Hey, Jason your right! you got to love "Flatbed". got to have the fever. I spent 3 years with Melton, back in the 90s. I'm retired now. I've seen 60 year old drivers do flatbed. Melton is a great company to work for. loved every minute. Keep your head up Jason...remember the back row of the truck stop is for Flatbeders! We don't mind the walk.
I love those self talks about “why the F am I doing this when I can have a more cushion job”. When your uncomfortable in that situation, that’s how you know that’s where you belong. Keeps you on your toes. We all know how life is and when life gets you uncomfortable, it ain’t nothing more than “F that wind, this load is getting trapped” and that’s how you attack life. Stay hard amigo. That mentality earned a sub from this guy.
I say the same thing; If you just got your CDL I recommend you drive a trailer box truck first , just to gain experience driving a truck . Give it a year then you can do flatbed .
Hope this finds you well. That’s for the video been following you for a while. Just wanted to say I finished my CDL training and ship out the 22nd for orientation at Melton.
That’s awesome! Congratulations and welcome to the family! Melton is a great company. Thank you for your support as well. Hope to see you out here on the road.
I’m going with melton I just got done signing up with Roadmaster and that’s the company I’m going with once I’m done with the trucking school. Thanks for the good advice
I did it for seven. Would only go back if you got a handful of shipper blackouts or able to refuse earned a year. It was returning to a shipper you had a negative experience with that was defeating. Wheter it eats tarps, eats time, loads over 46,000…. Pits your paycheck for the week at risk with a snafu, short haul, odd hour shipper, etc. I felt like I would get about 6-8 a year out of over 120 loads per. Year. That being said i noticed they have a method. If you have a shorter run it may be so your weekend load is the redemption for the paycheck you want. They got me by allowing dogs. That dog got them 750k miles. She saved me from having the worst days out hit as hard., and kept me chugging along. Loved working there. No regrets, it was just time to get home.
I’m currently in Oklahoma for orientation and I see what you are talking about as for me I like the work out but I look at others and ask my self what are they doing here, some are quitting after the first week, I mean what did you think you came here to do cotton candy? But I love Melton already and I watch a lot of your videos.
Finishint up my CDL school beginning of june and i applied at melton. Im used to strapping and securing stuff down so it shouldn't be too hard, but im worried since im gonna be a rookie driver
I almost got into flatbed but as a couple which is totally tolerable. I duno bout solo. Life is about passion. I have a lot of love for physically straining work but hard core weather is a bitch! Maybe he’ll figure life out n come get me one day haha. Why do guys take so long to grow up huh. I was extremely excited to train hard with him😞
Flatbed….. now imagine car hauling 😂😂😭 loading 9 cars in the same condition you mentioned as a flatbed driver. Takes around a hour and some change to load up and secure cars
it litteraly takes 45 seconds to pull over, mark on duty safety checc, jump out and shake ur straps or chains n make sure they are tight. like u said no excuse.
Jason it is sept 2022 i work with TSH. I ENJOY the work. But as a lease owner rates and deadheading is getting ruff. What are you thoughts for the rest of the year?
I agree with you. I just ran some numbers and I need to average $2 a mile just to break even. My thoughts are this, save your money when you’re up so you can protect yourself when you’re down. The rates and fuel prices WILL get back to normal where we can all be profitable. Stay safe out there!

But I’ve got no experience
Yet!

Throw a couple 1 inch straps after Tarping. Not even a tornado can rip off that tarp. Works Everytime. Plus you use less bungees

Question I’m going to school for my cdl is it worth getting shipped out to melton (Texas) I’m from the east coast
Do they help with LP or do you need it before school can you please let me know thanks Anthony
No. Melton only provides tuition reimbursement
They have sponsorships you can apply for but you have to live in Texas or Oklahoma. You'll need to work for them for 12 months if you go that route
Oh Yeah!!!
Lmao. Didn’t you say that in my last video? Oh yeah!!
Yes I love trucking!

Dont chase Miles in flatbed. If you do you are not bright.
I don’t. I chase revenue.
If a flatbedder gets paid by the mile, then they are chasing miles. If you work for a percentage you chase revenue. Melton is a mile chasing company.
