Hey Scotty, should I start the car with the second gear or reverse? Or will it damage anything? There’s a slight downhill and I use it sometimes to start it up.
I’m abroad and bought a 98 manual gasoline seat. I can barely see anything outside or inside the car for the first few miles.
Apart from that it’s got 210.000km 130k miles with a 1.4 naturally aspirated and a 5 speed standard.
It’s running really well apart from that. Impressive actually. Kinda changed my mind on these Volkswagen engines

I heard a better excuse. We've actually been trying to get the speed limit lowered in a heavily-trafficked visitor area where the limit is currently 55mph. When asked why the DOT wouldn't lower the limit, even seasonally, they said "people will drive the speed they believe the road can support". SO WHY HAVE SPEED LIMITS AT ALL!!! Next time I get pulled over I'll be sure to say "but officer, the DOT says I can drive the speed limit I feel the road can support!"

If you drive a new Nissan, it goes bad in 2 years.
Get a interstate battery and have the metal bracket coated.
The bracket is killing the battery
The reason I say interstate battery is because the store will help you with the battery.
    Clean the connection .
Check Fuild level of the battery
They go way beyond to get your battery to work because they believe in thier battery is the best.
Just saying, other places will just make you buy another one without tying to help u, even if its under warranty

Lead/acid car batteries have 3 stages of charging. Bulk, Absorption, and float. Unless your engine is running for hours on end, many batteries will never get the "absorption" stage, and really never see the "float" stage! The absorption stage is a long duration low amp charge that will equalize the cells and keep sulfation down. If a battery is run flat frequently, it may never see it's first birthday! I understand it's impractical to plug your car into a special battery maintainer if it's your everyday driver. Good idea if car is not driven for weeks on end. BTW, driving fast has nothing to do with the health of any part of the electrical system! Never-the-less, the presentation here was spot on! Great graphics and dialog.

Back in my working days, the shop I was in had a constant current battery charger. It was a vintage machine from the old days when all batteries were chronically under charged because of generators. We would put the battery on this charger when it became overly sulphated in the plates. Turn it on and dial it up the variable voltage dial to a hefty voltage. Usually around 75 to 125 volts depending on what the battery could take. As long as you stayed below a electrolyte temp of 100 degrees and left it for a little while until the temperature started to rise again. We would turn down the voltage. As you had to frequently check the battery throughout the day. It gradually would dissolve the sulphation off the plates back into solution. It worked really well. But you had babysit the battery often. Because of the constant attention which no one seems to do now a days they fell into history.

I used to have an old five speed manual explorer. A door wasn't fully closed overnight, and with no fancy safety timers on a '91, naturally the thing was totally dead come morning. I was on land with a huge hill, and decided to get it rolling and pop the clutch. I'd had to do this before, except this time, nothing. No start, no power. But I DID have power steering and brakes because the engine was turning and generating vacuum. What 19 YO me did not realize at the time was that an alternator needs electricity to make electricity. It has electromagnets, not permanent magnets, which is how it regulates voltage. So without any kinds of relays or anything that would eventually cut out the lights, the battery was probably effectively 0V, turning the alternator into yet another useless piece of metal.

I was doing a 100 mile drive home, late at night. Midway I noticed that the battery indicator was below its normal level. I turned off A/C, fans, radio... The needle gradually crept lower. Fun fact: The lower the voltage gets the faster it drops. Half a mile from home the engine started running pretty rough. I turned off the headlights to milk it, and just made it home and into the driveway. I put it on the charger and replaced the alternator the next day.

I adjusted the tie rod by turning the steering wheel lock-to-lock in a summer day with AC running, and the alternator lost a winding; possibly 2/3 of the power output left. I have to shut down one of two radiator fans to avoid overloading the alternator and losing electronic power steering. I have to turn off the ac every time I was waiting at the red light to avoid overheating. I drove the car this way for 1 year and replace the alternator for good.

My 2002 Mercury Sable had the worse electrical system I've ever seen. In hot weather (80-95 degrees Fahrenheit), the heater would turn itself on and I couldn't turn it off with the "off" button, because it would not follow orders. The A/C worked, but it came and went as it pleased. Sometimes the A/C would be on, then it would all of a sudden switch to heat. I'd always get an ominous feeling when that happened. I'd step out of my car with my clothes drenched in an embarrassing amount of sweat, because I had no control of the temperature. Also, sometimes the windows and dome lights refused to work.

I had a 2008 Chevrolet cobalt, in reality, the looks on the car seem desirable, but I was dead wrong. The car had so many problems. The front suspension was awful. The right front wheel kept loosing air and when I would lower the windows, they'd stop working! I kept changing the fuse for that particular problem but the fuse kept burning out! Thats my nightmare of a car. Didn't last a week with me. Love your Channel scotty!

My lesson here: do not replace the OEM infotainment system with one of which you are unfamiliar. I did that in my ‘08 Pilot and I was wondering why car couldn’t start on occasion. Turns out the new head unit was using power even when the car was off, so I switched back to the old one. Problem solved instantly

My last car was an 05 Jeep Grand Cherokee 3.7L 2wd, bought with 148k miles on it. The Jeep ran fine, save for a slow oil leak in the rear main seal, until I have the local dealership perform a recall service on the ignition switch on the steering column after about 6 months of ownership. Within 3 months of replacing the switch, the starter would go out intermittently to the point where if you hit the started with a wrench or screwdriver, it would start up. 2 months of this made me get a new starter, which just so happened to replace the original factory starter. In the next 3 years I had to change the starter switch which was recalled 3 times, the battery 2 times, the starter 3 times, and the starter relay once. I figured that this was common in "older" Grand Cherokees and just kept an eye on the system with a battery tester and voltage meter to catch things before they happened. Eventually, the main seal leak was almost 1 quart of oil every 700 miles, the starter and relay replacement was worth more than the car, and the exhaust system had developed leaks to where the Jeep sounded like a decepticon. At 195k, I finally gave up and purchased a 2016 Toyota Avalon that was serviced at reputable shops and dealerships from initial delivery. I loved that Jeep, but that Jeep did not love me. Farewell, Jerry Jeep; may you finally find your spark!

I'm having an issue with a *dead battery* and I found out 2 days ago...huh. Well, I'm pretty sure it's the alternator because it won't run with the negative terminal off but my grandfather says it might be voltage regulator. I have a parts truck (97-f-150) so I guess I'll start by swapping alternators because I never dealt with a voltage regulator before. This, drums, and fuse box swap, after a heater core change, plus a front end swap 😑... I appreciate the information though, that was great knowledge to be taught.

And thus the reason that I use charger maintainers on all the batteries I have when they are not in use. That includes six vehicles, three tractors, two atvs, two riding lawn mowers, a boat, a motorcycle, and a small ATV tow behind grader that has a sealed gel battery for raising and lowering it.
As well, I prefer serviceable batteries over sealed batteries. I try to top up all the batteries twice a year with deionized water. Unfortunately here in Canada it seems that manufacturers are moving towards sealed batteries over those which have caps on each cell and can be serviced.
My battery maintenance program works because this spring I had to replace a battery in a lawn mower. I checked my records and it had been nine years from when I installed that battery.

Check the thick wire that runs from the battery to the alternator. Sometimes the plastic rubs away so the the wire touches the metal and damages the alternator. Take the wire out and inspect all sides. It's really easy.

The most I have ever had to do was to replace battery and or alternator. Also some parts that were covered by the warranty such as wheel bearings, and tie rods. This was usually after the 4 th year if I kept the SUV long enough. I have had burned lights to replace. Then there was general mechanical servicing. I keep my cars for about 4 to 5 years max. I buy a service contract with each SUV that includes full service. I also buy tire insurance and full off road assistance. When I need something I give in the keys and get a loaner. There are only some normal wear parts I pay for such as breaks and most rubber type pieces.

I once owned a Porsche 914 and spent a LOT of time with a trusty Haynes manual chasing down electrical gremlins. Interesting thing about that car is that almost every electrical component had two separate wires (one being a ground wire) going to it. Even Porsche probably realized that particular would get so rusty that a common body / frame ground (like most cars) would be a bad idea. 🤣

One time I took my 2wd Toyota pickup up this mountain in the snow. It was a backwoods road. All gravel and such. Anyway so I was drifting back and fourth typical teenage shenanigans, just having a blast. When my dashboard lit up with the battery light. So I turned off the engine. Popped the hood. Those old trucks didn’t have power steering. The shaft going to the gearbox for the steering had gotten tangled up with the wires going to my alternator. Now mind you I was about 19 at the time. I didn’t unplug the battery. Some how the key was left turned over or something. But when I put it back together it blew a fuse for something major under the hood. I figured out which fuse it was. (Can’t remember now) but ended up finding a paper clip and jamming it in the fuse box and making it back into town.
    A couple lessons learned.
Unplug the battery when working on electrical components.
Cable management can save you time and problems down the road.
    And most importantly
2wd Toyota’s can make it further than a
4wd Chevy up a snowy mountain.

I own a 2010 Nissan Vanette and I was parked on a hill. I put it into drive and commenced to drive up the hill. I had a trailer hitched up and the van struggled to get going so much so that I pressed the HOLD button on the gear shifter thinking it would aid in me getting up the hill. All of a sudden this plume of smoke wafted up from the dash, I quickly pulled over and turned the van off. Looking down under the dash a wire was red hot, the plastic was burnt off of it. When it cooled I started the van and it wouldn't shift into gear, I had my toolbox and cut the burnt piece of wire, reattached another piece and joined it to the piece going into the HOLD actuator and the van moved into gear, I suspected it was the HOLD button overheated - never played with that button again. I sold the van a while later for $15000 and never told the new owner
