maybe even all at once with DCmber?
Guys, he mentioned this at the end of last Bat-May. This was a passion project for him that was very time consuming. I can't see him doing another one of these for a series he doesn't love quite as much. Just be glad for the work he put in these past five years! ^^
We're very glad for sure, but when smth is ending void must be filled. And since it was received very well, I think there's high chance that we may get more Walter-views either here or on his channel
Walter, thank you so much for the effort you put into Bat May! It will be missed, but what a fun ride it was 🙂 Looking forward to whatever you’ve got lined up next! 🦇 ♾ ~_~
This is a great Joker "death" scene just for the joke. HARLEY: "PUDDIN!" BATMAN: "At this point, he probably is." Kevin Conroy's deadpan delivery just makes it perfect.
I was not expecting the return of Bat May this year after the completion of the series last year, but this was a fitting end to the project. Thanks for all the hard work to make this happen, Walter. It's been a blast.
There is something strangely nostalgic about this period in time when a handful of popular cartoon shows were releasing three part specials as a direct-to-video movie. I had the Carmen Sandiego "movie" and a few of the old Scooby-Doo specials back in the day.
This film is my preferred team up of Batman and Superman. Yes, it's not a masterpiece, but it's still a good 3 part story that I hold dear to my Batman loving heart.
I would have loved for you to have wrapped by Bat-May by covering Batman and Harley Quinn. Not only did it feature the return of Dick Grayson after all of these years of non-existance in the DCAU, but they even brought Loren Lester back to voice him! They also used the TNBA designs so it could have easily slid into the DCAU. Plus it's a more recent movie which was both more mature and funny at the same time.
Walter. you KNOW what i think . I've been yearning for a review of this since... i know not how long ago. i still prefer this storyline than what i got for BvS. if WORLD'S FINEST *was* treated as a film like Return of the Joker, people would consider WF THE best Batman vs Superman representation thus far. thank you, walter. #AwesomeWalterIsAwesome
It's tv trappings are obvious, but as a crossover (back when that was rare), I loved it. Especially Harley vs Mercy Anyway, you have done such a great job with these over the years. Just wanted to say thank you. Next year how about some X-Men? X-May? What'd ya say? 😊
In my country (Bulgaria) they hadn't aired anything DCAU-related since airing BTAS in the 90's so I was super happy when they started airing STAS in December 2006 and finally they got to this crossover in 2007. Of course, I had seen BTAS and STAS on CN and RTL II, and also had downloaded the episodes, but it was cool to finally seed it airing officially with a Bulgarian voiceover.
0:57 this scene also established extended exposure to Kryptonite is deadly for humans. They mentioned all the dragons owners died early and mysteriously, until Batman confirmed it was radioactive.
Heh i just take the glow and beep for the audience. It didn't bother me. What The Batman did bothered me. If it was that easy to figure it out, everyone would. And a Superman that couldn't think to hide or obfuscate isn't a good one.
Bugging Superman isn't new. His phone had been bugged in "The Late Mr. Kent" by a mere cop, and Clark never found out. He missed a bomb in his car and apartment - the latter was discovered by Lois. Just because he has that super-hearing doesn't mean he always listens. And when he does, it's mostly for alarms and sirens.
Lex Luthor: You Imbecile! You Idiot, how dare you to use one of my laboratories to do your... Joker: Harley...? Harley Quinn: Hands off, baldy! Lex: Marcey! *Marcey and Harley Quinn Cat-Fight off-screen*
First of the DCAU crossover cartoons of Superman and Batman. One of the best things ever to happen! For other villains working together, a love triangle awakard type, and such, and the best voice actors on this one. Can't wait to see more next year. 😊
Didn't they cross over in the Justice League animated serie ? That was not as great but still very good, I think the same team was in charge of the show at the time (or at least it felt very close). There's probably a few other good animated movies where they crossed path as well, until a few years ago when the DC animated universe started to spiral down to sh*t ...
Definitely works better as a trilogy of episodes than a movie, designed to be padded out into 3 viewings. The seed of things to come in Justice League. In that sense among many others it fulfilled its purpose better than BvS, as well as opening the gate to a few more crossover episodes later in STAS' run.
Man I remember being a kid watching this on TV with my dad and I was blown away at how awesome it was. Then it came out on DVD which I didn’t know about until I was at Costco with my dad and he was like oh look and pointed to the DVD stand of it. He told me to go grab one. Watched it non-stop after.
I used to go to Blockbuster with my dad every Friday and I always rented this film. It’s been years since I’ve last seen it, but it’s because of this movie that made me a DC fan
I saw this on TV first and then later as a 'movie' where I was fooled into thinking it was something new for a moment. I love it every time. And it makes me want to see Knight Time as a follow-up.
I really do appreciate this movie and how great it is seeing Batman and Superman team up together in the the DCAU and show why the two are such a great duo and start their friendship. I also love the team up between Lex and Joker since the both of them are just as entertaining together as Superman and Batman together. The only thing Id say that I don't really love is how this film tries a bit too hard in making Bruce and Lois a couple when we all know Clark and Lois end up better together so, not to mention it kind of makes Bruce a bit of jerk since he's literally stealing Clark's girl in front of him for no real reason. Granted Clark should've made his move sooner and not let his insecurities get in the way but than again it's still kinda a dick move from Bruce. Shame that Bat-May is coming to an end, but may I suggest another idea... what if you guys were to do the same thing you did for Batman: The Animated Series and do it for Superman: The Animated Series, reviewing every episode of the show and even some of the tie in movies all in September? You guys could even call it: *"SUPER-TEMBER"* Or better yet you guys could continue Bat-May by reviewing other underrated Batman shows like The Batman (2004) or Batman: Brave and The Bold, both highly underrated and underappreciated Batman shows in my opinion.
I'll be honest I loved this as a kid; the reason being of course because of these two heroes meeting and interacting for the first time. But now as an adult the one thing that annoys me about it is the love triangle plot line. I'm sorry Walter, I couldn't disagree more about that. It's just cringe in spite of the vocal performances. The whole thing seems so forced with Lois lusting at first sight; it really comes off as the writers trying to uplift Bruce/Batman and downplay Clark/Superman. Other than Bruce being a handsome bachelor; what exactly attracts Lois to him when just seconds before she was trashing him due to his known reputation of being a playboy. Maybe if it was written with Bruce chasing after her and her not wanting to engage because she has the wrong perception of him it would have made more sense narratively but then the pacing probably would have suffered and one factor of the rivalry would be eliminated. I just feel like at least for these episodes they tried to make the audience buy into a romance that was superficial and not well built. I mean come on Lois you've only been out a few times and you want a transfer, yeah right.
What are your thoughts on World's Finest? Does this work as a movie?

What I love about this movie is, its the ultimate comic-to-cartoon movie. It doesn't get any more comic if that makes sense. Camp, action, Superman, Batman, wacky villains, bright and colorful.
My grandma got me this on dvd for my birthday when I was little and it ended up being the first thing I ever saw Kevin Conroy Batman in and it helped get me into Superman as well! In my opinion this is what Batman V Superman should have looked like.
"There's nothing mere about that mortal!" - Joker
Thanks for all the awesome Bat-May videos Walter. It's been a great ride over the past 5 years.
As Linkara put it: "Superman's archenemy is Lex Luthor. A wealthy genius who uses his power and resources to do evil. But Superman's best friend is Batman. A wealthy genius who uses his power and resources to do good."
Here’s to hoping for Bat-May Beyond. Loved this whole ride Walter!
Thank you for all these reviews and stories. They were awesome
So we've reached the end of Bat-May. It's been a good five years that gave me and others a chance to relive our childhoods.
Walter, have you ever considered doing a Super-May next, covering the episodes of Superman TAS?
No mention of Batman's most brutal line: "Puddin?!" "At this point, he probably is"?
What an amazing show and amazing review series!
What's in store for future?
The Bat-may (2004)?
Batman Be-June-d?
Justice June?
DCAUgust (full-length animated movies)?
Or maybe even all at once with DCmber?
Maybe supermay for Superman the animated series it would work since the last bat-may was talking about Superman the animated series
We're finally here, thanks for all the work over the past few years.
The Dark Knight lives!!
Walter, thank you so much for the effort you put into Bat May!
It will be missed, but what a fun ride it was 🙂
Looking forward to whatever you’ve got lined up next!
🦇 ♾

Sad to see Bat-May go but glad it happened
That "touché" is my favorite line
Bat-May Beyond? Lol
Perhaps Super-May?
This last episode would make a decent segue into that show.
This is a great Joker "death" scene just for the joke.
HARLEY: "PUDDIN!"
BATMAN: "At this point, he probably is."
Kevin Conroy's deadpan delivery just makes it perfect.
This is what BVS should have been. It would have so much better if based on this.
Next year better be Batman Beyond for Bat-May
I would have loved for you to have wrapped by Bat-May by covering Batman and Harley Quinn.
I'm gonna miss Bat-May. I'm looking forward to the last Twilight-Tober, especially since it's on my birth month.
I still think these 3 cartoon episodes are twice the movie Batman V Superman was
Walter. you KNOW what i think .
The decision of directing Conroy to stop using the two separate voices for Bruce and Batman still baffles me. Such a shame.
Well, see you in October, everyone.
Waiting for the Twilight Tober Zone.
Thanks for the Bat-May..
I remember owning this on VHS as a kid
also saw the episodes on kids wb at my grandma's house
🐸 Kids' Dubba Dubba WB.
It's tv trappings are obvious, but as a crossover (back when that was rare), I loved it. Especially Harley vs Mercy
Anyway, you have done such a great job with these over the years. Just wanted to say thank you.
Next year how about some X-Men? X-May? What'd ya say? 😊
“Mechanical monsters…”
I see what you did there. 😉
I can’t believe BatMay is over. It’s been a hell of a ride! Thanks, Walter! ❤❤❤
Is it wrong to like so many comments on one video?
So, this is the series finale? No more Bat-May?
In my country (Bulgaria) they hadn't aired anything DCAU-related since airing BTAS in the 90's so I was super happy when they started airing STAS in December 2006 and finally they got to this crossover in 2007. Of course, I had seen BTAS and STAS on CN and RTL II, and also had downloaded the episodes, but it was cool to finally seed it airing officially with a Bulgarian voiceover.
All we need is a Super-May
So, any chances for a BatMay Beyond next year? SuperMay? June-stice League Unlimited perhaps?
This was what I wish "Dawn of Justice" had been.
0:57 this scene also established extended exposure to Kryptonite is deadly for humans. They mentioned all the dragons owners died early and mysteriously, until Batman confirmed it was radioactive.
The best duo to ever voice the Dark Knight & the Man of Steel (Kevin Conroy & Tim Daly) and became icon for the DCAU.
I saw these several weeks ago. They were good. I enjoyed it. Thanks for another great BatMay
That tracking device on the cape always bothered me, there is no way Superman couldn't hear that.
Going out on such a high note.
YOU WON'T THIS IS THE LAST BAT MAY
This and Green Lantern: First Flight are what the Live Action Movies should've been, Good.
If only the live action movie could have been this good. Honestly if they had just copied the plot I wouldn’t have been upset.
I still remember seeing this for the first it was a dream come true holds up really well to me this was what started Justice League!
The only good Batman and Superman crossover ;)
Justice League was great though 😢
Injustice
Superfriends
Didn't they cross over in the Justice League animated serie ? That was not as great but still very good, I think the same team was in charge of the show at the time (or at least it felt very close).
There's probably a few other good animated movies where they crossed path as well, until a few years ago when the DC animated universe started to spiral down to sh*t ...
Public Enemies was pretty good too.
Definitely works better as a trilogy of episodes than a movie, designed to be padded out into 3 viewings. The seed of things to come in Justice League. In that sense among many others it fulfilled its purpose better than BvS, as well as opening the gate to a few more crossover episodes later in STAS' run.
Bruce being Mr steal your girl.😂
Hope you come back next May and cover some of the Batman focused episodes of Justice League and Justice League Unlimited.
You guys could even call it: *"SUPER-TEMBER"*
Or better yet you guys could continue Bat-May by reviewing other underrated Batman shows like The Batman (2004) or Batman: Brave and The Bold, both highly underrated and underappreciated Batman shows in my opinion.
Now this is how to close out Bat-May.
This what Batman V Superman should have been
The Batmay-pilogue
"Puddin'!" "At this point, he probably is."
This was my introduction to both Batman TAS & Superman TAS in the late 90’s / early 2000’s, it was a fun introduction to the Animated DC world
I'll be honest I loved this as a kid; the reason being of course because of these two heroes meeting and interacting for the first time.
Thank you for the video.
next year better be batman beyond damn it
Let us not forget this gem of a line
Where's the joker?
Who knows? Making haha with Harley Quinn
